Thread: Are we really such a novelty these days?

So, I'm messing about in the shallows, checking things out, seeing if I do make a full blown return to SWG. Seeing as my old townmates have all basically left (or most of them), I up sticks and decide to go looking for a new home.

I wander into Bestine to get myself a new bank account and dump some stuff and promptly get laughed at by a group of random individuals who seem to be congregating outside the starport entrance.

Tin-can A: "Master Ranger?... do they still exist?"

Tin-can B: "Must be a bug"

Tin-can C: "My alt used to be one but not worth it now"

Much chortling and discussion later about the good things that Rangers can do for others (like tracking... apparently... they think it's a highly useful skill...obviously never spent an hour looking unsuccessfully for the Pirate Captain), I was on my way again.

Are we such a rarity these days that we've reached the status of novelty character?

I've found that yes we are Rare, but once you find a group that is used to having you around to throw the useful trap, or throw up the huge camp when your waiting for someone to get back from AFK they want you all the time. We are rare, and even though we are borked, I would say we are definitely still a loved professions in groups

Jedi love us, no better security for the grinding paddy than a ranger with area track for players, and I am all for being rare. Knight trials come back and we are suddenly in demand again, it is my understanding that the trials are planned to come back. YAY for rangers....

You know what? It really is encouragingto see.

/address entire Ranger community - We really area unique bunch of people. We "keep on keeping on" inspite of our regular swim upstream. I can't say any other profession can brag that.

I know that inspite of our "novel" nature, I still play the game, in-character--as a Ranger (bugs and all)--and love every minute of it.

Heh, the main attraction to me is the creature harvesting. excellent way to make money. I can easily make millions a day from creature orders.

I was never in it for the credits. I've done orders, sure. But from creature harvesting, I've madeonly a couple of million. It took me 5 days to collect about 300k of a resource (wasn't in a grind group, did it with solo or with Nemo0. That got me about 6.5 mil. I ran about 5 BH missioins the other day, got an attachment that sold for 11 mil. Loot is where the money is, hunting is where the fun is.

I'll sell resources, sure. But my big stacks go to tailors, AS, etc. I just give them away for the most part now. I keep resources used for making camo kits, and store them in a factory. when I need some, I throw 'em in there, and that's all she wrote.

Ranger is fun because I can solo two GDKs (attacking at the same time) and actually be surprised when they manage to hit me. It's also fun because I'm part of a great community, where disagreements are usually civil, and are actually interesting to participate in, and where I know that no matter what, we'll all pull together when we need to.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

So the insane Ranger (me) is out in a group hunt on Dant. We encounter a Dark Jedi Master... well encounter is a nice way of saying I pizzed him off by riding my swoop over him.

So I am in combat and the DJM follows me to the mission site. We have a full group, no one under 50 and have been kicking major butt. It's only a level 113 Master, so what can go wrong.

Oh yeah, I am still in combat, so proceed to do the only truly great Ranger skill that works in PvP. I run. I run up and down hills, I run fast, then faster. I may have made "woohoo" noises, I am not real sure. All this was in a 30 meter circle around my groupo. My group mates stayed in the center of my circle and plain old wore the DJM out. We dropped states on him, knocked him down, rooted him, snared him, bled him, and finally dropped him.

Two of the group were laughing at me. Funny thing, I suffered less than 250 points in damage the entire time.

Yes, we are rare. Rare to that two Masters in one town is once again cause for wonder. But yanno, we do have fun.
