I've only gone tracking once, and that was a couple days ago. I was on Corellia buying furniture for my new house (out in BFE Talus), and as such I had dropped off everything I didn't need in my house (armor, weapons, resources for camps and traps, etc). A Novice BE and a Master Medic asked me to help them track some *big game* (by his terms, they wanted lvl 60+). Well, I don't spend much time on Cor (just enough to get buffs), and there don't seem to be many high levels mobs there, but I was bored and agreed to try it. After half an hour, I gave up and said if they wanted big game, I'd take them to Dant, where we could find big game faster. They went to Dath by mistake, so I followed them there. Well, we got incapped a couple times (hard to fight with no weapon and no armor, unbuffed, against level 50's), so I did the mad dash to my house by way of Cor to grab my armor, weapon (I'm a Swordy), and resources. By the time I get back, the Med is logging, so I left to go hunt Endor Carnie for my contractor, and eventually the BE joined me. Well, when I can take a pack of 50's by myself without trouble, there's not a whole lot for the other guy to do, especially when he's not a big dasmage dealer.
As such, unless it is something I want to find as well, I doubt I'll be doing any more tracking.
As for there being few rangers, like others have said, we don't go to cities often. I see three or four a day, but at most one of them is a Master. Personally, I go to town only for training, buffs, or a plane ticket, and then I'm off to the wilds again. This isn't one of those professions everyone dabbles in, and as such you end up with a fiercely loyal albeit small group of members.
As such, unless it is something I want to find as well, I doubt I'll be doing any more tracking.

A small example: Kope usually is 'out in the wild' hunting so bumping into him would have to happen in the small amount of time it takes me to leave a shuttle and board the next while travelling or the time I need to get out of the outpost at my destination location. Rangers are rare, indeed, but even if there were more you still hardly would see them unless you decide to travel to the more remote locations

My question wasnt a cut on the Ranger profession, simply a question about the state of your profession. I rarely see anyone aside from novice scout (most likely a noob who hasnt figured out how to change their title) and I almost NEVER see a Master Ranger. I was reading some of your other threads, and what you think need improved within the profession (every profession has their 'want' list) and am surprised (no offense again) at how limited the Ranger profession is
Sadly, there just aren't many of us...As for our profession, many liken us to'Super Scouts' and they aren't far from the truth. We are not a broken profession, we just don't have much more to us than a Scout does.
On a side note:
are you happy about the BH tree being changed? have you seen this impact your profession greatly?
I have seen no real difference in the prof since BH was changed. People who wanted tracking pre-change, still have it now and vice versa.

I had a rare expereience the other night. I was on Dath hunting herb meat and just got Wayfar IV. I did a seach not expecting to find any rangers, but found two, and only a few 100 metres away from me. We met on top of a hill, three Rangers together. That is something you do not see every day, in fact I doubt if it has happened since on any server.
Why are we so rare?
What do you honestly get for being a Ranger? Very little, beside area track which I agree is somewhat hit and miss at the best of times. A novice scout harvests at only 10% or so below what you harvest as a Master Ranger, so why go to all the effort of doing the skill tree & those damn camps?
Rangers have been given the short end of the stick, and especially so once you achieve Master. Camo kit for Dath...pfff. Big whooping deal. Who needs camo kits when you are basically invincable when you take ahrisa, drink brandy & have spent 12k to get buffed. Look at any of the other crafting professions, and see what they get when they obtain Master. It is ahell of a lot more than a bit of green & brown paint.
TBH, once I get Frontiering IV out of the way and achieve Master Ranger, I will drop trapping, exploration, & frontiering and leave me area track level III. Why bother with any of the others? Do they really give you any benifitsas the game stands now?Again I say this in the context of someone being buffed. Personally I think Doc buffing & chef enhancments has had adetrimential effect on the strength of the Ranger profession. It has made our profession so less important. Why bother foraging for a small mind drug, when you can swallow a bottle of brandy and keep high for 40+ minutes?
The ranger profession is a dieing breed, and that is the sad truth. And unless the gods above do something about it, we will continue to be rarer than Jedi, and don't you think there is something fundimentaly wrong with the game when that comment is made?

I wasn't aware I was being sarcastic in my posting so am surprisedto receiveone in reply. I was asking a simple question as I am not a Ranger and do not know any (obviously which is why I was looking for one). Im finding it more and more often that players find iteasier to blow someone off with a snide remark, than to answer a sincere question.

The very few Master Rangers that exsist are a hard headed breed. We usually have the credits we need to live a comfortable lifestyle.
I never take tracking missions. They bore the heck out of me and I can't guaranteed sucess. The hunt for the Black Sun peeps pretty much killed my interest in tracking for credits. People seem to forget that a Ranger is certified to wear the Mand Armor.
My Ranger sleeps alot these days. She dreams of a day when her diploma is more than just honorary.

I only track for guildies, since for the most part it always proves to be frustrating and fruitless. However two nights ago I got a result, found some wild bore on Tat for a guild member. The first one killed him before I fully realised what was happening, he cloned and in the meantime a second spawned, so he got his Mark of something-or-other. But for the most part tracking sucks to the point that I feel guilty excepting money to do it. Nothing wrong with the tracking skill, it is the spawning system that is the issue.

Actually, out hunting you'll have the best chance to encounter fellow rangers.

My template: MCH/Master Rifleman/0030 Ranger, My creatures tank (and raise mission level) and I only need to use buffs/food for the higher mobs.
Trapping IV of ranger could be usefull if your only combat prof is MCH, more chance to hit with the glow-wire and phecnacine dart traps to assist your creatures.

With the new wookiee armors, the upcoming doc stuff, and jedi stuff, Hero of Tatooine stuff, plus the growing interest in RIS on my server, I have seen the number of tells I get for hunting/tracking requests from people I have never met, skyrocket. Way, way more than I ever used to get. So much so that I can only attribute it to a steady decrease in the Ranger population on Chilastra. I think I'm one of the few left thats been around from the begining on that server lol.
The hologrind is done mostly so all the guilds are left without someone in their group having ranger, most real rangers have quit or temporarily retired and now that all these new resources and things to track are increasing, suddenly our services are needed but there is no one left dabbling in our profession.

Wow. It looks like I am the only ranger that enjoys taking tracking contracts.
I do have certain rules though.
1) If you want me to track rare creatures, you have to be grouped with me and along for the ride. The conversation keeps it from getting dull.
2) You must understand that /areatrack isn't perfect and we might never see the rare creature.
3) I'm in charge of the hunt.
My rates are determined by how much I enjoy the company. Rarely do I get past the first rule though. Most people aren't interested in wandering around planets while you track.
However, I am the polar opposite of the rich rangers here. I can't stand the tediousness of hunting nabooian wooly meat, or Tatooian Insect meat. All of the decent hides and meats seem to always spawn on the started planets on my server, and that means a lot of hunting for 40 units per creature.
