Thread: Here's how slow the Frontiering tree is...

I use a Field Base Camp. Why did I get 140xp for 39 minutes? I had been getting 1100xp for 30 minutes with no wounds to heal.

I really think there's more to it than just camptype + timeused + totalvistors + heals = XP

I've had the same problems. I could leave a FB up for 30 minutes and get ~1100xp, tear it down, put another up for 30 minutes and I get ~500xp.

Heck, I did a bunch of tumbling moves and "healed" 3 or 4 times, tore the camp down after 30 minutes, and I got 300xp.

Stuff happens. Espcially in this game.

Start crafting camps and get past it. You'll drive yourself nuts worrying about it otherwise.

The punchline of all this though is that you seem to have gotten very good at grinding in practice mode. You must be very efficient at it. However, you've failed to realize that the frontiering branch can also be ground out in the exact same manner that you used to reach tailor. That's right, you can use your macros to craft tents in practice mode and rocket up that tree also provided you are sufficiently bored and have sufficient resources to do so. Heck, if you try hard enough you might be able to craft tents while in camp, and fishing, rofl.

I haven't "failed" to realize anything. I'm fully aware that Frontiering can be ground like any other crafting profession. I haven't done it, as it wasn't the goal. The goal was to get through Tailoring while letting my Survival XP come in the old fashioned way -- by earning it. I enjoy the hunting professions, while I find most crafting professions to be torture. But the holocron demandeth, so I grindeth away.

I'm unlikely to grind camps, given my 3rd holocron told me I needed to master Armorsmith (sigh). I'll need to hunt myself a butt-ton of hides to make it through that grind. I at least find Armorsmith interesting, so might hold on to that one a while. I'm a Bothan, and we can pretty much only use Ubese, so I'm considering specializing in Bothan armor. But first, Ranger and Creature Handler are calling to me (non-holo).

Ok. I just spent 30 minutes in another camp and got 1120xp. The only difference I see is that I crafted this camp while in a camp, the one where I only got 140xp I crafted in my house because I forgot to craft it in my last camp. Again, there were no wounds to heal.

Ok maybe I m the exception here.

I went from brand new player to Master Ranger is 17 days. I mastered scout in 6 days and then went on the grand pilgramage to dathomir to do ranger.

For Camps, honestly, It was camp, craft camp, crap traps for 17 mins (as craftin traps give u survival xp), break camp, repeat. I did that for about 3 days and was done. (You do know you get a 10% bonus to the survival xp from crafting for doing it in practice mode right, at least you did).

For all the scout xp, well it was mask scent and alot of driving. The best way was for me to go to dath, and explore. I drove from one side to the other for three days. I also did this on Yavin, Naboo, Tatooine, and Lok. I collected badges as I went, but sometimes it was just a drive. Mask Scent vs all the aggros on Dath pumped up my scout xp big time.

Trapping xp came in groups. I found hunting groups and travelled with a full inventory of half adhesive mesh and half glow wire traps. Hitting bigger creatures (but not so big as they wouldnt affect them) was the key to gaining this quickly. I found Fambaas and Bolle Bols on Naboo to be the most reliable, findable source of this xp.

I know I am the exception and I know some fellow rangers would look down on my tactics. I am a father of 2 and a husband, I had to find a fast way. I didn't have the time to sit here for hours a days to do it.

Thats how I went from Joe-New Guy to Master Ranger is 17 days.

I have been playing far longer than that, but finishing off ranger was a relief. It let me focus on the other aspects of my character and on establishing a home, and a business.

With Respect,

Not surprising.

I made it through Master Artisan and halfway to Master Droid Engineer in less than half the time it's taken me to get to Master Ranger. Probably about a fourth of the time actually.

"Crafting" skills are easy to grind though. A LOT easier than ANY of the Scout/Ranger skills including passive ones like camping.

Well cool, good for you... but why this thread then? Why suggest that tailor is too easy to grind and compare it to ranger when you are in fact not grinding ranger efficiently? Why isn't your thread called:

"I just ground tailor and look how much survival experience I got for doing nothing"

I think the real question should be "What's the point of having Frontiering anyway if camps don't do anything unique?" If we can't answer that, than any problems with the skill are just grinding problems.

In other words, "What's unique about having the Frontiering skill?" Answer: "The fact that is takes a long time to grind."

Sorry all, I'm unhappy becauseI just finally decided I have to drop CH and it appears I will also have to drop MRanger once I get it (will keep Tracking). I refuse to gimp my playing anymore. It's also clear that the "combat rebalance" is onhold so there won't be any changes to Ranger or CH this year.

going along with JALEN's post, i have some info to add, of how i aquired my xp. For scouting i just always harvested everything i killed (never used masked scent once i dont think,) and what i found to give me the best XP were the rancors. they drop bone/hide/meat and you can harvest upwards of 200 units off of every rancor as well as 1548 scout experience per kill. then on top of that of course you have the chance to loot some rancor items, as well as getting 4500 xp (when in a group with 1 other) towards my swordsman which i was working on at the same time.

Also the rancors are extremely good xp, where i was cheap and used lame tactics, but i was able to get all of my trapping IV off of 1 normal rancor, because i was hitting him with 4 out of every 5 traps, and was getting 1548 experience per trap...i had 12 stacks of 5 traps, and used them all up on the 1 rancor, while it was attacking me. I did this buffed and with 80% kinetic armor, so i never lost more than 50 health or action at once, and my buffs had that easily healed before the rancor struck again.

for my camping XP, i havent figured out a good system yet, but i had a guy tumbling, 1 guy healing, and 2 guys sitting in my camp and wasa geting 1000-1150 every 4-5 minutes. That was for fronteiring 1 and part of 2, now i can make the field bases, which have a crafting station in them, so what i suggest to everyone, if you want to grind thru frontiering, and not peeter, thru it, then a good idea would be to find a friend or guildmate that has a CRAFTING proffesion, and have him come and do all his grinding craftig IN OUR FIELD BASE. and you will shoot up in the amount of xp u get per minute. as well u should be practice crafting either tents, or the complexity 45 traps, and u will max out ur camp xp per camp in probably under 5 minutes every time.

So, this is how i do things, because i am not planning on keeping master ranger i dont think, because i decided on a differen route, but since i was quite a ways into it already i decided to finish it off.

Later all, hope this kinda helps people who are just grinding ranger, and even those who plan on keeping it as well, but odnt wish to wait 2 months for their skills

i don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but camping xp is simple and easy to get. and FAST.

you make a camp, you then CRAFT CAMPS in camp. you get xp for being in camp, but you get much much MUCH more xp for crafting camps in your camp.

it took me a day of crafting to do frontiering once i learned about this 'hidden' way to get camping xp

Thanks for posting this, it's nice to see comparisons for time investments.

Since you are obviously good at crafting, I suggest you stock-pile some bone and make adhesive mesh traps. Or if you can afford it, make the best camp you have available. Those both give you survival XP, and obviously it's going to go faster for you than just sitting the camp.

Then again, you might just ignore your progress in that branch and work on the rest. Hand-craft your traps as you progress through the trapping line and see what kind of Survival XP progress you get with that. It does take a LOT of traps to get to IV in that line.

i just finished frontiering and it took me only 5 hours grinding camps while sitting in a camp.

grinding and sitting in each new camp i was able to make.

tailor took me much longer than 5 hours, that took about 3 days.

to the original poster i hope you were not just sitting in the camp for xp because that is the worst way to get survival xp.

good luck tho
