oh...Wyoming?

Yeah, it's a state out west; shaped like a rectangle; sandwiched between Utah, Idaho, Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska (/shudder), and Colorado. That ring a bell?

Ohhhh yeah!! Does Wyoming have a sports team? I relate most areas to that lol.

I guess someone has to plug Chicago. Although I do agree about upstate NY being great in the fall. Lived in Syracuse for 23 years and have been in Chicago for the last 8. Chicago is graet for city life. I mean I love NYC but I think I prefer Chicago over it.

Bodega (Dagobah?) Bay, CA -- Trivia: Bodega Bay was the inspiration for Lucas' planet Dagobah, as a place that is empty and perfect for meditation... of course this was after all of Alfred Hitchcock's birds left the town.

As for this list, I'd also recommend adding the Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in/near Wyoming (right near each other, giving you easy access to two really cool places) and Arches National Park in Utah (as long as you don't mind a mostly desert area).

I remember one fateful night sleeping out in the meadow with my best friend when we were both around 12. The night started off with something killing a baby rabbit nearby (worst... sound...ever), then there was a follow up brawl between a pack of racoons over our head (second worst sound ever). Finally it was enough for us and we retreated to the house.

A few hours later her brother and one of his high school buds got home and decided to scare us by scratching on the side of the tent and making snorting noises. Suddenly something huge started crashing through the bushes towards them snorting loudly! (Bucks apparently make snorting noises to challenge each other) They ran screaming for the house. Not that I blame them, but we gave them crap for it since they did still think we were in the tent at the time.

We've never tried hiking. Like you said though, with the kids it's pretty tough. No RV'ing or satellite for us though.

hehe sorry oppma, looks like the messenger pigeon never got to you

Hiking is fun, we have some great mountains districts here in the UK.

Curse the days in my youth when my dad (very big lover of mountain climbing) used dragged me up many a mountain in the lake district near where i live. Also trecking up Hellvelin and Lower Man in 4 foot of snow and horizontal rain was the most scary, exhilirating and fun experiences i have everhad

Had a similar experience traversing the anakiegac ridge or however you spell it

Very nice! im actually jealous...

as you know, i just got off a week long vacation driving up the coastal highway on california... someday i will live in san diego, its the perfect city.

when i was a little kid, my dad would take me hiking in the sierra nevada mountains, god what an amazing time. no tent, just a hammock and a poncho. No car, but a 4 mile hike with a pack that was huge!

that was my favorite style of camping. we did the parking lot camping too, but i never had as much fun there.

Lately, the last time i went camping was on the outer banks in NC, near cape hatteras, and there was a huge storm there that blew my wifes and my tent over, scared the dogs, and nearly covered my car in sand...

i cracked a joke about tatooine, and i got the evil "you're being a geek again stare"

welcome back Opp!

I recommend Wyoming..all of it! It ranges from 'the middle of nowhere' to 'the most beautiful scenery in the world.' In fact, most of Wyoming is the latter.

I'll actually second that. If you're looking for city-life, I recommend Seattle, Boston and even *grimmace* New York. If you're looking for wilderness, upstate NY is amazing in the fall, and Wyoming is gorgeous year-round.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Nice

I really do love England as there is no other place like it. Its so small but has everything.

Yeah Texas is a no-no for me. I hate guns (weird because i play paintball) and texas being texas means i wont be going anywhere near it, even though i have a lot of friends there.
