Ranger Archive
Thread: Now get this..
Bounty Hunters have been doing a little Ranger forum reading it seems. Not even before WE have gotten the track command, Bounty Hunters are asking for the exact same thing in their trees.
Jesus **edit**ing christ! I mean, will they ever stop? They are a walking army already, now they want more?
Everyone wants their chosen profession to be the best. Aren't you rooting for the Rangers? I certainly am. ![]()
I agree though, they should have theHumanoid tracking ability, while we have the creature tracking ability.
There should be a separation of Humanoid vs Creature between these two skill sets.

"They have tracking droids already...."
Apparently they want to remove Droid Engineer from the loop as well. ![]()
Those Bounty Hunters, such a nonsocial bunch. ![]()
One of the main points about this game is dependency and the uniqueness of the classes.
Give BH's Tracking, and you've destroyed the uniqueness of Rangers, as well as completely destroyed the Droid Engineer profession. They have tracking DROIDS for a reason.
BH's already completely own anyone in PVP, and already make Rifleman absolutely obsolete with their Eye Shot. They need no more.
If they want to track something another way, they can **edit** well hire a Ranger to do it instead of complaining for new skills.
"Give BH's Tracking, and you've destroyed the uniqueness of Rangers, as well as completely destroyed the Droid Engineer profession. They have tracking DROIDS for a reason."
By this very reasoning, why should we be able to track Humanoids? Doesn't that negate the use of Droids?
If a BH is so inclined they could pick up our tracking skill for themselves and use it, negating the droids.
Perhaps tracking should be only for creatures, and chuck the whole Humanoid/Player thing out entirely.

I don't understand why should there be a seperation of humanoid vs creatures. I don't see my ranger as the park ranger in yogi bear, only focusing on creatures... I see the SWG ranger as a furturistic survivalist or at least like the rangers in the military in real life.
I don't think they should have the same tracking skills as us, they already have their own tools to track down their bounties.
Also, if they really want some of our skills, why notspend some skill pointsin the ranger skill tree then? They're already half way there with master scout anyway. Just my 2credits.

"I don't see my ranger as the park ranger"
- From the notable:
1)Lack of trapsworking on humanoids
2)Creature to Hit bonus
3)Creature Harvesting
4)Creature Knowledge,
5) fact that /conceal might not work against humanoids
A park rangeris the way the development team sees our position in the grand scheme of things. I was only attempting to follow their pattern and separate out the humanoids and creatures from each other.
"Also, if they really want some of our skills, why notspend some skill pointsin the ranger skill tree then?"
- I think I said this in the post just above yours ![]()
- By that same effect, you could pick upInvestigation in BH to track humanoids if you were so inclined.
Good points there N'Raas. Iknow that we're not a full-fledged combat class, but we should at least have some function in PvP or other areas....intelligence gathering, guiding/supporting groups/raids, recon, surviving behind enemy lines....I refuse to belive that we're just a "personal hide/bone/meat harverster" for the crafters. ![]()
Veering off topic now...../appologize
: leaves the "BH and tracking" thread and looks around forthe "funtion/purpose of rangers" thread

I think there is a fundamental difference in Ranger tracking and Bounty Hunter sloothing.
Rangers learn to track a target in the wild by studying the disturbance the target makes while moving through wilderness terrain. They do NOT track by flashing a picture and asking the creatures nearby if they have seen this person lately...
Bounty Hunters learn to track humanoids by doing detective work and gathering information from other people his mark has made contact with. They do NOT track by studying the streets for cigarette butts or discarded soda cans left behind by the mark...
I hope that made sense. ![]()
"They do NOT track by flashing a picture and asking the creatures nearby if they have seen this person lately..."
lol. Have you seen this Narglatch lately? ![]()
I think we both agree that Creature and Humanoid tracking are definitely separate skills.

Reading your post again, I get a different feel than the last time I read it.
I agree, that Ranger and BH tracking would be different if they were to both track humanoids. However why should BOTH classes have this ability?
BH comes off Scout, so its logical to presume that their tracking would also involve "studying the disturbance the target makes while moving through wilderness terrain" AND asking people whether they saw this guy in town recently.
Ranger seems to be more geared towards the creature side of things (as I noted in post above). Having this overlap would just confuse the issue regarding our two skill sets.
Bounty Hunters get their Specialized Tracking Droids to find their marks. Should Player Bounties ever be created, then those droids will work on player marks as well.
Keep in mind. Ranger /areatrack will be limited to about 512m. The BH Tracking Droids will locate a mark anywhere on the planet. Two different methods and reasons for tracking.
