I think the announcment is great i will most definatly be picking up SL on my alt. The changes are not perfect by any means but i have no doubt these are a step in the right direction and like Nemo pointed out, SL has the lowest population and they are devoting time to it, thats good news to us.

Whilst i hope we have some skills like that for group buffs, i hope they come from dropping camps/fortifications in combat rather than troop motivation that i firmly believe is the SLs domain. I would like to see group enhancement from rangers come from wilderness survival and SLs through personal motivation.

As you can tell im really excited about these developments and hope the devs start working more along these lines in the coming weeks.

I'm amazingly happy for the Squad Leaders. They've been like kindred spirits for a while now, and the fact that the developers went out, didn't make a big hubub in terms of promises, etc. makes me believe that while they might now be doing any more "in concept" threads for professions, they can still get the ideas from the community and come up with some good ideas. Hmmm....the same could be true for Ranger. I'm not going to get all super-excited and hopefull (been burnt a lot) but I will say that it is a positive direction they're moving here, folks.

I'm sad to see the innate bonuses go, it would be nice they would make those bonuses not stack and only apply if a SL is the leader, like it is now. Though I would hope they'd drop the TN bonus down a little bit. No offense to the SLs, but it made everyone as fast as a MR and I never liked that. But having small innate bonuses would be smart and makes sense. Sure, a person with a leadership personality will be able to inspire their teammates, but it is when that person, or one of those people is leading the group, everybody gets a little boost all the time.

But good for the SLs, and hopefully this means good things. For the naysayers...how you can see this as a bad thing is beyond me. I mean....it's a positive change for a profession that needs positive changes. We should be happy for them, and glad the developers have looked at them. it doesn't guarantee anything for us. but it doesn't have to. ask yourself this question-- would you like the game more if they hadn't been working on SL or if they had? Me, I'm glad they did this.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

I really hope were next. They said ages ago that it was Smuggler(done), Squad Leader(in the works/done) and then Ranger. I really hope were next.

Smuggler isn't done. An IGN Interview with Julio Torres returned the following:

Smugglers should see some changes in November.

Confirmed as "accurate" by Tiggs.

Ahh, well at least they have had a nice change in the slicing system even if they are still waiting on some other additions.

Aye, I remember reading a reply by someone telling the Smugglers in one of the SL threads that the SL is getting an ability revamp, whereas the smugglers are looking for content. There's a big difference in the two being worked on, since smugglers are doing just fine as they are now, but they want more. Whereas SL's have no abilities and needed an overhaul, which is vastly more important than content which merely keeps you interested in the game, rather than be able to play it.

Just a thought I saw.

The sky is falling!!!!!11!1!!!! The Devs are actually trying to fix broken professions that don't have large populations!!!!!111!!!1!!! Everybody should just give up and quit now!!!!!!1!!1!!!

While everything with the SL changes might not be perfect (yet), they are making positive changes to the profession. Maybe the profession's skills are going to be slightly more like the skills of a Bard or Paladin instead of specifically requiring leadership but the best leaders are not known for their skills alone. A good leader will still be able to make good use of the skills they can gain from this profession, even if you don't specifically need to be trying to be a leader to use them (just like a Bounty Hunter can gain useful skills that are not only useful for hunting bounties [I won't mention Smugglers....]). And, with some small tweaks (that might even be in the system already--I have not seen any testing reports yet), Squad Leaders might still be pushed towards a leadership role even if they are not required to take it on to use their skills.

It is great news for SL but very troubling at the same time. Smuggle has been promised there revamp time and again publicy and has actually received very little. TIGGS even put her credibility (haha) on the line in the Smuggler forum assuring them they would indeed get their revamp and now the SL profession is getting it first. So it is bittersweet news.

Umm, most of the Smuggler skill set works and is useful, through a combination of the CU and the slicing revamp. While they might not have Smuggling Missions yet, they have working attack skills, attack mods, useful spices, and useful slices. This might not all work as perfectly as people might like but they have a mostly balanced profession. That's a lot more than Squad Leader or Ranger has at this point and a lot of it is due to recent work. While it would be nice to have Smugglers able to smuggle, I think it would be slightly selfish for a balanced and working profession to complain that they are not given content before a non working and underpowered profession becomes at least slightly more useful.

Good point, and as playing a smuggler before....I can see theyre side of wanting more...but rangers need a LOT more....at least smuggler does work. But hey lets stop insulting the nay sayers....they just have a different out look. Lets just hope that were next, and let the pessimists tell us we arent Then in a bit we'll find out whos right.
