First, whoever said they like to walk up and /pet aggro mob's .. agreed .. except for the fact that as soon as your group attacks them they go for you first
Personally, I knew I'd never drop ranger, but I was very tempted last week to go to 0040. Instead I made a character on corbantis and eclipse and messed around with them for a few days. Its nice to not have constant tells and emails to answer for a while. The memories it brought back of starting the game for the first time, with so many things to learn and see, was great. I recommend anyone who is considering dropping ranger to try it. Sure you don't know many people, and you're poor .. but you've got a maroj melon and a cdef pistol with lots of potential
I may quit the game someday, but I'll never drop master ranger on carpeh, unless they do something that makes us completely unplayable. Even if all those points only make me a slightly better harvester, I play Carpeh to be a Ranger.
I think each and everyone of us express the same feelings about why ranger.
I started playing less than a month after launch. At the time it was with a wookie named Salvaston. I always liked melee and swords so that was natural but the profession was a different story. Since at the time I was playing with others I wanted to help them. So I looked into many of the artisan profs. But found them too time consuming considering how little time I actually have to play. Then one of the last profs that Sal worked on was BE. That was fun. It was then that I knew that this character and his choices were not the ones for me. Salvaston then handed everything over to my rl wife's character and Salvaston was deleted.
I wanted to play what I would be like if I lived in this world. That was the creation of Caiden and from day one he was a Swordsman and an eventual ranger. As I progressed through scout I came to the ranger board and looking for ranger guilds. Caiden had joined Salvaston's old guild but left when he met Frederick and then leader Corrick.
Ever since I decided on this path it has felt right and good. I have fought along side Frederick and many others in our guild for many months now and it has been the best times. Everyone has summed it up very well the feeling of this profession and I know and feel it all to well myself. I love being part of this board and love playing a ranger. Thanks veterans like calc, jb, and agon to name a few on the board and thanks Frederick for a terrific hunt. I will never leave ranger.

As a way of life, I can say I've tried many of the different profesions in the game, and many are enjoyable. I had always wanted to try ranger, but was caught up in the whole harvest trap; money, power, got to get my resources, ect. Then, after the whole Hologrinding invasion,I decided that the time was right to play the ranger, and for all the right reasons.
The ranger is self sufficient, protects the boarder lands of society (on wich I can say I have been days in the wilds without running into another player),and is foremost, the master hunter. On that note, I truly felt THE WAY OF LIFE after I'd been in the wilds for several days and I came across another player character. It was actually pretty exciting, and at that moment I felt like I was playing a ranger.
One other example, was when I was solo hunting and came across a lair I wanted to hunt, and then looked over and saw my old nemesis sitting patiently next to it, the Plains Hunter. I masked scent and decided to go for it regardless. Soon I was fighting, and the Plains Hunter rushed in, but to my dissmay, targeted my prey instead of me. We fought along side each other through the whole lair, wave after wave. And once I destroyed the lair, I moved on and left my friend in peace. This was a great playing moment for me, and a testiment to the true value of being a ranger. Wich other class could have done this, few I suspect.
These playing moments were great fun for me an I believe sum up some of the ways of the ranger, good luck to you if you leave, and you may find you will be back.
Big-Mac, Kettemoor Ranger/CH
Exactly my thoughts.
Master Ranger/Master Rifle used to be a the rooting tooting king of the wilderness. Dont like that lair there? Strafeshot2 it and blow it to pieces. Talk about fun fast paced combat.
Now, in the stacker crazy CU, you pretty much need to be a double weapon master to get anything done out there. Ranger/Rifle has been reduced to a Cub Scout with a bebee gun. Plus, you can't just hit your shootx10 macro to kill stuff. you have to sit there and stare at the toolbar and press the same 2 buttons back and forth ad nauseum. So going out and killing 1000 animals just got alot more tedius and hard on the fingers. In fact, you are better off just running a macro on a city static and going to bed (pathetic huh what the king of professions has been reduced to)
I have already decided that Master Ranger is out of the question. High level camp or low level it doesnt matter, they are best used for flattening terrain and clearing trees to attack or get to something stuck, and traps have always been worthless trash.
I tried Master Ranger/Rifle (old template)... fires too slow and no area effect shot/crowd contol and low overall combat mods.
I tried Master Ranger/Master Bounty Hunter/Marksman 4004... fires even slower but has spray shot and better defensive mods ... maybe with carbines?? but their range sucks.
both of the above simply dont cut it when you have 6 level 30's on you .. the one below does though
I tried Master Rifle with Ranger 4030 and Bounty Hunter 0404(comes out to "level 76") .. this is the best I can think of that still retains the most important Ranger skills. It "works" but leaves alot to be desired. (a level 76 template that is stronger than a level 80 template hmmm .. nice level system)
But in the end I'm prolly gonna drop Ranger and go Master Bounty Hunter/Master Rifles and stack the rest. (and never even bother to hunt people .. I am strictly PvE) Losing track will not be appreciated but most of the time track doesnt work like you would think it does anyway (only works if what you are looking for is by a static spawn, by another player, has spawned in the last 40 seconds, or has been loaded onto the radar). Loosing camo and crawl speed will suck though. But track, camo and crawl speedsimply arent worth one third of all the avialable skill points a player has to get.
The answers are quite easy.

Why is Ranger the ONLY elite profession in the game that requires the mastery of a novice profession. (Master Scout).
Because we are the most elite profession in the game, even more elite then the BH's and the Jedi they hunt. This is something to be proud of, not to wine about. (and to use a leverage when our rewrap comes)
Can we say OOO - RAH!! Keep repeating the mantra, "Ranger IS a Lifestyle, not a Profession. Ranger IS the true jedi."

Why we get the LEAST bonus to Defense/Offense of ALL the combat professions?
Because we of all profession have, the most mature player base and thus the least winners and cry babies. And because, everyone know that SoE apply the oil to the squeaky wheal.
Sad, but true. Unfortunately our maturity and sense of fairness HAS left us a wee bit disadvantaged for now. However, I'm hoping that we can turn that pain into something useful...

Even a squad leader has their own weapon, We don't deserve a special Ranger rifle?
Because not all rangers are riflemen, some are even melee fighters, and unlike other profession that have signature weapons we do not have a line in brawler or marksman as our prequest.
Yup. The reasons for and mostly against a 'ranger specific' weapon have been thrashed out several times in the past. Now, I'm not saying we shouldn't continue to discuss the idea of a ranger weapon, but we do need to bear in mind that any weapon will entail prereq's. So, which lines of which of the novice profs are we going to have to take? Will that really free up any SP? Would that be a wise investment of SP? Or would it be better to concentrate on wringing every last bit of rangerly goodness out of our current SP investment and making this the real elite outdoors profession that it always should have been?
Why Ranger? Because!
