Hey everyone

I have just listened to the ranger interview and read the revamp notes and basically I fail to see what the purpose of being able to do what we are going to be able to do actually is...we get predator suits, that is the only thing, i think, i really liked . that being beside the point i'd like to get some opinions here, what do YOU think of the ranger changes? asset to groups? strong combat character?just lay it all out team be great to get a "feel" for what we are all thinking.

They're giving us the reconnaissance role that we were asking for for the last 2 years. Radar invisibility and ground traps. They're eliminating the uselessness of the Ranger camps and giving Rangers a series of combat mods so that they can stand up to NPC's and hopefully players as well. I think the coolest part is that Ranger isn't likely to become FOTM as much as bounty hunter did after the CU, we'll still be a niche role for people interested in helping base raids, but not looking to be a front line assault unit.

We'll need a new Ranger motto.... I'm thinking "First in, Last out."

I'm happy about it. We get to be more "Army Ranger" types. It's somthing I've been looking forward to for a long time.

And we still get to keep almost all existing Ranger abilities if we keep master scout.

I think it is a good change, except I still don't understand why they couldn't make two trees for those who do not want the recon/spy/assassin role, but to be the universes most vaunted hunter. It should be easy to have both professions is you do almost all the initial stuff in scout. Other professions do this so why we have to have only one outcome doesn't seem to make sense. But for me I like what I have read so far.

I like most the changes. It gets Ranger out of the creature only role and lets us go against NPCs/Players and Creatures. They also make Ranger a more valuable asset in a group, as someone said in a Base Raid for example or to set up an ambush in PvP. Plus we get to play with High Explosives and radar invisibility, a big plus in my oppinion .

Some of the Proposed changes, like Carbines 4 as a pre req and Tracking beeing dumped, are questionable, but that goes into another thread.

I don't like the fact that they are taking abilities out of ranger just to add these new ones. I like what skills I have now. I feel those skills should have been added on top of what ranger already has available to it. I use tracking as a ranger and I get paid to do it. In fact I felt they should made that skill more advanced where you had the ability to track down certain animals, people, and players since the idea was for you to be a tracker. I am not crazy about them taking this skill away at all. I also use forage alot. The rescue command should be fixed to work properly. I am not against the new changes, but I have a problem loosing skills I used to earn my living in this game since day one. I think it's a crappy thing to do. Rangers didn't have much to begin with and it cost us alot to go down this road so ya they could have just added these chanes to be placed on top of what we already had if you ask me. It's bad enough they drove the doctors out of the hospitols and cost us a good bit of our buisness income, but then I guess it wouldn't be SOE if they didn't totally screw us over.

all good valid points team.... i agree Koollayd about losing area track, i would have prefered to see it upgraded to be better, than have it taken from us. this Antarian ranger idea they are trying to change us too would make more sense to have the skill than take it, but possibly we are getting the same skill just in a differant form.

my personal bug bear has always been traps and is going to be again I think, what we have had up to now is NOT a trap. it is a grenade, but that is neither herte nor there. I am concerned that our new traps are going to have little to no point of having them, great they have gone from being grenades and are now actual traps, cool, love it, well done devs but biolinked? not to sure if this is gonna be worth anything. Still i am not complaining about it, i will give it the opportunity it deserves and at least give the new prof a very solid go before i make decisions on what I think of the prof.

like to hear from everyone about what you feel our purpose is going to be when the change comes, i'd hate to think we are going to be turned into just another form of BH, what are we up to by way of group combat, solo combat, resource collecters etc. help me to see the coming change to my favorite profession is a good thing.

Bio-linking the triggering device is just one option. You can also command detonate, use a timing device, or use a proximty trigger.

Ranger may just take a bit more forward thinking to play, we won't know til we all get a chance to test it out.

Ok - at first i hated the idea because I'm a long time smuggler. I've been playing D&D since most of you kiddies were in diapers, and the whole Ranger vs. Rogue thing is old hat... Rangers shouldn't be able to sneak in cities, Rogues shouldn't be able to do it out of 'em. It still seems kinda iffy to me that Rangers are getting all kinds of sneaking and stealing, which is way more underground than anything in the supposed "underworld" tree, and Smugglers are just getting "c-level appropriate" delivery missions, but thats besides the point.

Just dropped Msmuggler, grinding out Ranger. This looks like exactly the kind of stuff i wanted from smuggler in the first place. it would have been nice to get it without re-grinding my template, but then again, this is SoE.

Sneaking and Peeking was my job in Army for almost three years. Liberating op plans occasionally went with the job. Aquiring CEOIs (code book for layman) also went with the job. Capturing high value targets..Uh yep went with the job. Performing raids went with the job.

Lets see underworld...Rap star, Hollywood drug addict, prostitue crack **edit**, E Hollywood story of the week Has been child star.

See thats not Rangery so if Smugglers want that let them have it.

People keep bring up thievery, and sneaking and peekingas an excuse for what Rangers should not be able to do, fooled me. If the dev team implements this properly we all win we all have something different to contribute to the game.

Tell you what after the revamp hits whenever that is you start and play a smuggler and peddle your spice on the streets of Bestine.

Get yourself some "bling" and you can be a big time drug dealer in game.

Ranger in SWG is moving towards the Antarian Ranger\Sector Ranger model and away from the D&D version. Go do a google search for more information on the subject of Antarian Rangers.
