Thread: Now get this..
There is no reason Rangers should not get the ability to track humanoids in the wilderness. Have you ever seen how much a human disturbs nature? We sure are easier to track than a rabbit or deer even.
I also think that as a ranger moves up the Tracking tree, they should get counter-tracking mods vs other Rangers.
I dont mind if Bounty Hunters have the ability to track humanoids as long as the method they use is slightly different than our own, as it is. They will certainly be able to track player characters with thier droids when player bounties are added.
Then again, why shouldnt a Bounty Hunter have to hire a Ranger to track down thier mark if he flees into the wild?... I would Love to have that cooperation with Bounty Hunters. We would have to go to THEM if we wanted to put a bounty on someone, right?. Why cant they come to US to help track down some criminals?

Jesus **edit**ing christ! I mean, will they ever stop? They are a walking army already, now they want more?
It makes sense that the devs would try and correct the basic profession first, then the elites, then the hybrids. By virtue of the amount of time the game has been operational, there are many more basic professionals out there, followed by elites because they have to master a basic first, then followed by the hybrids like BH becauase you have to master TWO basics. They're leaning towards taking care of the majority first adn I don't blame them. Be patient and your turn will come.

One thing they could do to help make bounty hunters stick to their own skills is to make tracking progress through the ranger's skills.
example:
field bioscience 1 - +20 tracking
field bioscience2 - +10 tracking, /scanarea command that works up to 256m and only picks up non-aggressive creatures. At this point the /scanarea command will tell you the general direction the target is from you.
field bioscience 3 +10 tracking, /scanareanow picks upaggressive creaturesand works at 384m. At this point /scanarea will not only show the general direction of the target, but will also show the approximate distance you are from the target.
field bioscience 4 - +15 tracking, /scanarea now works at 512m. At this point the /scanarea command will tell you both the exact direction the target is from you and the exact distance. Also at this level of tracking you get the /track command which will allow you to track a specific creature in your area (512m).
Master Ranger - +20 tracking, /scanarea now picks up humaniods (npc/players) in your area. The /track command now works on homanoids within your area (512m). (the tracking working on humanoids is iffy)
If tracking were structured in this way (which i bet it will be very similar) it would make it impossible for a master BH to be able to use the ranger tracking on humanoids. A bounty hunter would have to drop two whole skill trees to be able to track humanoids as well as be a BH this would weed out those infamous "dabblers" that have been they cause of many nerfs in the past (CHs for example). Ranger should be able to track in the wild (not so much inside cities), we cantrack a baby rancor hiding behind a 512m from us, but we canttrack a fat, smelly rodian who is asleep in his crude camp, farting the night away? Just wouldnt make much sense to me.
i see a footprint...whether or not its a shoe or a hoof, that is my domain.
no offence but bh can go talk dirty to their droids and stay out of my realm.
How come everyone is so hung up on "humanoid tracking" for BH's and "creature tracking" for Rangers.
I propose two different skill sets.... "Wilderness Tracking" for the Ranger and "Urban Tracking" for the BH.
This plays a bit off several of the comments made above. I particularly like the one that goes something like "sure I can track your mark for you, but it'll cost ya". Separating Wilderness/Urban instead of Humanoid/Creature is a great way for the two career paths to become more interactive.
Hmmm.... almost think that idea deserves its own thread, but I'm not that greedy.
If bounty hunters get tracking, that would mean that the entire column for investigation would be worthless. Why investigate, when you can just punch up the name?
Is it really that hard for bounty hunters to find their marks? So hard that they'd kill that part of the gameplay just to have it easy? I could understand if they wanted it because it was nearly impossible to find a mark, but that's not the case. They can find their marks. Adding a skill that doesn't need to be added for what they need to do is pointless.
Bounty hunters have a way of tracking already. Don't go overlapping skills.Grass is always greener, I guess.

Most likely they want to improve their bounty tracking situation over what they already have.
Either way I could care less if everyone got tracking.

Field Bioscience --> Tracking
The Field Bioscience skill tree will be renamed Tracking. All of the current functionality will remain with two major additions.
/scanarea - At Novice Ranger, the Ranger will recieve the /scanarea command. Players familiar with EQ's tracking system will understand how this works. You can search the area for animals, people, or players. As you climb the tracking tree, more options and information (like direction and distance) will appear. This should make rangers effective at completing hunting missions or tracking down a specific target.
/track - Higher up the Tracking tree, the Ranger will earn the /track command. The /track command will let the Ranger specify a specific creature he wants to find. Hunting for a Veermok? If you are in a region where Veermok live, you can /track for one. Tracking a creature will lead the player on a small mission to find a creature in the area (or in the case of a critical success or failure...an unexpected surprise). Whereas scanarea checks for already existing mobs in the area, /track can be used even if a Veermok lair (or whatever creature you want to find) isn't nearby.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. Regardless of what the BH's want, the above is what we are getting. Not to say that this can't change, but I find it unlikely that any portion of this in the CONTEXT of an Uber Scout would be redirected to BH. I think we can sleep easy knowing that if BH is granted some type of tracking then it would be so satisfy their needs by helping to identify and define their profession. I don't know how BH works, personally, but if I were one, I'd like to have the ability to track marks with, or without a droid. Cheers ![]()
