1) Terrain neg does not affect running speed on flat lvl surfaces, it does make you run at almost the same speed as normal up and down slopes.

2) Ranger is currently broken. Compare it to other elite classes and what do you get? It has alot more bugs and is not nearly as affective in most cirrcumstances as other elite classes (BE excluded cuz that is really bugged).

a) Traps only work against non humaniod. Traps don't work against ch pets. Ranger traps are only marginally more affective than the lower ones, and increase in trapping skills does not improve theeffectivness of traps noticebly.

3) Has this stopped me from being a ranger, no but it will most likely stop me from becoming a master ranger when becoming a master pistoleer is so much more affective than master ranger (i was wanting to go master ch master ranger, minor pistol)

I hit spacebar and it doubled posted b4 i could finish my rant.

b) Maskscent is broken. My lvl 70 camo is almost always broken by even the lowest non aggros

c) High lvl camps are not working properly, the healing is less than it should, and they rarely keep aggros out.

d) Advanced creature harvestin is not where it should be. We should be harvesting ALOT more compared to a novice scout or a master ranger vs master scout. And we should be able to harvest multipleresources. 1 is plain stupid. I hunt and i clean deers, and guess what? I can harvest the meat. And the hide. And the bone.

Someone said ranger is the most broken profession besides maybe bioengineer.

They were wrong.

Merchant is by FAR the most broken profession.

Sorry.

"Regarding Rescue being useful when a doctor is being attacked, Boba mentioned:

- Scout applies rescue
- Mob gets on Scout
- Scout Roots mob
- Scout backs out of attack range
- Group kills mob.

How is that better than this?
-Scout roots mob
-Doctor backs out of attack range
-Group kills mob"

Darnit, I was almost convinced for a second there that rescue might actually have a good use. You had to go and ruin it for me didn't you?

__________________________________________________

I'm not a ranger and only have exploration1 so I really have no clue what I'm talking about ( ), but if rescue lets the mob turn to the ranger immediately then it can be a real life saver.

Mobs have a specific range for their attacks even if they melee and when someone is near death snare and back off might not be enough to save the poor guy.

In case my statement is total bulls--t simply forget that I wrote it

Nope, you are spot on. Rescue is designed as a quick save someone's ass skill.Tossing an Adhesive trap takes a lot longer than pressing a Rescue hotkey. You basically redirect all damage to yourself, and since your friend is now safe, now would be a good time to apply that trap

Well, I have been agonizing over this as well. I guess the real question to ask is 'what more does ranger offer you over master scout'? I am going master TKA + something else, and had been considering ranger.

The wayfaring line seems to really be of use for those who wish to remain hidden at a distance and crawl. So if say you are a trandoshan TKA / ranger, this doesnt really offer that much as you are going to melee it.

The traps are also strange. One thing you notice is higher level traps require stuff like metal and polymer, and you cant harvest this. Sure you can go to town and buy a load, or you can pick up artisan, but it is really annoying to me personally to not be self reliant for the construction of your classes core abilities. Yes trapping is more effective with the hide and bone traps from the bonus. Again traps seem to be geared towards the marksman, with mind pool traps being common, and rooting traps there to let you kite stuff. The debuffs do help, but I am unsure whether abilities like blind and stun stack. Traps are a natural if you are an artisan as each trap crafted ups your crafting xp. I do have problems with some traps, such as the small stack sizes mean this is a constant inventory management endeavor, but it is nice being able to toss a trap while wielding a weapon. If you could lob a trap at a nest, well, then I would be really keen on it as it would give you a pulling tool for pure melee. For a TKA it is nice having blind/stun on a trap as the HAM costs with vibros is pretty excessive for generating those effects by TKA specials.

Camps like traps at high levels require stuff you cant harvest. The entire idea of camps yielding xp just based on time and healing is strange. I wish foraging would generate survival experience, as there would be something you could actively do to up this other than wait around for time. The top level scout camp is the last hide and bone camp you can do...ranger camp needs metal. WHo knows what the upper level ones require.

Harvesting and creature knowledge is fun for me. It is nice having an income generating activity of harvesting, and it is good having combat bonuses on critters, and knowing what they will do to you. This seems to be the only real line of interest to me in ranger for my Trandoshan.

So my analysis at this point is that ranger is more of a support class. It will really compliment artisan or say Creature Handler well, or even work nicely in a rifleman mix, but for melee ranger is more gravy and not essential. Master scout or just the harvesting + exploring lines are probably all you really need from here.

It seems that I have, yet again, chosen the broken class. In EverQuest I started a Paladin (many, many moons ago) and it took Verant/SOE over 2 years to fix that class (to the point that it was a fun and useful class). So how long will it be before Ranger's are actually a solid class with abilities that they SHOULD HAVE HAD from the beginning?

If you are going to make a class called "Ranger" he should work like one and not just a glorified bone and hide expert with a cute camp and useless PVP skills.

If higher end creatures spawned with varied pools, special abilities, and weaknesses, the creature examining would be very useful.

If traps are useable on petsI think it would make quite a difference in PvP. Otherwise if mask scent or something like it kept rangers off radar that would just be awesome.

As it stands from what I hear rangers are useless in PvP, which really hurts the class.

IF you are read the description for the creature to-hit bonus it is only when using the basic attack, none of the specials. So unless you have no understanding on how combat works in SWG this has no benifit for you except at very rare times when the mob is so weak you don't care how long it takes to kill.

The fact that this is posted in the Ranger board, and that the title is "Concerns about becoming a Ranger" I personally don't want to hear anything about the usefulness of Adhesive Mesh, Bone Spur, Noise Maker or any of those traps. If you really want to talk about those, go create a thread in the Scout board under a title called "Concerns about becoming a Scout". Please, I'm tired of hearing about how effective those traps are in this board.

Someone on the first page wrote something about how, in real life, a hunter who disguises himself, an animal would probably have a better chance of spotting him, than most humans would. Take the /maskscent ability, and it doesn't really apply. This particular ability is for PvE use only. Crossing this into PvP issues brings up other issues.

We rangers are supposedly the best creature hunters in the game. One of the most powerful professions right now (I believe) is the creature handler. In PvP, as far as I know, we can't really bring any of our advantages to their pets. To me, it would seem natural, that our PvP benefits, would be to help combat CH pets. As OdinLoki stated, "A creature handler should fear a ranger of the same level...the creature handler should think twice before busting out his prize pet."

To answer the original premise of this thread, of whether or not to actually become a ranger. The only thing I can say is http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=ranger&message.id=2171In it, our Ranger Correspondent Mineras promises good stuff in the future. How long is the future? and what the good stuff is? he doesn't say.
