hello fellow rangers,
I rarely come to the boards, I have been a ranger ever since the second month of release. I wanted to be the resource guru for my comunity and I accomplished that, accumulated mass wealth and now I am not sure if I want to stay a ranger. Not sure what I am even asking here... I hate to give up on the profession but I don't see any reason to stay... We are the best harvesters of organics... but only 30% better than scouts, and now there are 30%+ drinks that will boost your harvest (is it worth 63 skill points to get 30% anyway?). We where needed for camps in the early days, healing, calling of pets... thats no longer needed as soon as the next publish comes out... Tracking,.. now here was something that really excited me... but half the time the creature im after will show on track,.. then disapear... or if its a remote area (where we usualy are) the tracking is blank... untill we walk around and force a spawn.. Traps,... ummm I used to use them untill i got master rifleman... now why waste the time hehe.
I really hate to be negative, i do. I have been a ranger so long I want to remain one. But why? is there going to be anything comming out that makes us interesting? for the other long time rangers out there... what makes you stay a ranger?

Because it appeals to us the most....
It's kind of like trying to explain why you might like vanilla ice cream more than chocolate... or vice versa.

I hate to sound corny but ranger is more a way of life than a profession. I love being able to walk up to agro creatures and /pet them. I love being able to just wader around without a care in the world, knowing I can go by any critter and if by chance mask or camo breaks, I can out run them. It is always fun to pull out the huge camp and get the wow factor from other players. I have yet to master ranger yet but can't wait. I never seen more than one master ranger in one spot. Everyone of them has been more than helpful with any questions or concers. The community in its own right is reason enough to stay. But if you choose to move on, good luck to you and after you get aggroed every time out I hope we see you back here. Good luck to you in whatever you choose.

yes it appeals to me also, i guess i am asking,.. why does it appeal to you? what makes you not want to move on? Ive been a ranger for so long I really dont want to give it up, guess i am just a bit jelous seeing all the tweeks in the other classes and we get nothing
Bufordtj:
yes you know,.. in my travels I kind of take that for granted... just ignore radar and run right past everything... that is a definate plus. I also agree with you about the camps, but soon after the publish hunting groups realy dont need them, unless they just want to chill out in them.. fix um maybe? make the tech base actualy repel agressive creatures? then open it up between 3 rancor lairs and just take a nap heh
Trust me I am not here to whine,.. even though it sounds like it,... but more for you other rangers to do like Bufordtj did and say what makes you stay threw it all

Because I also have a Master Bounty Hunter and a Jedi Initiate. the jedi is on the account with the Master Ranger/Rifleman. AndI have a good friend with two accounts that I have access to, One of those is a Master Doc and the other is a Master CH/Pistol that I don't bother with.
I sometimes log on the Doc to make some cash buffing others and of course to buff my toons when needed.
The BH is fun for PvP and the occassional BH mission. (need my droids fixed for Jedi)
The jedi.. well believe it or not I opened this slot 6 weeks ago or so and haven't played it other than creating it lol.
The Ranger- After all the grinding on that account I wanted a toon that I could have fun with... So i totally rebuilt the toon. And took my time doing it (for me). No hurry really.Have two boxes to go in Rifleman which I'll knock out in a couple of nights. I'm not hunting for xp but more to harvest organics to sell.
So for me it's the variety.. CurrentlyI have the most fun on that toon and it will remain a ranger unlessSOE tubes the profession by adopting something stupid like that idea the Bioengineer putz posted the other day.

Firstly,
There is no shame in leaving to try other professions. If you feel that you need a change, (I did) try other aspects of the game. I left ranger and tried other things, however I came back for the forums, and the intangible joy of being a ranger. There is not a single skill that I have that I really missed and I really dont RP much. However, once i lost my scout skills, I felt something was missing.
I made my way to ranger as quickly as I possibly could because without it i felt strange.
I am going to stay a ranger until the lights are put out.

I agree with Agon. I have been playing Ranger so long , that I cant even come to terms with myself when I think about leaving the profession. The devs are going to help us out, they are, and that hope is something nobody can take away, not even SOE. I love this game, and I love this profession. And if you have ever heard the saying, " the grass is always greener on the other side, until you get there" , it is. We may have it "bad" , but our profession still kicks a$s!!!! All people can think of improvements, and if you look around the other professions, everyone is complaining about something. And if you ask is the 63 skill points worth it, for the skills and mods we get, probably not, but being able to say I am a Master Ranger, hell yeah its worth it.

I think his point at this moment is...
Why Ranger and not just Master Scout?

The posters uderstand that. Their point is....the only real reason to master Ranger is to say you are one (a rare breed) or because you like the implications of Rangers being at one with nature. If you are into being a master ranger, your skill points are much better spent elsewhere and going with master scout.

If you are the kind of person that wants good statistical "bang for the buck" so to speak, wanting a skill set that is very useful in general aspects of the game play, then Ranger is not a good choice in my opinion. Master Scout takes care fo that for the most part. But that has very little to do with my being a master Ranger.
To sum it up, it is an RP-esque profession. I say that because even those that don't RP in the traditional sence among the universal Ranger family still have a feeling of pride in their profession and the accomplishment of makeing it and keeping it that goes far beyond statistical analysis and skill set accumulation. Rangers are different folks. There are as many reasons to be one as there are rangers, but one comonality runs through it all. That cominality is a sence of belonging. For many of us (or the ones I have met and read here on the boards) Ranger isn't a profession in the way the other classes are. It is an identity. And for those that stay, like myself, itisn't about the skill set, or the useability.
Yes it would be nice to have some more useful aspects, and new toys are always cool, but that wasn't why I became one and my remaining one is never in question, even if we never get addressed.
Personally, I took great pride in my scout tree when I started. It called to me and I followed it. The basic skills learned there are indeed core to my survival. But when I got to Master Scout ... there stood Ranger ... the identity of the thing beyond Master Scout. The identity of that which goes beyond the scouting. Scouting became but the path to Ranger, the basic skill set, the beginner's course. For those that want the great advantages that the basic knowledge gives, but do not want to commit to the full (in my mind) complete identity, that is good enough. Master Scout and you have all you need.
But committing to Ranger takes you into a new environment. One where you are committing yourself to a lifestyle. Many other professions can allow for Master Scout, but Ranger requires more. You are a scout that has committed not only your time, but your skill points to an identity. The Ranger over your head tells others that you are committed to a way of life. Not just a skill set. And others, whether they agree with your choice or not, seem to understand that. They look at you differently, andsometimes ... respectfully.
How much more so when that level of commitment is shown in the words Master Ranger.
I have been a Ranger for a long time. It happened through natural progression. It is the path I walked. The skills I learned were incidental, not the cause. I may not be L337 or Uber by the standards of others, but I am something they are not ... and will never be. My brothers and sisters follow the path that I do. Holo-Grinders will come andgo. In the end we will persist, following that path that began withNovice Scout and led us here, and having made the journey, as I and a few others continue to do, is the reward.
We are an elete profession in the truest sence of the word.A profession few follow, and even fewer master. The sacrafice is great ...the reward is in the walking of the path.
In my opinion, ifsomeone isquestioning whythey should be a Ranger, they are the only one that can answer it. Try it and see ... ifthey are like most peoplethey will go and take up another profession. If it calls to them, they will stay. They may even return after leaving discovering that Ranger is where they belong. But at the very least they will know the journey, and hopefully respect those that remain.
