Thread: SO they changing what our profession IS

I'm beginning to get hacked off at the whole "Ranger is become a rogue/thief" thing. I'm getting to the point where I want to beat the devs severely over the head and shoulders for including the "Stealing" bit to help encourage that perception.

Rangers are becoming light recon/spec-forces. So we get the ability to stealth-so what? How is that conceptually different than the camo kits we use now? Are we rogues because we use camo kits to get past creatures and NPC's? So we lay traps-again, so what? Rangers of the hunting mindset AND the paramilitary mindset have been asking for that for a long time now; we have two lines of traps in our professions, even if they act like grenades. Are we now thieves because we can now put them on the ground like actual traps? Or is it the ability to detect such concealed things that makes us thieves and rogues? As if paramilitary rangers aren't trained to LOOK for this kind of thing. The ONLY thing in here that jumps up and screams "Thief" is the damned Steal ability, which 99% of the non-Rangers out there (and some of the current ones-and they know who they are) seem to fixate on-and often usually interpret it as "Oh, my uber-leet gear is going to get stolen!!! OMG!!!"

Get over it. Rangers are Rangers. Period. You want thieves and rogues, go play some other game, because you aren't finding them here.

I've never tried out the Ranger prof but I've read the recent changes to it.
I'm concerned about what it is called more than anything else.
Seems to be the prof title should be changed to Rogue or Thief.
Rangers to me are Wilderness Survival or Advanced Scouts, (which is another prof that doesn't really fit what they are in the game.) not Thieves or Assasins.
If they want to put these skills into the game then thay should create a new profession, shuch as a Rogue or Thief.

heres the problem you guys see stealing as picking pocketsbut its only going to be "quest items" and no one has specified what those items are. Its not like a ranger will be able to steal a lightsaber from a jedi. I believe its going to be more intel than anything else making it part of recon skills the ranger is suppose to have.......taking intell is considered stealing too....one punished by death in most instenances

I think the Dev's or whoever wrote the revamp document made slight mistake. They should not have called it stealing, but rather "Aquiring Secret Data". I think a lot of people would not get as worked up about that than calling it stealing.
Anyhow, what the future role of Ranger will be, none can really tell yet, because it's mostly up to the player to define the role(at least I think so). It seems to go into the recon/spy direction, but untill any of us get any hands-on experience with the new skills that isn't enirely sure. Maybe the new traps go great with hunting so maybe together with MScout Rangers can still be the ultimate Hunter. Thing is, it's all still up in the air. Well, that's my rant of the day.
