Thread: Survival Exp Should Be Based On Distance From Civillization!

Well this is an interesting suggestion and I like the majority of possiblities this can have.

I really am appaled at the no build zone drop as I think we rangers will see a period of timen00bs camping outside of cities.

When I was starting out as marksman/scout I did find no build zones to be particularly difficult but not frustrating, just time consuming. But and this is a big but, those no build zones forced me out into the wilderness to explore. (I think this was the devs original intent)

In doing so, I found a lot more variety of creatures and found myself gaining scout xp like mad from the kills I was doing, lairs I was taking out, harvesting (and in turn selling) and mad trapping xp. In fact, I flew threw trapping in scout in a matter of a couple hours.

Now I literally have a real lifebetter knowledge of what creatures I can handle solo, where interesting things are located, how others should approach difficult red cons and win the fight and have me out there to heal up in nice big fat camps.

Whoa...I think we are seeing what the whole purpose of the ranger profession is for. Now I get invited to hunting groups as some of the other players are learning that I can cover ground much faster than they, find good hunting locations and provide a way to rest and heal and keep the hunt going for hours at a time. So that makes them and me happy as we are all gaining a fair pile of xp in weapons, healing, crafting, surveying, harvesting, trapping etc.

So how does this play into the poster's suggestion to provide a more dynamic way to gain xp? This would help provide an incentive to get out there and explore and rough it. We certainly have actual bugs and issues with our skill tree but can you all think back to starting days and realize you didn't really know jack about what was out there? Now imagine if you could have easily gained and mastered survival 4 by camping outside of towns? Aside from the issues and bugs, we rangers have real life understanding of the environments and creatures out there.

If I were starting as a new player today and the no build zone was a thing of the past I would be tempted to try and just camp outside a little ways from cities and work small simple creatures. This can be good for the real early stages perhaps but if I then learned that if I push myself way out there and really try to survive in the wild, my xp gain would be x times better than the wussy way I'm doing it now then I would be out there right quick. Hopefully Mineras will read this thread and post his thoughts as well.

So am I up in the night everybody or did I make sense here? I talk too much...
