i agree with seiryuu. you have been beyond an excellent correspondant & i trust your judgement 100%, but i also think that a little input from the community would be good. it would both widden the pool of worthy testers & give the community a sense of further involvment in the process (i am thinking of this almost like a state sending delegates to a national convention).

but, again, like everyone who has posted so far, i want to stress that i have complete faith in any choice you make in regards to the ranger community.

All I ask is that you please pick 3 Imperial factioned players and 2 rebels (since if I understand correctly you play a Rebel yourself). IE: Help to represent the desires of both sides

Idont think it will matter what faction you are alligned to because im sure you will be able to decide once you get in there.

Just because you play a imperial in live doesnt mean you have to play an imperial on sandbox. I see alot of changing around. Say 20 people meet up, you decided to split the teams up in to 10 imperial, 10 rebels and try do certain things such as take a base, attack a city etc. I dont think it will be a problem to change sides almost constantly because you do have to test both sides in regards to PvP.

I think alot will be looking to test group work also, how groups can work and hopefully make groups and teams more desirable. I just hope they make it so you cant do well on these adventure planets without having a well organised group.

except if you are ranger ofcourse

Rangers should be able to hunt much more effectively than any other profession. I wonder if we can sneak a creature damage modifyer into the C-balance/C-revamp?

I mean they are tweaking specials, making the work properly and making sure each class has their role in groups, not overpowered and such. Id say ranger was very underpowered in terms of hunting abilities so perhaps we can push for this?

Calc, have not seen anything bad come from you yet. So I would have to say I trust your judgment. I do like the idea of picking aeven number of Imps, rebel, and neurals.

like matt said. The melee/ranged ratios is the one to look at. You will most likely be able to swap factions and there will probly be tonnes of character wipes so factional allignment shouldnt be the turning point.

Each tester will most likely find it within him/herself to help test both sides. Remember you arnt just testing your bit, what you will be doing and how the CB will effect you personally. There are alot of people especially in other forums who think that the combat revamp/balance is just about elite combat professions and PvP. Well this is completely wrong because you look at scout professions such asRanger but also CH and SLand you have classes that's main purpose it to engange in combat regularaly with ranger specifically in PvE. Its not just about your weapon classes, its also about the ability to hunt solo, the ability to harvest the ability to do what rangers do. We need to ensure that our businesses and activities are protected and secured because if they arnt, i could see ranger sinking to all new lows in effectiveness.

It will be very important to remember that youwill betesting for everyone in the gameand your community, however you will also have to think about how each variable will effect each profession and ranger as a whole. Rangers know rangers better than anyone, someone who hasnt tried the profession can and most probly will overlook things that effect us, i mean come on, we have seen it so many times that people dont know what camo does, that we cannt do more damage than anyone against, that our camps actually do nothing. The testers that do get selected will have to take into account the different templates rangers have, the different play styles they have and test these thoroughly.

The things in regards to rangers that would need to be tested are:

  • Group Hunting Effectiveness

  • Solo Hunting Effectivness

  • HPH(harvest per hour) Rates

  • Trap Usefullness and Effectivness

  • Ranger Template Effectivness

There are obviously thousands more but these 5 directly relate to rangers. Id expect there to be lots of testing of other classes too with testing of the relationship and balances between them. One of the big things most seem to also forget is that the CB will not only be PvP changes. There will be dramatic changes in PvE hunting. It is quiet possible that the cb will make solo hunting a very challenging experience and something that could be very harmfull to rangers.

What i mean is if we (the whole gaming community) cannot solo very well after the combat revamp/balance, then this is going to be extremely negative on rangers. Rangers hunt and most often prefer to hunt solo. This is not because its more fun (group hunting is so much more fun) but because the group harvest reduction can have a negative effect on their yeild, group findingcan be difficultdue to the fact that non rangersdont want to hunt allthe time (the opposite of acommon trait found in alot of rangers)and some rangers just like the idea of being alone in the wilderness.

The combat balance/revamp will effect us to a great degree and this is something we need to spend alot of time and effort working out, testing and suggesting changes for.

I just hope those who do end up going will have this already drilled into their heads so we can push ranger forward not let it slip backwards.

OK, I have a couple of comments...

As far as faction is concerned, I am not going to pick x rebel and x imp. I am going to pick Rangers. This is not the GCW revamp, this is about combat (I know, PvP and all that). If the time comes for us to pick factions, I will make sure we split up evenly .

As far a melee vs. ranger, that is a good point. Many of us have to done both and are proficient at both. With my Calculus character, I have been a BH with the LLC skills, a Master Pistoleer, Master TKA, and Master Rilfeman, I have even had some Smuggler skills (all these while retaining ym master Ranger status). With other characters I have been a Swordsman and a Pikeman. I am not sure if we need to pick'current' ranged and melee players as we will get to choose out professions when we start on the sandbox. I will take it under advisement, though.

There seems to be enough interest in a nominating thread, but I think i will ust ask for PM's (so people that want some anonymity can have it. So, if you are interested in helping test the CB, please reread the NJ62 portion of my original post on this thread. If you are still interested, please send me a PM with your interest and any notes you feel pertinent. NOTE: I will still have the final say in picking the testers .

Well, if it helps, I have been a scout+ranger/carbineer since day one.
