Well you won't see a Master CH/Master Ranger player with 3 pets out unless they are killing something like rasps or something else that is pretty much just kibble for the lower lvl pets... if you are hunting serious game you will probably have areally nicepair of hunters out to spread damage taken and inflict the most damage you can.

This template can work. It's not for everyone though. And no, you don't need buffs to make it viable. My character with this template has never had doctor buffs, never used spice, and rarely even eats anything.

It is great when you learn what you can do.Nothing will teach you how to pull singles or deal with adds faster than necessity.

I've been running Master Ranger, 4-0-0-0 Rifleman and 4-3-1-4 Creature Handler for a while now. I've soloed Ancient Bull Rancors. Without buffs or armor. Recently, post-bleed nerf. Using a wild Prowling Gurreck and a decent T21. I did use food -- Vercupti pre-revamp, brandy after.

When the pet started to get beat up, I ran in and rooted the Rancor. The traps do land on them, but you may have to try two or three times. Then I'd pull the cat back and heal it up for another run.

So in one sense, I'd say Ranger/CH is a decent template. In a more reasonable one, though, I'd say it isn't, because Ranger/Anything isn't. This profesison is a loss and likely to remain so for months at least. A CH might want the Tracking line for the /ex info and finding babies -- as if anyone uses wild pets any more -- but that's it.

I tried this and couldn't make it work to my satisfaction. I mastered ranger and had 0-0-4-0 CH, novice medic, and put all the remainder of my points into carbine. I was hideously underpowered. The CL 21 lightly armored, 60% kinetic tank of a pet was great. I could take on any single big nasty creature and take it down (albeit very slowly). But here's the key: if the creatures you are fighting all attack your pet, you are fine. If more than 1 attack you though, a trip to the cloning center is immenent. I think having 2 pets may reduce the odds of you getting attacked some, but it's still going to happen pretty frequently, and since we have no traps that will get more than 1 attacking critter off of you, you're gonna die if you can't run away.

I think the bottom line is that if you want to be an effective hunter, combat weapon skills are the key. CH is great to supplement those weapon skills, but it's not a substitute for them. And ranger, well, it's fun to have a ranger title hanging above your head and pretend you're a good hunter, but bottom line is the less the better.

Im omw to become a Master CH and im loving it, going out on my own to far planets looking for my next pet, tis great , anyways, I read somewhere that Ranger skills are good for a CH due to stats they can see that any other profession can't?

Anyinfo would be great, thanks.

I am a master Ranger and Master CH. I really enjoy the combination. My remaining skill points are put into Marksman Pistol 4 and novice Medic.

No, I can not solo Krayts or Mutant Rancors, but I can take on large game with just me and my pets and do quite well for myself. I don't wear armor and almost never die, unless it's a situation where I probably would have died no matter what skill set I had. If you go this route and are testing your limits as to what you can handle... my best advice is "know when to run".

I have family who plays the game so we go out in small groups often, but I am also able to take decent missions solo or just go hunt alone and enjoy myself. Having to fight a bit smarter adds a lot more to the game than just having to push a button and see something fall in front of you. Traps are great for crowd control, and yes being able to see all the information on /examine is very nice.

If you select your pets and other weapons carefully, take care of them and fight smart it is a pretty viable option for PvE.

If you plan on mastering CH, you will not be needing to heal your pets in battle for the most part. They will be large enough to survive until the fight is over.

Unless you plan on hunting krayts or nightsisters, in which case you are better off using conceal shot and only having them guarding you in case you need to run.

Thanks alot for all your replies,

Im pretty interested in the whole Rifleman profession so I might try that along with the CH prof, but im a bit dubious about being so far away from my pets in battle, i.e healing.

But i'll give it a go and see what happenes.

I can take 3 of your strongest pets outs in 10 seconds. CH used to be the shiznit but not anymore. I personally miss the old CH and think it should be put back. If your CH/rifleman that is good.
Master Rifleman is by far the strongest profession I have ever done. The only professions I have not master in range are TKM and pikeman so if one of those are better I wouldnt know.

Well not everyone goes in for PvP. Master CH/Master Ranger would be a PvE template.... so unless you are a Piket or something you would never get a chance to touch my pets.

LOL, let the pets kill high lvl creatures for u? You might as well just sick your creatures and go have a beer and watch TV. It will take your creatures forever to kill a creature any other profession could kill in 3 seconds.

/shrug

My template is hardly one where I can "go have a beer" while my pets kill things. It is a template that is enjoyable for me... much more so than just hitting an attack button once and be done with the fight.

To each his own, I am glad you are happy with what you do in game as well.

Im not trying to be an @$$, I love CH I was a master. Im just stating that with one single patch they managed to destroy CH. It really upsets me because I actually felt like an outdoorsman with ranger/CH.

You are right they did change the profession greatly. It'smuch different now, but still fun for some of us.
