I think this is a very cool idea for you ever so patient Rangers. You guys definitely deserve a nice little enhancement of some sorts for your legendary message board patience and virtue.

s'alright morbal, not everyone hashad a chancetoread your opinion yet... and the more you post it, the more i start to see things your way...

no matter how much i like the idea of having a cool bow or even a better use for my bowcaster (as far as rifles go, they ain't so hot), i don't think that rangers need a special weapon... our combat ability comes from whatever weapon we've chosen to use, and we have a lot of variety in what weapons we can use - as seen in all the "what combat profession goes well with ranger" threads...

we'd have to get some interesting changes in the combat balance for ranger to need a weapon of its own... right now, all i can foresee that would entitle us to something like this would be combat stealth -it would require a specific weaponjust to balance stealth with the rest of the combat professions... (how's that for a broken record, morbal.. heh)

am i against a ranger weapon?.. no, i'd be happy to have one... but i don't think it is something the ranger professions needs above all else...

I do not think Rangers need a weapon. None of the ideas I have heard so far really fit in with both the ideas of SWG and what the common pictures are for a Ranger (at least in my opinion). There is just not enough room in the Ranger skill trees to include a weapon without making it a paradise for dabblers. There are plenty of weapons and combat professions already and it seems to fit to combine another profession (Generally combat with most people) with Ranger but I just can't see the Ranger profession being able to stand alone (as in there is no "need" for another having another profession). What would be best for us is to get a whole lot of good traps that can affect all creatures no matter their size. Also some people have mentioned general specials that everyone can use regardless of their weapon choice, and this idea I do like. Its not the weapons that make a Ranger, like a rifle makes a Rifleman or a sword makes a Swordsman, its the skills of a Ranger that makes them what they are. It is their knowledge of the wildnerness and of its creatures, and having general weapon specials would seem to go with this for me.

Maybe if it was possible and practical for the dev's, they could allow weapon smiths to make modified weapons that only Rangers can have. This in itself would almost be like giving Rangers their very own weapon and would also make it very broad. These modifications would only kick in when used against creatures etc. and against NPC's or players it would act as a standard weapon. Not many combat professions could really ask for this also since they have their very own weapons. This is just something off of the top of my head though, I haven't really tried to develop it at all (kind of apparent huh ).

Anyways, I am done....for now

Instead of a weapon, how about a power up for melee/ranged weapons.

Crafted by ourselves useing various foraged and looted items (poision, bile ) That can be applied to weapons for a limited amount of shots before it wears off.

Mainly state effects and poisions though.

Any good gardener and medic will tell you there are more poisions in your garden than in your house. The right plant juice / sap leaves can leave u feeling VERY VERY unwell (possibly dead) yet a differnt part of the plant is perfectly safe.

We are surposed to be the MASTERS of the WILDERNESS so lets uses whats out there.

Most of our present day medicines come from plants, small doses are benifical but a large dose tends to kill :}

Probably not a popular post as it goes against the thread, but don't see the bow as the weapon of a high-tech ranger, who uses force field generating high tech camps (well at least if you look at the graphics), high tech camoflauge and electronic traps etc.

We do need moe clout in combat though; for instance taking the fairly useless +25 accuracy bonus that we get currently get to base range attacks only and make it apply to:

- Specials

- Melee attacks

- Ranged accuracy whilst moving.

Some defences so we dont instantly disintegrate if a critter does get to us (again mainly a problem for higher level critters that are immune to traps andstate effects and can keep up with burst run) would also be nice, but no holding my breath for any of these.

Must we go over this again? In previous posts I listed tons of links to current hi-tech archery equipment. You simply would be amazed if you think a bow and arrow cannot be hi-tech. Old swords were used in KotOR because of shields, and evolved into the Light Sabre. mmm... force field string, specialty metals or even force arrows, ya, I want that

You know that we are talking about SWG here, right? I mean this isn't D&D or any other medival fantasy setting.

Rangers are explorers, recon specialists in military forcesand yes hunters. But in SW, we do use modern weapons, that is to say blasters!

Ah, so i guess the SWORDMAN and FENCER and PIKEMAN and TKA and BRAWLER professions are all just myths here on SWG?

Cause gee, we got "Blasters"

Hmmm, Luke had some pointy thing as well, what was it called? A Blaster? Nooooooooooo.

hehehe
