This is ridiculous. Apparently the old system was messed up because someone armed with armour, buffs, tapes and whatever else could solo a Krayt. Now it's all cool that a solo unbuffed ranger can drop one!

You all know that I think the majority of things in the game should be at least possible (but not easily) to be done solo, if the gamer chooses to play that way, but Krayt's certainly ain't one of them. The only exception I can see are Jueveniles, I can believe that aclever hunter could drop a kiddy Krayt, that's within the realms of reason, but a full grown Krayt? These things are meant to be able to flatten small towns if they so wish. (Ironic that people put up player cities to camp the spawning grounds).

What's more, it was said this is a bug, yet a few days ago, the did a publish to up the CL of a Krayt, yet still they're solo'able. Who the hell is writing this game!?!

Here's my experience on Tat today with Krayts:

Started about 4k south of the Jawa traders and headed north. Came across about8 wild krayts.4 juvies,3 canyons, and 1 giant canyon. Killed them all using p-darts, knee shot, headshot, startle shot. Looted a pearl, tissues and armor core. Then headed to the graveyard. There were 2 juvies, 2 canyons, 1 giant canyon and 1 ancient all on top of each other. Another player was there, he saw them tightly grouped and decided to try something else. I got my traps hot keyed and went to work. Wasn't able to single pull at all but only pulled 2 or 3 at most. Using traps I was able to stop the extranious aggros and focus on one. I must have used 20 traps to kill all six krayts but I did it, even the ancient. The ancient took a while but the traps effect never wore off, so, with my action drained, I just fired a head shot, waited to regen and fired another eventually getting the kill. Now...

There is no way I should have been able to do this. I had never done it pre CU. If this stays this way ranger with definately be FOTM, something I don't want to see.

Looks like this is a bug across the board.

Once a critter has been stopped with traps, or specials they will not move again.

I noticed this tonight while hunting Ancient Bull Rancors. CL95 once I saw the +SNARE+ show up for a trap I could lay down in front of the Rancor and drop the rancor with no threat of bodily harm coming to me.

So its a bug that needs fixing.

Again I still believe traps should have a chance to hit any mob big or small.

They just should not cause the AI to cease to function in regards to movement.

Wonderful thing about this game we all have opinions.

You know... this trap thing doesn't have to be either/or (the trap works, the critter's dead OR the trap doesn't work, you're dead). How about the tougher the creature should be, the SHORTER the duration of the trap/root? Something really tough, like and ancient Kyrat should be maybe would only be stopped for a second or less and need several people working together to pin him down while the rest of the party is trying to actually kill it (and probably make it impossible to solo hunt them). This would make the really big stuff not impossible nor simple to take out.

BTW, aren't Kyrat bugged? If so, there's not much reason to get passionate about whether it's realistic or not, nor can we tell if Rangers are uber or useless yet by how easy it is to hunt them.

Also, it's only a game It's nice to have sensible rules but nothing violates the laws of physics because high tech hunters can kill an ancient critter.. How long does it take tosaw down an old growth red wood? High level things should have a good story behind them and bechallenging to kill and unforgiving of hunting mistakes. It should be fun doing it. The fun part is the critical part.

Traps shouldnt work on Krayts. They will fix it.

I believe as do some others Traps should have a chance to work on every MOB.

We are Rangers by the grace of God, the Master of the Wilderness.

If anyone should have a chance to hunt and affect a high levelMOB it should be Rangers.

Now it just so happens P-Darts are effective right now.

Carbineers and Riflemen have root and snare states.

Melee artist hae dizzy and knockdown states.

Our traps are our profession they should affect or have a chance to affect any MOB in the game.

NPCs are a special case.

I know Traps did not affect Kraytrs before, has anyone found the upper limit for traps yet.

I am going to try GDKs tonight and see how it goes. I was told they are CL150 and Gurks are CL80.

You were told right. I have a screenshot on my desktop right now where I'm fighting a CL-80 Gurk right next to two GDK's. Looks pretty funny.

Carbineers have snare, which is exactly the same thing as Phecnacine Darts, and Riflemen's snare is broken. If Ranger's get adhesive mesh to be a 30 second root like smuggler's concussion shot then I will agree that Ranger's will rock. Until then, I'm not buying it.

We shouldn't necessarily be able to trap a Krayt (or at least not without extremely long odds), but a weakness of traps before was that they stopped being useful above a certain creature level. If we're now able to keep using them against creatures of our own CL, that makes the Scout/Ranger skill points worthwhile.

That hasn't been my experience at all since the CU, mind you. My traps have no effect on anything even half my CL. But I've been using admesh, and maybe it's bugged. Tonight I'll whip out the P-darts and hope for the best!

LOL, I was wondering "what is up with this guy?" until I read his signature.

And then I was like "Oh."

Iam guessing he respeced to ranger. As long as there are people like him, there will always be a FotM. We can just hope it aint Ranger.

That people respec to Ranger isn't all bad. As has been stated above, perhaps that will help get some thoughtful attention to the Ranger profession for it's own revamp.

I dropped Master Ranger to get in on the grenade plan for accelerating my way through FS Xp. Now, I can't make it all the way back, but I am glad I can get most of the way without regrinding all of Master Ranger. Of course, what I miss most now is all the information we used to received on examining various critters.

I've been hunting off and on all day using phec darts and adhesive mesh - the results seem buggy overall, but good.

Against many creatures the phec darts seem to be as good as roots - reducing the critter to immobile - others need to be hit multiple times or rooted with specials. Adhesive mesh seems to be really short duration and overall just not as good as the phec darts.

Several times, but not always, the creature seemed unable to move even after the roots/snares wore off. I'm not sure if it was totally random or caused by some specific combo. Either way, it wasn't happening every time.
