Thread: least valuable of our 4 skill lines.
After they fix /conceal I might change my mind over to Trapping.
I'd have to agree about dropping Wayfaring (not that I've reached the full level yet). I find the other three far more useful for what I normally do in game. My kits are so terrible that they don't last long on others and it's basically a poor rendition of masked scent. No complaints about having it, but ... trapping's more useful so far.
As much as I love the idea of Ranger...the actual execution so far is not that great. Basically, I could probably do without all of the lines in some sense.
Wayfaring = absolutely useless
Man...these forums could use some work too. I appologize on behalf of the forums for the double posting of 1/4 of my post. Everytime I try to post it, I get this error...

Anyone know how I can stop that and just post the message? Thanks.

Wayfaring = absolutely useless
I have been a Master Ranger for a while now and I have never even thought about making a camo kit. I agree 100% with the above post about it just being easier to use maskscent. I really wish that they just made our masckscent better and work on humans in the Ranger line.
Frontiering = mostly useless
For 99% of all situation, a plain old improved camp is all that I need. I even end up using a basic camp a lot of time. Mostly it is just to quick have docs heal and people get pets out. The large camps look cool, but are just not useful enough.
Tracking = OK
This is the best line of skills that we have. First off, we get to harvest more. The prob here is that it is not enough of bonus over scouts to be great. We should be harvesting a lot more at Master Ranger than at Master Scout. The tracking is also pretty cool, but not that useful as it doesn't show spawn points. There are way too many times that my group asks me to check areatrack and I only find a couple things and then we walk 200m and find what we were just looking for. That is just embarassing.
Trapping = totally useless
First off, the traps that we get in the Ranger line stink. Plus, we only get 2 traps...what is up with that? Second, at Master Ranger, I should not be having traps fail when I throw them (well, sometimes they can fail, but 95% of the time they should work).
So, you may say...Alric, why are you a ranger then...My reply to that would be what I said before, I really do like the idea of what a Ranger should/could be. I just hope that it gets there quickly. I have mentioned before on the Carbineer board (I know, I am a glutton for punishment) that the problem is that I only paid for 3 months and I am starting to wonder what is going to keep me here beyond that time. I am really running our of things to do other than sit and wait for them to fix carbineers so that we are no longer basically the laughing stock of combat professions. But I digress...we do need some better things in the Ranger lines. Thanks for listening...
I reckon I'll get to master ranger in about a week or so. I'll keep it at least until the new update takes effect, and see if I really need any of the extra bonuses master gives me. (That dathomirian camo kit seems like it will be pretty useful once they fix the problems with camoflague.) If not, I'll drop master ranger and the trapping branch and plug those points into pistoleer and CH.
As an aside, FIX RIFLES OMFG. I feel stupid hunting with a pistol.
Trapping
2 traps I use most often is glow wire and snare trap, both scout traps.
Have note used 2 in ranger in long time.
That's a no brainer, trapping. Trapping is so totally pointless to in ranger right now. The good traps that most all rangers use, if they use traps at all, are glow-wire, Phacnecine Dart, and Adhesive Mesh. All of those you get at Scout. The 2 (as opposed to the ten you get for scout) traps you get as ranger are pretty pointless. Especially if I want to blind one animal, the AE can sometimes agro others I didn't want on me.
In the future, and right now, I think tracking is great. Trapping has the potential to be an extremly useful line, especially if they do NPC traps.
My traps (sonic pulse and the flashbang one (?)) work consistantly on INDIVIDUAL CREATURES
The area effect seems broken, I actually like those two traps because they do 2 different state attacks from one trap
(yes though, they are buggy and glitchy but they work 60% of the time for me)
