Title say's it all.

Im omw to become a Master CH and im loving it, going out on my own to far planets looking for my next pet, tis great , anyways, I read somewhere that Ranger skills are good for a CH due to stats they can see that any other profession can't?

Anyinfo would be great, thanks.

The consensus seems to be that you have no real offensive output if you master both, but I bet there is a way to dabble in both professions and an elite profession to get a good template.

I would have thought a CH that can have 3 pets out at the same time was a Offensive Profession?

Well a master CH has the ability to call 3 pets out at any one time, but I can see what your saying tho, My character will still be vunarable to attack but thats probably what I want in my Character, Im very biased towards Roleplay so I think if Ranger would be a good addition to my "Character", by that I mean, Handling creatures, being out in the wild, terrain and so forth.

Hope you can see what I'm getting at here.

I'm also going to be a Ranger/CH.

To make my attack even worse, all remaining skill points have gone to pistols.

I really dont care if I'm "weak" as an offensive force. I enjoy being these two professions and use my head to survive, not my brawn.

Don't be so worried about if you will be powerful and so on, just play the way you want and enjoy it.

I can still hold my own in the wild with a pet or two, just I will probably never survive rancors and kimoglas.

I used to be M Ranger/MCH/Rifleman 3/0/0/0. That used all my skill points. The killing power was fine but armored foes meant that I had to do all the damage. I did have a nice 600 damage, 12k Rancor, though (BE made, prepatch, 0.67 to hit as well ). I find that I work better as a Master Ranger/Master Rifleman/Marskman 4/0/0/4, though. But that is mostly because I solo. And a lot of it is due to the reduced harvest rates when grouped. As far as killing goes, it's about the same. MCH lets you get much higher missions, though. But you will need to get pet stims. Grouped, MCH is both amazing and crap. It makes it really easy to kill most stuff if you have an MCH in your group to provide tanking. But most people don't care about your pets. One of the main reasons I decided not to get CH again was because almost no one in a group cared about my pets. And it caused tons of fights when I let a player die because they were being stupid instead of using my injured pets to save them. Even after I told them to wait. And that was a quite common occurence on Dathomir. Now I don't even bother looking for groups (largely because of so many bad ones I ended up in).

Theoretically, yes.

About 4-5 months ago, yes.

With speeders everywhere and TKMs being able to deal about 10x as much damage as an MCH, no.

Well, if you consider being able to handle CL 20 critters with a CL 50 pet without too much effort, then yes, it is an offensive profession. If you want to compare it to a master of a combat profession, then no, it is a waste of skill points.

It is fun though, and I will be one until I quit the game...

As for your initial question, I cannot recommend being both a master Ranger and a Master Creature Handler. It leaves you too few skill points and no real benefit because neither has much offensive, or defensive, power.

The Tracking line is handy because it gives you both creature knowledge and the ability to area track. While it is not perfect, it can be useful at times. If you don't mind visiting a site such as swgcreatures you may not need the creature knowledge, but I like having it in-game myself.

The other lines are all user preference, but their problems are well documented elsewhere on this board.

If you are a careful, smart hunter, you can make this work with the rest of your points in a ranged profession (I picked rifle, it just seemed more in character). The key is learning to single pull, so neither you nor your pets are overwhelmed.

You need a bleed shot and some distance to single pull, so I'd recommend carbine or rifle. You hit the critter with a bleed shot then peace and pull back. When the bleed ticks, the critter will come after you alone. As long as your pets "take" him far enough from his buds to avoid (or greatly delay) adds, you'll all be safe as houses. Also, avoid the pets that run all over when they get hurt a bit, as this WILL aggro the nearbys and wreck your strategy.

Enjoy!

Just make a macro to spam "/tellpet attack" and hotkey it. Your pet won't move very much at all. Although the enemies might run away with your pet still standing there.

Actually, you will generally suck and die a lot.

Ok, most pets inflict kinetic damage, which a large number of creatures resist - hence the heat, acid, sonic, stun, blast, electricity, weapons being most popular. You have 3 pets out, and you aggro a mob of 6, 3 of which come after you. Whatcha gonna do besides die gracefully?? Or what is gonna stop the mob from ignoring the pets and aggroing you - which happens a lot with a Ranger sign on, trust me.

CH is not a bad profession. Best have some punch, either melee or ranged, when the pets let a few leakers through. Or get incapped.

Or just buff and get fully armored. How do you think all the BHs manage to survive?
