Thread: Are we really such a novelty these days?
One of the reasonswhy I WANT to become a Ranger is because of how rare the proffession is. I have only ever seen 2 Master Rangers in my year of playing SWG. Its always fun to have skills that not to many people have.

Ranger is one of those professions that as soon as it's fixed and "cool " again, you'll see a large amount of people playing.
But, while I dropped my MCH in favor of Master Rifleman, Cryos Merovingian and his band of Rangers on Naritus give me a continual reason to keep the profession, even if it's not "cool" yet.
WOOKIEE RANGER POWER!!!
Unfortunately I hope you are not holding your breath for that day. There has been many promises made regarding this including the ones I dug up for Calc, then Tiggs in her welcome post a response to me that I would be surprised in the future (over 1 year ago), shrotly after that Fred Skinner =) said about 6 months. The list of positive posts to a Ranger revamp, fix, or revision has a long and profound history with no real success if any.
Fixes come but in an order somewhat along these lines:
1. Major Game Bugs
2. Fixes to revenue generating professions (e.g. Jedi)
3. Fixes to profession supporting in game economy (e.g. Weaponsmith)
4. New Content
5. Bugs resulting from new content
6. Other popular professions
7. Non combat professions that generate revenue from the social aspects of the game
8. Unpopular professions that have no effect on revenue generation and marginal to no impact on ingame economy (e.g. Ranger)
Personally I don't see any changes coming for Ranger anytime in the next 18-24 months

Yeah, we get an interesting look from folks, but I guess I appreciate being semi rare. Gives me something to look forward to; not seeing another one of me around. I've been thinking of becoming MSL MR just for the novelty, since I don't exactly like MBH but it does work..

So the insane Ranger (me) is out in a group hunt on Dant. We encounter a Dark Jedi Master... well encounter is a nice way of saying I pizzed him off by riding my swoop over him.
So I am in combat and the DJM follows me to the mission site. We have a full group, no one under 50 and have been kicking major butt. It's only a level 113 Master, so what can go wrong.
Oh yeah, I am still in combat, so proceed to do the only truly great Ranger skill that works in PvP. I run. I run up and down hills, I run fast, then faster. I may have made "woohoo" noises, I am not real sure. All this was in a 30 meter circle around my groupo. My group mates stayed in the center of my circle and plain old wore the DJM out. We dropped states on him, knocked him down, rooted him, snared him, bled him, and finally dropped him.
Two of the group were laughing at me. Funny thing, I suffered less than 250 points in damage the entire time.
Yes, we are rare. Rare to that two Masters in one town is once again cause for wonder. But yanno, we do have fun.

Same thing happened to me the other night... I wasin agroup (group of 6, mostly 50-60 level, I'm an 80), had just finished a mission, and I was going to call it a night, but on the way back to the Mining Outpost, I ran over a purple con... DJM. So, I figured... Eh, why not, never tried to solo one, but here it goes.... I took a shot at him and started running...I was doing really well hitting him with Cripple, and the occasional knockdown, but due to all the little hills in the area, I got alot of the "cannot see target" messages (NOT good with their regen rates), so every time I missed an opportunity to hit him, he'd regain a ton of health. ![]()
I was still in my group, so I sent out a call for help.. something broken up into 1 word group tells... "HELP"... "DJM".... "need backup", or something. They came running (dont think any of them had ever taken one out before). I only had been able to get about 1/5th of the damage done up to this point, but then they jumped in the middle of the circle and started taking pot-shots at him. There were a couple times he got within 20m of me, and I figured ... if I miss the KD/cripple on this next shot.. I'm DEAD, but luckily, I never missed on those shots. A few minutes later, we dropped him.
We did a little group /cheer around the corpse, and I got a Quality Crystal out of the deal.
Amazing how handy the terrain negotiation is when you've got an angry dude ready to hit you for 8k damagechasing you for 10 minutes. ![]()

So, I'm messing about in the shallows, checking things out, seeing if I do make a full blown return to SWG. Seeing as my old townmates have all basically left (or most of them), I up sticks and decide to go looking for a new home.
I wander into Bestine to get myself a new bank account and dump some stuff and promptly get laughed at by a group of random individuals who seem to be congregating outside the starport entrance.
Tin-can A: "Master Ranger?... do they still exist?"
Tin-can B: "Must be a bug"
Tin-can C: "My alt used to be one but not worth it now"
Much chortling and discussion later about the good things that Rangers can do for others (like tracking... apparently... they think it's a highly useful skill...obviously never spent an hour looking unsuccessfully for the Pirate Captain), I was on my way again.
Are we such a rarity these days that we've reached the status of novelty character?
Yea,I get the same thing every now and again. Kids love to make fun till they watch a lvl 70 Ranger / BH solo hunting on Dathomir and Endore. On Wander home Rangers seem to be makeing a comback of sorts. I've seen about 5 in the past week.

If you have it wear your scout tag. It helps to break the ice a bit. I rarely ever converse with jeeteye. If i see a saber I walk the other way. Its nothing personal, I just hate getting tells from the kiddies asking for an "I win" button for Krayts.

When you're in a dath ditch
Just call for the Rangers in tights!
We're butch!
But saying that though, the groups I've been hunting with have been grateful for my traps effects, even if the flash bombs do blind them every now and then. And one of my Guilds members was over joyed to find out I was a ranger as it meant he had someone who could track GDK's for him
