Harvesting droids helps in two ways.
1> I have an R3 droid that has a harvesting rate of 97 and it yields about 8-10 more hides on quenkers that I do at 4-0-4-0 Scout. I could be wrong but I think the higher up the Ranger profession you go.. raising your harvesting mod... doesnt yield the same results as it does as a higher level. In other words.. the lower your regular harvesting mod is the better rate your droid will harvest. I need someone to verify that one tho. I think I have it right.
2> It frees you up to keep fighting while your droid scurries about harvesting whichever resource you have it set to.

A trapping droid adds to your trapping ability. It also allows you to launch traps remotely while still in combat. I use both adhesive mesh or glowwire with my trapping droid. Primarily glow wire since it drops melee and ranged defenses of the target.
The droid can launch traps up to 60m. So if your going into a lair just set him up on the edge tell him stay and yell the command.

Trapping modules do stack. Mine holds 39 traps with a 56 bonus. I have yet to find a real meaning to the bonus. But i have seen that i can trap higher level creatures then I could without it.
Trap droids give you half trap xp for what they hit. If your in combat and just start to let the traps fly its an easy way to get trap xp. And making traps is survival xp anyway. Something else you need.

Is this a good way to pull singles from a lair if the creatures are social? When the droid throws the trap, does the creature run to the droid or to the owner?

Use a bleed shot from your max distance and quickly /peace. then re mask scent and walk a bit away. The creature will follow.

IfI could have more than one droid out, I'd probably use it quite a bit more, but I usually have my +104 harvesting droid out gathering stuff for me. Trapping droids are useful though. It keeps you from having to stop in one place, take the time to throw it, and saves you the action you use from throwing it.

I didnt like my trap droid!! But, my harvesting droid is SWEET!!!!

I never get up from cover and the droid does all the work.
It get right around the same as me harvesting as MR....and I think mine is +104

Im a master ranger who find them usefull. And i have never used it to pull a single creature. It would aggro the droid not the owner.

Trapping droids are much like their cousins, the harvest droids. USELESS, but they make the DEs money.
Ok, only cogent argument I have seen is - When throwing a trap the Ranger/Scout is frozen in place. True enough. But as I am frozen in place 50m from the creature, so what?
Second argument - the droid can hold a lot of traps. So can I. I dunno what y'all carry around, but right now with the many weapons, food buffs, weapon power ups, etc, that I carry (no armor) - I have room for well over 100 traps. More if I use my pack. My second line bar f5-f8 is traps, thats 15 pdart and 5glowwires. I can't kill something with those, I need serious help.
Droids are meant to be tanks and fighters, not sissy lil harvesters or trap throwers. Get a usefull droid, one with high combat capabilities and use it. Time on target is money. I dropped 3 tortur lairs in 18 minutes this morning, 18k credits. Counting travel time. Droids do help.

Since this question has been answered, I will throwout:
Who in their right mind called trapping droids uber ?!?!?!?!? They may be helpful, but nothing more than that.

I haven't tried trap doirds as I've never used a trap since I Mastered. Harverst Droids are a totally different issue. I have a R3 with a rate of 99 (I don't know what this mean) and I love it:
1-It harvest 10%-15% more than me. Is you hunt for animals that give 9-20 units of meat (Tatooine orCorellian Avian, ie), that plus of 10% really helps.
2- As a Riflebothan, it is faster for me to say "harvest" than tostand, run 60 meters , go back 60meters and prone again for each 1-2 preys. If you are a melee fighter, you don't have this advantage.
In conclusion, I harvest more quantity and in a more cozy way. A harvest droid is good for inversion me
