I like being a creature handler, and it was my original intention of being a master creature handler. After spending a month and a half on the CH boards and getting to know the profession intimately, I decided that although I like it, I didn't want to master in it (currently 1/1/1/2 in CH). I found that I liked the Ranger abilities and, since I was doing it already, I'm on track to becoming a Master Ranger (2/2/3/4 at the moment... I love traps and use them all the time).

I'm a pistoleer as well, originally 0/2/0/0, but I decided to go up the first track instead and I am currently 1/1/0/0.

I have a little bit of artisan (2/0/0/3) and a little bit of medic (1/1/0/1), but I'm going to give some of those skills up in order to become a master ranger and a gunslinger (how can I pass up such a cool title?).

Ranger 0/1/3/1, Pistoleer 0/0/2/1, CH 1/1/1/1, novice medic

I find that this makes me pretty self-sufficent, as I only need to return to a city when I want a mission or wounds healed. I can set up camp and regen while I heal my pet, and I can do pretty decent (and fast) damage with my pistol (Scout Blaster 76-123 1.3) I've got a full-grown kima that I'm using until my GSP is full-grown, and he helps out a lot. I don't intend to go any higher in any of the trees except to master ranger. Then if I have points left, I'll probably put them into the 3rd branch of pistoleer for stopping shot.

Currently I have some beginning ranger. I have all of the starting professions to some degree and pistaleer. Pistal is my main weapon of choice right now. My rifle is to slow for me to be effective against anything other then blue's.

Using the character building I laid out this path though.

Master Scout and Master Ranger are primary profession.

Marksman with pistal, rifle and ranged support all four.

Novice medic so I can use stimpack B and wound packs.

Pistaleer, and the marksmanship skill to level 3.

Rifleman, with the concealment skill up to level 4.

The above used up every skill point. worked out pretty well. I'm sure I'll change thins at some point. I would like to try smuggler at some time. Maybe some day do one hand melee.

I am a Master Ranger / Novice Medic / Bounty Hunter focusing on LLC, this has allowed me to become one of the most feared members of my PA. I am mean with the LLC and capable of really laying down some damage to mobs, and while my healing is not prime, it is better than nothing in a pinch and has saved me more than a few times already.

Really, its not the profession you pear youself with, it is how you use the skills you got to effectiveness. There are a lot of Scout / Creature Handlers that can do more to hold their own in the Galactic Scouts.

I currently have ...

Ranger (3-2-4-4)

Bounty Hunter(0-4-0-1)

Medic(0-0-0-0)

... and I am out of skill points!

My BH Carbine skills have made me fairly effective in PvP and hunting large animals. However,I am considering giving up all of my BH, Marksman Rifle, and Marksman Pistol Skills and using the points in Carbineer. I'd like to be able to attack multiple creatures or players at once with the area attacks. The only thing keeping me from switching already is that, according to the Carbineer board, most of their special attacks do not seem to be working as advertised.

Master ranger

Pistoleer..0-0-4-1

medic..1-0-0-1

I can solo with the best of them.

I get owned by the BH's in PvP(alot of others as well, but shhh, I'm not admitting that)

Kinda disappointed with the whole Pistoleer thing.

The pistoleer's unique pistol the DX2, is terrible. Also looks stupid.

Republican Blaster which alot of us are certified to use doesn't work.

They have nerfed\toned down the Pistoleer to the point of redundancy.

Seriously thinking of changing paths.

I'm a Master Ranger/ Swordsman 2/2/1/1. Hunting lairs of aggressive animals, i.e. cats, wrixs, slice hounds is my speciality. First I track to them using /areatrack, then sneak in the middle of the pack thanks to maskscent or conceal, then I tag a single animal, usually the toughest. Immediately 3 to 5 other lair mates surround me, which is what I want. I then break out my AoE swordman attacks and do damage to up to 6 creatures for the price of one. Within a few swings most are dead, I clean up any heavily wounded singles that are left and then /harvest off all the dead animals at my feet. I search the lair for any goodies and then move on down the road to the next. Its a nice system and I never worry about getting jumped or warped on by a creature since I'm a melee and can take the hits, unlike many riflemen and CHs.

"I then break out my AoE swordman attacks and do damage to up to 6 creatures for the price of one."

- That is definitely the best thing about melee. I love the spin attacks.

- Personally, I really enjoy the delay after performing the move...Where suddenly the critters around you simply fall over dead all at once.

well I am currently running up the pistoleer tree while ranger but when it comes down to it the Teras Kasi are the best at the PvE. If I had not spent all my time on Pistoleer i would have gone Ranger/CH/TerasKasi

I'm not a Ranger yet, but I'm enjoying being a scout with both a melee and ranged profession. That way I can blast away things at a distance, and switch to melee on the odd chance that they do close with me. I find it a fun combo. Due to how I started out the character, I'm a 1-hand brawler/pistol wielder (because they both go after the Health bar). Swordsman/rifeleman probably makes more sense for a ranger, as they go after Mind, which is a target for many traps.

I too am Ranger/CH with skills in marksman (ranger 2/2/2/3, CH 1/0/1/1 Marksman 2/4/0/4) with the bare necessities in artisan for survey and medic to use stims. I have the full pistol tree, but as I climb in CH, I'm taking off pistol and trading it in for rifle little bit by bit. I just need that pistol at the moment because my pets aren't the heartiest of tanks until I can track down a panther or wrix.

I never really considered CH until a friend of mine bought me a pet when I was a non-CH. I realized to solo effectively in the way that I play, this would be the greatest asset I could achieve for myself, without having to have intense weaponry skills to use better weapons/specials. I also feel it ties in nicely with ranger as a roleplay concept, although I'm not much of a roleplayer. Combining Ranger with CH is nice with /areatrack too and I can only imagine it getting better once /tracking is in place.

The only bummer about this is the lower harvest amounts grouped with your pet, but taking down mobs faster is at least a good tradeoff.

And to think, I started out and was nearly a master dancer, I took up some basic scout to make camps to heal in and "tried" out traps to feel a bit more useful in the group with my friends. I loved it so much I threw away my dancing shoes!
