Sword is hard on the mind and the defenses arent that great. So unbuffed you would be really limited with what you could do. I have to check the curved sword's HAM costs but I think its just as high as the other sword. And dont even dream about using specials with the powerhammer unbuffed it will kill you.
Rifles nice because if your patient you can just conceal shot several times, peace out. Wait for your ham to regen, and go to it again. Plus Ranger and Rifle seem to be a good combo.

I have actually enjoyed the past month or so of hunting unbuffed. I am currently a Master Swordsmen, aspiring ranger . I have found that the sonic pulse traps are an absolute must, since they inflict states which the MS cannot . The AP2 weapons will make taking out lairs easier. I have taken out a seething bol crusher lair with only garrmorl and accaragm. It got kinda hairy towards the end,but i was able to do it. I always have a pixie ready . And in regards to specials, i simply don't use them unless i really need to take out a particular creature that spawns.
On a side note, i am curious as to how M.Ranger/M.Rifleman deals with poison or disease in the field. I know most of you take up novice medic, but this doesn't handle either of the 2 problems does it.
I started up an alt on Radiant to test drive Ranger/Rifle to see if i need to change my current playing. I forgot how cool it was in the beginning to have all those left over skill points

My solution always was to not get hit. If they don't hit you, they don't poison or disease you.

Same here. The thing with Rifleman, for PvP it can never be a true sniper because of the game mechanics. However with PvE, you really can good sniper. Therefore, the whole idea is to be the "unseen hunter", and therefore, as Nemo0 said, you deal with poison and disease by avoiding contact with the creature.
IF I ever were effected, I'd retreat from the combat theatre as quickly as possible. If were on a populated world, I'd then seek medical attention. If I was on an unpopulated world, I'd either set up a HTFB, or head to the the nearest medical facility, sit back and catch up on my emails for a while!

I must admitt that i do hunt with armor
But i rarly get buffs. When i go out on a little solo hunt i usaly put on my black-mountian set take a sip or two of brandy and bring my droid. Being a swordsman i rarly use specials unless its either i get killed or they get killed. I find a well crafted Cleaver works good enough for me, plus they are alot cheaper then a good P hammer. And seeing every 5th person with either a P hammer or a scythe somehow takes away from their coolness. (though I'm looking for an Executioner's Hack)
Is Talus the planet of the Rangers? alot of you seem to hunt there alot or just live there..
And What do I do about poisons and disease? I kill the critter who put it on me then run in circles, then stop drop and roll.....

The excutioners hack is by far one of the coolest looking weapons in game. I have two of them for when i was a swordsman. And it even makes the specials look cool. Since i went fencer they hang on my walls as reminders of when i was walking around with one heck of an axe.

I must admit to the use of doc buffs from time to time, but this is overkill for simplyracking up resources.
My personal combination is HAM 8/4/4-8/4/4-8/7/7 x100, drink 1 Accaragm and 1 V. Brandy, eat2 Gruuvan Shaal and 1 Ahrisa. This puts me at HAM 8/8/4-12/8/8-12/15/11.
Rifle specials (head shot 3) will drain most heavily on mind, so the meal is geared toward buffing focus, with stims to keep health and action up.
I only go through this for creatures that I think require specials to take down, like rancors and slinking voritor hunters. For smaller creatures, I skip the food, as this gets expensive, and just use auto attack.
I am lucky enough to have a looted DXRrifle with very low HAM that allows me to use specials sparingly(although without at least 1 brandy, very sparingly).

I live off the following setup.
When I'm pre-prepping to fight I eat 1 Synth steak and 2 brandies about 15 minutes before going in. During a battle I rely on the synthsteak to keep my damage down mostly. I have Novice Medic so i use plenty of Stim Bs. In a pinch I take Neutron Pixie or Muon as is required. If things are totally out of hand I eat a vercupti assuming I have any room left.
I managed to clear out the Blood Razor camp on Lok this week using this method.
In an emergency Synthsteak is again my food of choice. My stats are migrated so that I can wear a set of Ubese Armor without buffs so when I'm travelling that is my outfit. Brandy is only taken if I'll be using rifle specials otherwise I keep some blumilk handy for quick mind heals and concentrate on just keeping my Health and Action healed.
In either case I've managed my fair share of impromptu battles and planned raids with just Synth, Brandy, Neutron and the occasional Vercupti.

I fight unbuffed all the time really. Now if it is a real dangerous situation I'm heading into, if I can pick up some buffs I'll nab them. But I never go out of my way trying to find them. So, how do I handle fighting unbuffed? Well for one I've got some nice armor I can wear even as a zabrak unbuffed. But I only use that depending on the situation. I also always pop a few brandies and have a few other food types on hand.
But my real secret? And the secret to fighting unbuffed?
Gather close everyone, we can't let this secret out...
*whispers* I'm always grouped with a medic
A certain special person in my life happens to be a BE/CH. So the combination of her pets and her healing ability, and together we can take just about anything, even unbuffed.
Now I know you youngins are going "OMG you group? You're Crazy!". But I tell ya, don't knock it till ya try it.

I fight unbuffed when I'm feeling lazy. (too lazy to find a doc at server restart)
As a Rifleman/Ranger with the standard 4/4/4/4/4/11/10/8 setup (I think) - my primary goal is to not get seen.
Conceal shot works a treat for this and with novice medic I can keep fighting quickly, just heal H/A.
With a DXR 6b, you drain your action/health way slower than if you use a T-21. One brandy and I'm usually set for everything up to about 8k HAM.
When beingbotheredthough - just grab a doc and off we go.
