Thread: What do you like most about Ranger?

I enjoy Ranger because of the uniqueness as mentioned above. However, there is a depth to that uniqueness that is special. The Roleplay possibilities for a Ranger are almost infinite. When you walk among the crowds of a startport, you (as a Ranger) have a certain air of quiet confidence that people recognize and respect. You ARE the master of your environment.
When a PvP battle happens around you, most will leave you alone for they do not wish to bite the hand that feeds them. The economy depends on us for our harvesting abilities more than most of us realize. Who else can harvest mountains of the best resources or even has the patience to do so. The Commando's and other combat professions do not have the patience to harvest 100K Talus avian meat. We know through time and experience that patience is our cornerstone.
Our tracking abilities are always requested by those who do not dabble or havent dabbled far enough. When we are our in the wilds and there is no desire to go back to a town for a mission terminal, we dont have to just to continue our hunt for a specific critter. We track the area and find the direction and distance to our desired prey.
Our camps are by far one the best graphics in the game. We are able to amaze the new player as well as the veteran players withthe marvel ofour HTFB. It not only looks good, but can act as a field hospital when needed.
We are one of the few professions that really need no one to survive in the wilderness far from a city. We do not need to go into town unless we want to. Whether our personality is as a lone wolf or social butterfly, our profession is as adaptable to different personalities as any other could hope to be.
Rare.....we are definitely that. We are a cut above the rest.

The best thing about Ranger is that it easily has the most potential for improvement =P

I agree totally. The forum community is what made me finally decide to take the plunge and become a Ranger. I knew of all the class short comings, but it seemed worthwhile to be able to be a part of this community.

I have always enjoyed being a Ranger, in D&D, Everquest, Baldur's Gate and so on. The image of a Ranger is mysterious and powerful, even tho we as a class may not truly be.
The camps: they don't always work as advertised, but they are excellent eye-candy. I'm looking forward to finding out if modular camping will become a reality. That way camps will have increased function. That, and a High Tech Field Base with a rocket launcher would be SO cool.
The lifestyle: I have NEVER cracked a million credits. To be sure, such a feat when I was on Test Center would have been incredible. But then again, I have never felt the need to. I like hunting creatures and I rarely need many credits to do that. I often go unbuffed into a battle (a few days ago I went unbuffed -after I got DB'd wearing buffs- back to my hunting group and proceeded to hunt Enraged Rancors unbuffed, unspiced and unarmored. Yes, I did get killed, but only after a solid amount of time living on the edge. I love being able to do that. Not too many proffessions would stop, get off their bikes and take 15 minutes taking screenshots on Yavin4. That's a Ranger-ish thing to do. We can appreciate many of the little nuances of the game and appreciate the planets for their beauty.
People ask me almost weekly WHY am I a Ranger, "My response has been it is a Lifestyle, not a Profession." Glad to see others feel that same way.
The potential: this is the biggie. I see us being a great proffession, and that's what keeps me here, along with all the other things. There so much for us to do and so far for us to come. The potential of Ranger is incredible and all the time waiting and all the ideas the devs have nixed do little to diminish my faith in the usefullness and versatility of the Ranger proffession.

Aside from the known perks, i love the fact you can level two ranger trees without harvesting a single creature. I went to dath last night to test my new master scout/mask scent clothing combo. I just mastered scout last night, so I was anxious to poke some mutant rancor butts. Anyway, I head off to the sarlacc. Every red dot onmy radar registered 150-250 scout xp as I passed. by the time I got to the sarlacc, I had to turn around and get trained. It was sweet. As I found mutant rancor, I was pleased to get 250xp per rancor I approached. I did more running around and got 0-0-2-0 with little effort. My mask was broken 5-6 times, but a 6 second timer makes it awesome. A few more nights of dath and I'll have 0-0-4-0 with no harvesting. Now to drop my surveying skills so I can get wayfaring too.

From a skills point of view I like the enhanced creature harvesting abilities.
I enjoy solo hunting the most in the game and I think the ranger fills that role the best. I never seemed to fit into my guild as a ranger. People could never figure out why I wouldratherhunt rasps instead of rancors. After I left my guild I had much more fun with ranger as I could hunt where I wanted to hunt. I have developed a good client base and feel that I fill a niche in the player economy.
I kind of envision myself as a Canadian couriers-de-bois: a frontier trapper that arrives in the city with his canoe full of pelts thathe harvested from the wilderness.

P.S. I also like the Ranger forum as well. I find myself posting here a lot more lately than my server forum so it must be a better forum.

The idea for my Ranger was to wander around the planets, find all of the interesting hidden stuff, and become an Intergalactic tour guide and hunt master. Considering the way things have gone in the game since then, I've had to alter my vision somewhat. I still wander, but mostly for my own knowledge and amusement.
Self-sufficiencyhas becomeanother big thing for me. Other than having to buy new weapons after a while, new clothes after dying one too many times, metals and chemicals for camps,traps and stims, asaftey deposit box to hold my extra stuffand the occasional trip to a cantina, I don't need civilization. 
It wasn't a deciding factor for starting the profession, but the uniqueness factor does now play into it a little. A great community on the boards certainly is a big plus too.

Ive been traveling with a bio engineer friend and using area track to help him find certian creatures for samples.he then uses the crafting station in the HTFB.
It makes me feel very usefull.
We should have storage in our camps though.

I am so glad I found this thread! Only been playing SWG 4 weeks and have been grinding my way through camps the last few days to get master scout. I didnt really know where I was headed with this profession but liked the sound of ranger when I was looking at my options last nite.
I signed up for novice ranger this morning, had a play and loved all the new skills I had acquired. Then I read some of the threads and immediately regretted my decision...seems there are a lot of issues regarding where the profession fits in.
Thankfully I found this thread before it was too late and now know I am on the right path for me...
So what if I dont make a million and am just considered a harvesting machine....the thought of roaming around the galaxy, hunting out my prey fires all my engines...and as long as I can return to the cities to have fun and tell my stories of enraged rancors, I will be a very happy rangeress!
so thanks everyone for restoring my faith in my career choice...

I like to pretend I am the master journeyman, a guide to the wilderness.
I like to pretend I have useful skills and tools that help me survive away from cities indefinetly.
I like to pretend I can provide people with information and guidance that helps them survive better when they are out on expedtions or hunting trips with me.
I like to pretend, that if it werent for me, others would surely perish in the harsh wilderness.
I like to pretend I can offer some sevice that would help others kill an animal quicker and more effectively.
I like to pretend that I am the master hunter and that no creature would stand a chance against me.
Key word, pretend....
