Thread: An Alternative to Universal Camo: A Ranger's Suggestion

I think what's key is that the Droid or BodyGuard cannot be a viable Offensive tool but solely a Defensive tool. The Droid / BodyGuard isn't intended to win the fight... just provide a window for escape.
I'm not sure that it necessarily would and here's why. First, players can already have pets in the form of Faction Troopers and Droids. They are less versatile than Pets because they aren't really trainable beyond basic commands. You can only call one, and (with the exception of droids) they are temporary. Once they die... they're dead. Droids also require Batteries and repair kits making them more costly than pets. Finally, they can only really call one at a time.
Isn't this exactly the same complaint we're making about camo kits but dressed up in fancy writing. Our kits arn't as good in the hands of artisans and these "pets" arn't as good as CH pets can be. Both still dilute a professions usefulness. This solution simply passes our problems to CH imo.

My point is that I'm looking to build off of a currently existing game mechanic. The pets and droids were implemented in a manner that isn't the same as CH. CH are intended to use pets as a type of weapon.

This proposal is designed to have a type of Pet that acts more as a tank which is only intended to provide the player with a window of escape. Again the NPC pets are limited in functionality and use, the Droid pets aren't capable of dealing serious damage and are meant just to let the non-combatant get away.

Again, I'm only trying to apply something directly to an existing mechanic in the game. Tank droids and Faction pets existed before the CU so I figured getting the mechanic to work better was a great solution that benefits both the DEs and the non-combatants.

What harvesting changes? The only harvesting change we got was replacing group penalty with group bonus, and that's still here.

Then, as you know, because I told you in confidence before it happened, the CL/health issue for Ranger was slated to go in right from early doors.

AH! Ok, I understand now, its a non-GCW faction chew toy. Literally a meatshield. Yup, I can see where you're going with that and I like it.

Currently there's nothing stopping an arty getting a decent CL droid, is there? They've just got to get their head round the fact that they are NOT going to win the fight if they try standng their ground. Let the droid / pet take the mauling and get out of the way themselves.

Only problem I can see with that is that whatever aggroes on my pets seems to come looking for me once it's finished snacking on them

Would you envisionthese being bought with credits or faction points? Just am thinking, if you were going to an area that was Tusken filled or you had really bad Val faction, having a pet that was oppositely aligned to them would be useful.

No Dave, the first changes were that anyone in a group got 20% increase. We got that changed to a ranger gives 30% and 40% for master rangers. The original design changed after it hit TC and data was presented.

Just so you know, I pointed out the Core Systems thread to the CH community. While it might not hurt their profession, I feel they should at least know that it's there (and it never hurts to have the pet masters commenting on a system involving pets). You might also wish to link the thread in the various non combat profession boards to get their opinion on the matter.

I still believe the best thing an artisan can do is group with a CL80 toon.

When I take my MA\MAS out to check harvestors I group him with my Ranger.

That does not stop getting killed from time to time.

But I don't get one shot while tending Harvestors or conducting surveys.

I also don't get off my swoop unless necessary just so I can beat a fast retreat.

Short of bringing back the Uber 3 hour buff. No amount of camo will keep a CL1 toon from eating dirt once in a while.

Grouping and getting the damage mitigation is the trick to survival.

If I can group with a CL80 survey across 7000 meters of Dantoonie and then go back without being killed without having another person nearby for support.

Tell me why its so hard for an Artisan to do the same.

Again I grouped my CL1 ArmorSmith with my CL80 Ranger. My Ranger stayed on Tat while my AS was on dantoonie surveying for resources. The furthest I went was 7600 meters from the Mining Outpost.

Along the way I was chased by Hurrtons, Mokks, Janta, and Voritors. I was not cam'ied up.

I was able to survey by using some smarts and not driving fast from point to point flat out.

Now since Dantoonie works for me guess its time to try Dathomir again to prove the "I can't leave my house" crowd wrong.

From the few posts I've seen on the Core Systems and a heads up thread on the CH boards, I don't think the CH community is gonna like this one bit. Frankly I can't blame them, seems any option besides just dropping the camo idea is stepping on some other prof's toes and nerfing them. I'm going to bed, I've had enough of this mess for now.

And apologies to anyone who thinks I'm flaming/ lashing out or whatever. I'm just too frustrated to think clearly and hurting others is not my intent. I miss the days when no one knew me. lol

Just give crafters a CL..

Anyone trying to tell me that a Weaponsmith knows how to make a gun, but cant shoot one.. Or and armoursmith who can make complete suits of assault armour, cant wear any.. Is just talking dumb.

Perhaps I dont see SOE's vision of the game, but to me, taking away a crafters ability to use his own equipment just sounds daft. Give these folks a chance.

Give crafters 1/2 the normal level.. Make it so they have a chance of clearing a space to drop their harvesters. Dont make them have to hire people who will get bored stupid watching them as they survey.

interesting idea....but have you ever tried to have something follow you while on a bike? they get lost really fast and i can't see the monkeys doing the programming for this game managing to fix that anytime soon...especially since they've "fixed" warping what 6 times now lol

i personally welcome any method of protecting crafters and getting some of my money back from them especially since my own crafter uses up all my supplies of meat and hides
