Thread: What combat skills do you back up your Ranger with?

I have rifle and unarmed. I really like the combo in case things get up on me, and they often do. Ideally with rifle, I am out of trapping range if all goes well. If I am rushed, I can stand and throw traps and punch instead of sitting there for an eternity missing with my rifle.

i'm going master rifleman and a little bit of CH here to have a CL35 pet out at least. I'm only going up the wayfairing and survival branches of the ranger tree though...

Im going to be a Master Ranger/Master Fencer. I tried out ranged for awhile, but its just not much fun for me, I'd rather be right up close getting beat to death. I have no idea why I picked Fencer(no not because I think its the closest thing to a jedi) it just appeals to me.

I went up rifleman first, got a couple of boxes in there, then had a change of heart. Pistol is so much quicker, which seems to suit ranger better. Like many here, I wanted something more appropriate than a nerfed probot, so I took CH and use a 2400 HAM forest slice hound, because he looks the part - like a huge pit bull. I only intend to get a couple of CH boxes, dropping artisan stuff to get them and more pistol, and retaining enough medic for basic pet and self healing in camps.

Me, I am Ranger, Rifleman, Pistoleer. The breakdown of skills is pretty tight.

Pistoleer:
Healthshot 2
Up to Bodyshot 3
Up to Stopping Shot
Pistol Accuracy level 1

Rifleman:
Mindshot 2
Headshot 3

That leaves me with 15 points left which I spent on novice medic but I am thinking of spending some in CH.

Depending on which HAM bar is lowest on the enemy I can use different tactics accordingly.

Many times, I will mindshot, headshot, headshot. If that doesn't affect them too much or they find me, I will switch to pistol to go after health.

Seems to be working so far.

Loth I'm with you on that. Rifle and Sword do a lot of damage. I focus on Swordsman though. Novice Swordsman and Expert Rifles. Mind Hit, Head hit, Head Shot, and Mind Shot go well together. I highly recommend if you are one of the advanced marksman proffession to get expert in the same pool hitting Brawler skill. So for pistoleers if would be fencer I believe.

Well I am only going for the Frontiering line of Ranger, but backing it up with Master Pistoleer, and 2/4/2/4 in Creature Handling.
