The HTFB's heal at about 144 points an hour and they do have the Weapons crafting station which is nice. Often I'll drop onto a planet with no camo and the first order of business is to whip up a few kits. With the HTFB at hand you can experiment on the kits and often double the number of charges over what you could craft with just the Weapon crafting tool.
Beyond that, I just like them and I suppose where or not you need them depends on your definition of need (or general utitlity). I don't really need twenty-seven rifles. I don't really need a BARC and a Naboo Speeder and an AB-1 all with custom paint jobs. I don't really need one set of clothes when I'm flying mission and another for hunting on Endor. I don't really need a Varactyle, a Bantha, and Dewback (Bach, Brahms, and Berlioz). But as a part of playing the game, dropping a camp everytimeI bed down (log off) for the night or putting them up when I stop to talk to friends or help out a new player, all of these I really do need to make the game interesting and not just another "todo" list item at the end of the day.
Good hunting and clear skies.
Please, I know what camps can be USED FOR... Read the original question: what does a camp DO,
My answer is the only right one. All the additional it can be used for are initiated by ranger (crafting, resting, roleplaying)...
The camp does not repel critters (as said above).
I'm just in a bit of an exact mood, the last days...

What does it do you ask? It protects a ranger and hunting group from the elements. Granted it's not a fancy schmancy hotel with a nice bed but it's better than nothing. It get's cold in the wild. The tents provide warmth when the environment is most unforgiving. Most importantly it's a ranger's home that he/she can take anywhere. It allows us to stay away from the stress of the cities and enjoy all the peace and tranquility of nature. A camp is part of our nomadic lifestyle, it is a tool, it is a weapon, and often times it's one of the only things we can rely on.
They act as a junior varsity med center for docs and a JV cantina for entertainers.
And as mentioned before, the larger camps tend to get "Oh wow, look at that" type reactions.
They do if you "adjust" your video settings lol.

That's all I use them for, since you can't find a doctor anywhere....
The HTFB is nice if you need to make a bunh of camo, and want o get the most kits for the resources used. (the crafting stations are a tad handy, but not as much for anyone else since CMs dont need to be medical crafting anymore)
They arent 100% redundant, if you like many Rangers choose to live away from civilization, then the HTFB will be your home away from home (but thats really a RP choice)
Frankly these days combat moves too fast, and few want to spend any time at all sittin round the campfire. They want to be moving to the next spawn.
Camps used to be great, back when there weren't vehicles.
Now they aren't all that necassary, but I guess they still have their uses. Most people head back to town after doing Destroy missions. Aren't a lot of people who just go out hunting anymore, at least from what I've seen. Basic hunting is where camps can shine. Otherwise, pull out your Speeder and head to town.
Player cities also have made it easier to get back to civilization.
I personally love using camps for what they are: camping. ![]()
It is a great tool allowing you to take a couple of minutes off the grind and relax, chat and generally have a laugh. Works a treat to break the monotony of grind ![]()
