Thread: Updated Fortifications Proposal
Hello all, I also posted quite a few times on the subject and although I dont want to re-state everything my basic idea was to require a more advanced Ranger camp to be laid down before the more advanced "Fortifactions" be place. This could also be integrated into the idea that HTFB not disbanding during during combat if they have been "Fortified".
I do not really care for the idea that Ranger camps would just be a component inthe crafting of these SL bases because then all Ranger would do would be to sell their camps on the Bazaar. If the Ranger acutally has to be present to lay down his campfirst it makes then more valuable to the group.I want to see improvements to the game that make both SL's and Rangers a much needed part of every large group.
The problem is many in the SL profession see us as nothing but a "Park Ranger". I see our profession more on the "Army Ranger / Special Forces" type.
I object to another profession coming in here and telling us what we should be. We dont do that to SL's. They should define their own identity as should we.
The Entire SL profession needs a complete Re-work IMO, I think they could make their profession usefull without the need to create more temporary stuctures but if they do get them, they should not take away from us.
Ok, I guess I can post a reasonable reply to this idea.
My problem with this Fortification idea is that it will make Ranger camps irrelevant in groups.
No one will want a Ranger to pitch a FTFB anymore, they'll be looking for an SL to drop a fort. This combat-support role of providing a resting place from combat is one of the core functions of a Ranger. Remove this, and you make an entire line of the profession irrelevant.
Just my opinion.
"No one will want a Ranger to pitch a FTFB anymore, they'll be looking for an SL to drop a fort."
What is the HTFB reallyuseful for right now?
- Improved Healing bonus
- Creature repellent
- Does not stay up during combat
Now the Squad Leader Fortification would probably have:
- Stays up during combat
- Combat offensive / defensive bonuses
Hopefully there might also be a way to combine the two together if the Ranger and SL are in the same group in order to provide all the advantages together.

This is all simply speculation of course...
- Until we hear word otherwise, we have no idea what path the developers will lead our professions down.

For the record:
N'Raas I apologize if I gave the impression I was speaking on behalf of the Ranger community. To be clear, Omegusneo gave the distinct impression, to me, that he had the support of the Ranger community on this suggestion. I, being part of that community, disagreed, and wanted to point out that he did not have all of us backing him on this. If I offended you I humbly apologize to you and the community.
I have no desire to see our profession devalued, we need to move forward and not backward. Im MY mind and noone elses, I believe that the idea of a fortification belongs in the Frontiering line, as one ofthe new camps the Dev's promised. It would expand the Ranger and hopefully stop folks like the SL's from sterotyping us as nothing more than hunters. I resent that, and you the community should as well. A forward combat area is a perfect addition to the high tech field base. I think we should have it. Plain and simple. I will not change my opinion, but I will digress as I have obviously ruffled some feathers, which was not my intent. Particularly those of the Rangers. I put a lot of time and effort into my Ranger character and I feel that this and other additions would add a great deal of enjoyment to our professions.
Your's humbly,

I personally like the idea of the Ranger and Squad Leader working together in a group to set up a better fortification. I think the Squad Leader should be able to craft basic fortifications. These should be able to be set up independently and should not require a Ranger's help to craft. This would allow Squad Leaders to have a useful fortification without relying on another class. The fortifications should only add combat bonuses (i.e. offense and defense), although minor healing bonuses (of a level similar to a basic camp kit) might be appropriate (our hunting blind would be the opposite as a trade off). If a ranger is also nearby, allow the fortifications to be "donated" to a camp (probably only the Field Base and High Tech Field Base). This would assume that the FB and HTFB no longer would disband on combat. The fortifications would be added on to the base, giving the offensive and defensive bonuses to anyone still inside. The use of the camp inside the fortifications would give the healing modifiers and also make the effective radius larger. Once fortifications are placed, they should be targetable. Destruction of the fortifications would also destroy the camp. Squad Leaders should be given a reinforce command to repair the fortifications but this should not be possible while the fortifications or the SL is under attack. I would love to have something like this but I don't expect it to happen anytime soon (it would be a nightmare to implement). I would make the request for basic fortifications first and make the interoperability a secondary request (for when major problems are solved and the Devs have some time to work on this). I recommend NRaas and the SL correspondent both add this to their next profession reports to get the idea into the Devs' minds (or post it on the private boards), but make sure to let them know that not everyone agrees with this. Now if only a BE could set up a cloning station in there...

I never said what you should be, im simply stating what i think your profession is based on the skills you have. and right now your skills are based on hunting and survival.
the problem with requireing a high quality camp set up before the fortificaion is set up is it requires a ranger to be there and the purpos of this idea is to improve both classes and not just one. this is why we need to beable to set up a fortificaiton independantly, but we also want to be able to combine both when a ranger and a SL are goruped together. SL have to be grouped anyway to beable to use our skills so we are already at a disadvantage.
