LOL do you know what a trail blazer is? Aside from the basketball team.
True, there is a lot of room for improvement for the class and, for myself (am not sure if this is how everyone else feels), I feel that it will one day bare fruit. Not only that but I guess its a sense of accomplishment to have attained the master title despite the fact that it doesn’t really do much for you but rather its the feeling that you have gone to great lengths (and patience) to attain it.
There are some good things about it so far and we have to thank our great correspondent for it. Kudos to you NRaas for working with the devs to take it this far.
If you'd like to draw a comparison, it would be much like the Squad leader class but by far not as broken. It should allow us to be a good person to have on the team while at the same time giving us the ability to solo to a degree. After all, we are supposed to be masters of the wild.
I’m sure at this point, you may feel that it is no better than being a master scout, also true to some degree. But have faith that it will get better and this is whats nice about the ranger forum which you don’t find in a lot of the other forums. That you can count on it for constant motivation, encouragement and support. From this there are a lot of constructive and collaborative ideas that are born from the mind set of the players behind this class.
If its anything that wears down the player in this game, its the same bugs we were experiencing since day one (and then some), maintenance and issues of content with the game but that’s another thing altogether and if I were to leave in sheer frustration or boredom, it would not be for the class, but because of the fore mentioned.
I think it's been mentioned before that, if you do feel strained about the lack of improvement, give up the skills that you feel you do not need for now, they can always be gained later on when the class proves its worthyness of your skill points. Whatever it is, you'll still be regraded as a Ranger. Even those who have come and gone. I guess as the saying goes, Once a Ranger, Always a Ranger.
Hang in there friend
Why I Love Being a Ranger
by Mystt Terien
After a kill, I like the fact that I can harvest usable resources and not leave any waste. Otherwise, what would the point of killing be? Gaining weapons experience? Not my style. I don't like killing people. They're too easy. No fun. Give me a pack of mountain dewbacks or a nest of perleks and I'm a happy...er...camper. No pun. *smiles* Yeah, yeah. Scouts can harvest, too. But I can harvest more.
By masking scent or using camo kits, I usually fly under the radar of most creatures. It's fun to sneak through a pack of aggros to get to a hunting spot or make a few bucks clearing the land for some poor farmer or researcher. Sometimes, I just like to wander around and get lost. Spending time by myself out in the wilderness is a lot better than the hustle and bustle of the bigger cities.
The fact that I can create a camp with a food and chemical crafting station and a droid, weapon and generic crafting station for a LOT less than keeping up the maintenance of a house is a HUGE plus to me. No stinking droids to repair either.
I could write a book on the art of tracking. Who doesn't love this skill arm, especially when /track comes out? Being able to go into the middle of nowhere and using my skills to hunt down big game is what being a ranger is all about. I don't think people understand the depth of searching 500 square meters. That's a 25,000 meter area of coverage for finding game. Not to mention tracking down clumsy people and players. I have a short list of people who have crossed me, so if I see their footsteps in my area they're in trouble.
Trapping and my burst run efficiency have saved my arse on more than one occasion. I can negotiate terrain almost as good as some of the fastest mounts coming along in the next few days. As a matter of fact, if I'm ever leading your hunting party, I want you on top of a dewback or carrion spat just so you can keep up with me. For those who have a hard time with traps, I'll let you in on a little secret...it's you...not the traps.
All in all, I enjoy this profession and I'm glad I took this path in life. I don't get all wrapped up in the numbers or try to compete with the other professions. It takes all the fun out of it. If you can't start a post with a subject header that says "I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE RANGER", then maybe you, not me,are in the wrong line of work my friend.
I have to post to this.
I just recently became a Master Ranger and I totally love it.
I actively use and love the traps. Right now I am Sonic Pulsing everything in sight, though my favorite is probably still the glow-wire and the one that does stun. Brain fried, can't remember name.
The camps are great for the big parties I hunt with. Fitting 3 Graul Maulers in a basic camp gets... crowded. It is nice to have enough room to see everyone talk.
The harvest ability rocks. I gather at least 20 units more then my scout friends, and with the inflated 40-50cpu that things go for now that is significant.
I haven't tested out the camo kits much, not really sure how well they work, but I have fun applying them to my groups when hunting on Dathomir (hold still while I rub you in Rancor poodoo).
Areatrack is great. Running around trying to trigger spawns still seems to work best, but areatrack has come in useful enough times that I wouldn't give it up. Want to find a mysterious hermit anyone?
The lifestyle is awesome. There is no other class I would rather role play. Don't underestimate the importance of that. It adds a lot to the game.
I could go on and on, butI hear the boss's footsteps...

Couldn't agree with you guys more. If you want to like this profession and all that it offers, even if there are some holes to be filled yet, then you can. If you are dead set against this profession no matter what new features the devs implement, then you can do that too. As for me, I still love it very much, my friends love that I'm the ranger in the group and I'm still having fun. ![]()
I am glad some of you guys really appreciate your profession and I hope I did not leave anybody irritated with my remarks about the state of the profession. Ask me again, I will keep saying that to me, master ranger is currently a lousy profession. And once again, like many others stated, the feeling of accomplishment that comes with mastering a profession makes it hard to surrender.
Now I do not know much about many of you guys. Some will still love it, some won't. From what I have read here, many of those who LOOOOOOOOOVE it are still novice rangers or recently mastered. I think everyone of us was excited by the profession when we had to really go it to get trap xp and scout xp. YES, I used to enjoy the traps and camps when I NEEDED them to level up. YESI felt powerfulwhen I could wander around red dots without being aggroed. YES I felt almighty when I could change the course of a fight with a falumpaset by throwing mesh and phecnanices at it. YES I am disappointed to see that now, having been a master ranger for about three months now, I cannot find any helpful use for traps and huge camps.
I think we all were excited when we first reached the profession and had to roam the wildnerness to level up through the xp. I wish to every other ranger here that they will never get bored with it. As of me, now that I have been a master ranger for a long time, I do not really see any significant contribution that I can make to the game, be it solo or group. Obviously, I am not the only one, otherwise there would not be so many suggestions on how to improve the profession. But so many of you constructively said: LOVE ITOR LEAVE IT. Well I won't. Instead I have been trying to get involved on other forums by submitting my suggestions to make it a better experience for every other player interested in being a ranger.
Regards,
Markolo, Master Ranger on Sunrunner.
Hi there fellow Rangers,
You know I must say that I do love this profession as well. It offers a little bit of everything for us. I've coupled my MR with a little medic, some CH,and Pistoleer making for a really wellrounded character. Everything is taken care off [could use a little something for mind but hey it takes me back to the cantina every nowand then for a taste ofthe city life]. But....there's something else.
Ijoined the gamethe end of June right after startup, worked my way up andhaven't looked back. Until just about a month agowhenI went to the forum, it was the "Starsider" forum, for the latest news. Thought that the Ranger forum was for learning"the basics" and so I didn't partake. What a mistake. This my friends is just something else that sets you folks apart from EVERYONE else. I was getting really tired of theflaming, childish immature bantering, and such that occurs almost everywhere else. Its one of the reasons I don't do a whole pile of grouping- the immaturity kills mebefore the mob even has a chance.
OnceI found the wealth of knowledge, the friendly nature, an awesome correspondent, the helpfullness offered tothose interested in our porfession, and those just needing a helpful tip on somethingI realized thatI'd found a new forum home - to everyone here and of the Ranger profession - BRAVO!
Personaly I enjoy ranger as well. The majority of my game time is late evening early morning. So, I solo an awful lot. This class is perfect for that. I'm 2/2/2/2 across the Ranger board with no real hurry to level up. I just play. If I gain exp, cool. If not, no big deal.
I can certianly understand frustration at attaining master anything and not seeing any "class specific" perks. But, the beauty of it is you can sell back points and do something else fun until new stuff is added. I've gone to surveying IV in the meantime to help me locate high quality materials for my traps and camps. I've also dabbled in carbine and pistoleer. As my skills increase in certain areas that I'd like to try i get trained.
I guess what I'm trying to say is the ranger class itself is very good for players, like myself, who solo alot. I mean we can be completely self suffient in the wilds by picking up a few other skills. What other class can do that?
ohh you're all freaks!!! ![]()
how you can enjoy it now is questionable, I only stick with it cause i feel rare *chuckle* and it has sooo much friggin potential if we ever get looked at.
