As I understood, the trapping bonus indicate the level of the trap you can put in it.
Meaning a novice scout could use highest trap available with that droid.
I may be wrong on that, I'm just a DE.
And for the guy that say it's only to make money for DE, if I compare the amount of money harvester droid or trapping droid give me with the amount of money a ranger friend of mine does, I'm not sure we can talk aout money maker really.
Especially with the need of uber resources needed to make good rating, that are bought at a much higher price by AS/WS.

Since this question has been answered, I will throwout:
Who in their right mind called trapping droids uber ?!?!?!?!? They may be helpful, but nothing more than that.
With that being said Calc, I have a trapping droid that I have used once or twice, but I am going to name him Uber and walk around with him.
I use the Harvesting droid sometimes, with a little macro that spams the harvest command. I have a had 2 lairs right next to each other, and it helped. The trapping droid, when I did use it, was because the lair was on a wierd mountain in the middle of some baddies. Didn't feel like upsetting all the forest cretures at the same time.

A trapping droid adds to your trapping ability. It also allows you to launch traps remotely while still in combat. I use both adhesive mesh or glowwire with my trapping droid. Primarily glow wire since it drops melee and ranged defenses of the target.
The droid can launch traps up to 60m. So if your going into a lair just set him up on the edge tell him stay and yell the command.
Trapping modules do stack. Mine holds 39 traps with a 56 bonus. I have yet to find a real meaning to the bonus. But i have seen that i can trap higher level creatures then I could without it.
Trap droids give you half trap xp for what they hit. If your in combat and just start to let the traps fly its an easy way to get trap xp. And making traps is survival xp anyway. Something else you need.
I'm a CH/Ranger who uses pets and droids together. For the sake of everyone, please, don't shout your commands. Use /tellpet. The /tellpet chat channel does *not* work for single character commands but I've never seen it fail for anything else since it was fixed many months ago.
So CH/Ranger is turning into a less rare combo?

Are there any Rangers that find the droid usefull?
No, it's utterly useless, but I have fun with it anyway. I had a binary lifter made for me with trapping and storage. You have no idea how hilarious it is to see that thing chasing around a kimo, and every once in a while tossing a useless trap at it. Oh mercy.
