Thread: Campers are making me insane
I agree with your statement. I was home sick from work the other day and logged on. I was out running around Dath. I came across a party that was hunting Rancors. They had a CH trying to get a baby and it was agroing one of the pets they had out. I finally had my chance to use the rescue skill and one of the commandoes goes and blasts the baby saying something like you can't tame a fighting baby.
Anyway, they asked me to join up with them. I did and after one of them became a corpse we stopped to wait for him to return from the outpost. I pulled out the nice Field base kit and everyone ran over and hung out. The next time the situation came up someone pulled out a multiperson camp. I don't know if they needed the XP or not, but some of those guys were really hurting in the wound department, and the time we were waiting for the dead guy to return, some of those guys could have healed up a bit. Especially with the Med Center modifier of .95 almost as good as being in town.
I believe that most people don't know that camps will heal all wounds including mind with the exception of BF. I had a Ranger pass me a few weeks ago and he never knew that he could heal himself by sitting in camp. He had gotten through Scout by crafting camps and not using them. This is a huge benefit when on the advanced planets or when on at odd times of day when no docs or ents are nearby.
Maybe we need to inform the populace more of the fact that we can heal mind wounds in addition to health and action, just by sitting in our camps, and that the bigger the camp the more wounds healed over time.
Also, I think it was Holocron who came to the boards and stated that he was wondering why no one left camps up when doing missions. He was not up to date on the whole enter combat and camp disbands bug. We really need to get that fixed. Especially with the Ranger camps that are supposed to repel agros, if the camp can't repel then why should it disband, we can't use it for any type of defense as it stands right now.
I am grinding frontiering now. Just dinged 3. I am not going master, cause I dont have enough skill points to do it, as Im already master BE and of course Scout - and have a few other skillpoints spread across different professions.
What I do, and always do, is grinding the tree ALONE. I dont want to bother other people with my crappy results from an novice. When I join forces with other people, I want something real to contribute with. Of course, this is just me. But when Im then a master or expert, I also gain a priviledge:
I can offer the very best - and demand that the very best be used.
The grinder wanting to grind frontiering in huntinggroups may do so - but not by dictating that only his camps shall be used. Nor can I dictate that only my superb camps be used either. What Im saying, is that if someone says: "Hey, lemme set the camps - I need the xp", then I will refuse. But being that im not an unreasonable person, I would agree to a compromise. 50/50. Or I may say no, we need my camps, cause they are the best.
I grinded specifically to make these camps. Its the only skill I want from the ranger tree, in addition to the huntmaster. The lowbies wanting to deply inferior camps only hurt themselves in the long run, because they set a norm that it is ok, nay, obligatory to do so. When these persons then make master, they would have to give the other lowbies grinding survival xp the same privilegde they themselves demanded the masters to grant them. No way I am supporting a system like that.
well, Hranko, you got your wish.
people will no longer have to pull out crappy camps to get their speederbikes, so thousands will take one look and drop the entire scout tree except for mask scent. Happy?
actually, that came off harsh, sorry.
What I meant to say is that you seem a bit angry over this. So what? You were novicescout once too, and your crap stinks, just like everyone else. I personally don't mind. I pulled out a Field Base the other day at the ATAT tests and someone pulled out a basic kit not too far away. People split and went half in each. No big deal. If they had all gone to him, so what? maybe it's someone who would be a Master Ranger but he or she runs into someone who goes "but I wanna put up my BIG camp" and totally turned them away?
Besides there are worse things than having everyone have novice scout for camps: no one having it since they won't need camps come soon.So try to remember it can always get worse and being selfish doesn't help. And no, for your info, I'm not a scout who puts up tiny camps, I am a full-fledged Ranger who thinks you're not representing the other Rangers very well if something that small can irk ya so much.
but then again, fashionable as your sig says, you're a tailor, not a Ranger, aren't you? These are "secondary" skills for you and that means that you only want these skill because they help your main proffession. You're a dabbler, so of course all you care about is what you dabble in. But people who care about being a Ranger to be a Ranger want their camps to be better. But having someone new try to gain some XP is not a malicious or evil act. And in my mind it's not something to get all that mad about.
I did it. I asked hunting parties "hey, I'm going for Ranger, can I set up camp." So? I was polite and people were polite back (I play on TC, so this is normal). In fact I think it's nice- they get XP, you save hide...the more camps you use, the more resources you use, and the less you have to sell. On a purely credit basis, I'd say let a newb set up camp everytime.
Besides, a lot of these people are new. They need the XP. They may go on to bigger and better things, but right now, they need help. This is a nice way of helping while also getting something out of it. I don't know, sounds like a win-win situation.
and if you get mad about not using you elite camps, just go hunt by yourself for a while and use your own camps to your hearts desire.
Just here to give a different perspective: people always seemed to be amazed when I whipped out the High Tech base. The difference could be the planet you're hunting on. I stick to Dathomir mostly, and there's not a lot of people still needing Survival XP there. I do actually remember the last time I had a HT field base up for a large group. We'll go from mission to mission, sometimes only one person gets hurt a little and the medic heals them. If something goes horribly wrong and there are a lot of people almost down, we generally camp to ease up a little and regroup. there's a call for a camp and I put up the base.
Don't be annoyed by people in need of XP, if your group needs to camp, camp. If someone asks if they can make the next camp, let them. Why? Because there's no reason not to. A field base is fun, but it doesn't provide a regeneration bonus, a wound healing bonus is all. The only drawback to a basic camp kit is that you don't all fit inside the range without standing unrealisticly close together.
On a side note: my crafting stations have been proven useful in the past. If someone just came into town and sees your group leaving and decide to join, they don't always have their crafting done. And while it seems very quick and easy to just ride back to the city and craft there, it will take much longer then you expect.
I understand that you feel useless when all your skills aren't appreciated because the novice version of you gets to do everything, but that just means you're taking way too much offense in a simple part of the game and also that you're hunting with the wrong people. Try going out with the higher end people on Dathomir, you won't camp as much because you'll likely have a master doc with you, but when you do need a camp, you'll be appreciated. And your other skills will be much more useful and worthwhile as well. novices don't know how useful tracking can be, or simply having someone scout ahead.
Im not angry at people for wanting to place camps. Heck, if I was, I would be a hipocrite, because I want to deploy mine... But, its just so rediculous placing a teeny weeny camp when the group has access to the best, no? And for what purpose? to gain 500-600 xp per camp, and camps are, as you say, not so often needed at Dath. Dath is, btw, the only planet I go hunting on atm, and almost in every single group there is at least 1 other person placing camps. That 500xp per camp that the other person gains can just as well be made by sitting near theed bridge crafting 3-5 camps on practice mode with a macro - within 1 minute.
Yes I am a dabler. I think everybody dabbles a bit, dont we? Sure, a master ranger has a broader field to play with than me who only has 0440, but I care just as much as he does that my skillpoints, time and money are worth while. As someone else said, you wouldnt want a novice medic to buff you or heal you at the expense of the expert or master, now would you?
Its just a matter of setting the norm. In game I will continue to advocate placing the highest possible camp for the most enjoyable downtime for everybody. If a novice wants to gain xp, then let him make his own camp on the side. I call that tough love. In the end, it is best for all. This way, we ensure that what we actually train to do is what we get to do once we are out in the field. Thats my main argument.

Why not give some of your Uber camps to the guy trying to get the Survival exp, and let him put them up?
Can they...?
No currently you can only user camps 1 level higher than you current level of survival. Unless they changed it recently.
