Thread: Need advice on Pistols vs Rifles again.

Anyway, with that in mind, and what some of you have said about the short range of pistols, then I offer a suggestion. You can have the best of both worlds by taking advantage of one of the more vague and silly notions of the combat revamp (no, it isn't an upgrade). Even if you're a pistolieer, you can use just about any other weapon. So say you're master pistolieer, and thus have advanced stopping shot, you can grab a rifle and root something at upto 65m away!
What's so vague and silly about it? It would seem that one who could shoot a pistol could figure out how to pick up a rifle and pull the trigger on that as well. That seems to make sense.
I also see it as balanced.. Sure, you can increase your range with a rifle, but if you have no actual rifle skills (say, master ranger, master pistoleer), your speed with that rifle equipped is only 25... your accuracy is only 105. So, you'll have range but you'll miss a lot and be very slow.
A pistoleer, or any weapon profession, would always want to weild weapons from that profession for maximum benefit.

I don't like it because I think it has homogenised the professions, you can perform any special with any weapon (within ranged or melee), so it leads to you to the question "why discriminate professions at all?", you might as well have one ranged profession and one melee profession that has all the corresponding specials, that's my opinion. I am however taking advantage about it.

That isn't necessarily so, the template I'm testing today is a case in point. I have master pistols and just 4400 carbines, so you'd think I'd be more effective with pistols, but I'm not! I actually have a greater ranged speed and accuracy with the carbines than the pistols.

Well, that's taken a bit out of context.
You left out the part where I said "..if you have no actual rifle skills.."
You just stated that the template in your example has master pistoleer and 4400 carbines. That 4400 line gives you nearly all the carbine speed/accuracy mods from the carbineer profession. Naturally, you'd have more speed/accuracy mods with carbines than pistols.
Carbineer has more speed/accuracy mods than pistoleer. Rifleman has more speed/accuracy mods than both pistoleer or carbineer.
In my original example, a master pistoleer with master ranger (like the orignal poster's template, with no SP spent in rifleman) could still wield a rifle for the extra range... however, his speed would be 25 and accuracy 105 with that rifle equipped.
In your example, you're both a pistoleer and carbineer.. You can use both pistols and carbines very effectively.
However, if you were to wield a rifle your speed would still be 25 with it - but because you stacked pistols with carbineer, you increased your general ranged accuracy to +155. In that case, it's still best to stick to your pistols and carbines (the profession you've spent SP in) to see maximum benefit.
Pre CD, I always been a pistols but after unlocking Jedi and having to fix my template I went MRM... While I could easily kill anything in PvE, much easier than as a MP and junk, I didn't enjoy it. So I went back to pistols... I always been a pistols kinda gal!

You gotta stick with what you enjoy.

Yeh, I think I will stay with Pistols too. I will just have to be careful and very smart about the lairs I solo.
