Thread: Two types of avian from the same planet?

Everyone saying that it can happen (and has happened since beta) is correct.

It has always been a possibility because our creature resources use the exact same system as artisan resources to determine their generation. The only differences are that at least one always exists for a given category and we choose the category to harvest as opposed to the specific material. When two (or more; it is possible) exist in a category you randomly get one.

No it doesn't make logical sense to get two kinds of meat off the same creature but it would be a huge waste of resources to track constantly changing random resources and assign them in a backwards direction to individual creatures. It could be done, but do you really want to add more load to the servers? (I could go into a much more detailed explaination on the flow of resource generation and why doing it logically isn't practical at this point if someone really wants it.)

This has happened to me before the patch. But, I havenoticed on flying insects only. Say a planet has a flying insect, a flying bird and a flying reptile. EachMIGHT drop a different version ov avian meat. (keyword being might)

Hmmmm now I've been harvesting since the inception of the game and have yet to come across this. I guess its maybe possible during a resource shift but otherwise don't think its intended.

The patch (applied to the servers) changed how a shift happend. Before, all current spawned mobs changed right away, but a bug caused the critter to go "skinny" and drop one unit till all spawns on the server completely cycled (usually took a day). The patch fixed that, but introduces a new feature. When any new critter is spawned the new resource shows. Irregardless of species, lair and even within lairs. Hence the seeming "doubling". I shot Torton #1 in lair A and got Wooley X. I shot another (spawned later) from lair A and get wooley Y. In lair B that spawns later for me I get all Wooley Y from all of them. I have even had a case were both lairs dropped both types, all depends on the spawn history and the moment the shift happens.

It does not occur only during a resource shift, unless they have changed how those worked. This would be an overlapping period of time with the normal life-span of any other resource, which is somewhat random.

It does not occur frequently and many people will not have ever seen this because it is dependent both upon the server and the planet. Others may assume a resource shift has occured and not pay attention to the fact that both piles of materials are increasing.
