Ever think that the Devs would just like us to go away? As we don't make up the majority of players, the weight we have to throw around isn't much. Quit playing ranger and stop gathering resources? I think there would be a quick change and suddenly scout skills could harvest more. This recent camo vs radar can't be done but yet a rifleman with a t21 can thing kinda has me thinking.
Ranger was a profession added in the begining to allow for choices and to them seemed like a cool idea at the time. Since then, it would seem that they have changed their minds and HEARTS. Changes made to our profession have left us a broken lot that no many people play. That being said, changes are made onw with little consideration for us in mind. There are harvesting bots, anyone can pick up novice scout, the freaking radar now can track with names so who needs a tracker, buffs are a timer that eliminates the need for camps and ensures NO ONE wants to sit around in one as 10k would be going to waste, and let us not forget the two things that people love to say makes unique - traps and camo. Traps work on animals sure but they prove to be mere distractions and wastes of actions when you compare them to other profession's abilities against the real big hunts. Camo? Why would you need camo? A buff means you could either take them on or in the new CU - rifleman have what we have asked for since day 1.
I quit the game last year because of lack of content (after literally trying everything and not wanting to be a chair zombie with a glowing damage dealer) and because I got tired of seeing people solo krayts. I came back last month after the CU was announced and some of it has me a happy camper. But I do believe that I too may drop ranger. I stubbornly fought for every point to earn master and I didnt macro camping despite the fact that a ranger camps by himself most of the time now. I am proud of our lot but perhaps we should recognize that it has gone the way of the VCR repairman. If you actually believe that we will get an update in the coming year - you may well be on spice.
Jedis saw love because thats what the masses wanted, masses wanted a combat revision - they got them. Combat professions. Had we been considered a combat profession then I would believe we would see an update in the coming year. This update hit a bunch of professions and that means a bunch of professions will need fixes, alterations and such. Resources will be allocated to the masses again and we the few and proud will be forced to sit back and watch. Quit and teach them a lesson? Be serious - if TKMs or Docs were leaving in mass - you bet your house deed that there would be a patch in weeks. If we quit, I doubt there would be so much as a half hearted post. Do the devs hate us? No but I am pretty sure their lives would be easier if we left (or simply switched professions as many point out) and theseare not a forgotten factors in their thoughts and plans.
Guys and girls, I have seen the ideas come out of our lot. Wonderful stuff and in some cases easy additions. Has anyone from SOE so much as commented on them outside of a "in the future" or "we will consider"? Think about the last updates - you can actually follow thier paper trails. Think about how long SWG has been out and how many updates they have released.
So what am I saying? I am saying that I will continue to play. I love the community here and in many ways the system. But my ranger threads may be hung up on the wall in my trophy room until SOE has a change of HEART about our beloved profession. I'm open to have my mind changed but the convincing would have to come from ACTION from SOE and not words and promises. I got a box of those lying around my Tatt house someplace - free to anyone who isn't jaded.

I just thought of a cool idea. If, after the CU, we get left behind and the general consensus of the SWG communities is that we are STILL not a combat proff, then I will refuse to hunt or track for anyone. Let them collect their own resources and find their own trial creatures. I'll boycott the crap out of my job. I'll run around with my Master Ranger tag and tell anyone who asks me to track or gather for them, "No, I'm not a combat proff, I don't do that anymore."
There are other ways of making money. Like selling myself to the Singing Mountain Clan for a month or two to help replenish the population.
Who's with me?

i love that idea........but i'd rather protest just by dropping ranger. i like your idea a lot but
1. it requires to keep masterRanger and be gimped at 1000health
2. i wouldn't be able to have fun like the rest of the people out there.
3. i play on a laptop, and have to turn all the graphics down, so sightseeing is not in it for me
I understand sick one, but I can't bring myself to drop Ranger. I'll play it out of spite and spam a picket line in the starport if I have to. While I'm not areatracking for Jedi or harvesting for any crafters, I'll go on quests and work all the content I can. I love playing this game and will undoubtedly continue to do so, but on MY terms

Hate to say it, but I think you're right. We definitely need something along the lines of the boon Image Designers got. I've already been forced to sacrifice my template on live to get a character that had semi-decent combat skills. Master Ranger/Master CH is just too gimped to do anything beyond crappy "terminal missions." I've dropped about half of Ranger so far... in business terms, it just isn't worth the ROI to keep certs for camo kits that break more often than Maskscent and make cool camps.

And am I crazy, or does Bounty Hunter actually require fewer skill points?

Ya know... I'm already retired. Hunt? Nah, sorry mate, I'm not a combat class, I don't do that anymore. (I reckon that's got to be our new motto.
I'm concentrating my main Live char on finishing the last bits of Master Rifles, my other characters will get pushed through to novice in one of the elite combat profs at least.
I don't need to hunt to make a living. I've got my 'ship and can cover the months rent and my brandy addiction in a couple of hours flying. I hunt for fun, but am thru doing the hard slog for hides'n'meat for folks.
Track? You've got to be joking mate, I could get jumped by some thugs, pirates, or some wild wild kreetles. You're a frelling jebay, go magic something up yerself.
I KNOW the CU is 'only' in test, and that things might change, but I can't really see them changing for the better for US for a shedload of time. Meanwhile, I'm going to go have some FUN again and /rude to all this.

Under the new system you can master bh, another full marksman elite, and two trees from another markman elite.

Yeah, currently Master Bounty hunter costs 169 skill points, in live. In the combat revamp it will cost 92. Interestingly enough, that's what a master elite combat costs now in live, in the revamp master combat elites go up to 106.

Umm, MBH in the CU is:
15+14 (marksman ranged support 4) + 15 + 14 (scout exploration 4) + 6 + 4*14 + 1 (BH tree) = 121
So it's still more expensive than the normal combat professions. The main difference is that we can pick it up for only 92 extra points as we share a prereq. The same is true for Squad Leaders.

Yes i have started a thread in the CU forum...it seems that alot of people consider ranger a "non-combat" profession..
I challenged someone to complete the trapping tree without entering combat, and that post was deleted!!!!!
Thanks to everyone who has posted in my thread, show these monkeys that Ranger is indeed a combat-class,
Us, the ranger community, has been so calm, and we havnt resorted to the whining and B!tching, as other profs have to get change....but this is to much, raise up my ranger brothers, sitting pretty and being nice is obviously not getting us anywhere, its time to flex our muscles, and tell the devs what we want, what we NEED!!!!!
