>>>Plus, with Carbines IV as a pre-req <<<

So SOE is forcing us to be carbiners?

Carbine and ranger, like what I have used for over 27 months now 2 hand sword and ranger are both battle armor, so I get no encumberence.

I have a new set of RIS nad 4 sets of Clone battle armor. I dont care to use anything else.

BTW the US Army Rangers wear the same stuff the rest wear. On night OPs we used to just wear our jungle fatgues.

Then you will get killed in serious PvP. I would love to fight somebody in Recon armor with my capped FWG5. Crit shot I will hit for over 1500 easily before armor, and with Recon you'll only mitigate about 35% of that. 4 or 5 shots and I will beat anybody in Recon Armor.

Oh, the FWG5 is Kinetic?

i prefer battle armor because of its flexibility in purpose, but to be honest, i would like a second choice when i go ranger/ carbines.

recon does seem like a natural choice.. however, you can get a set of battle armor boosted for energy weapons.

right now, my battle armor has a protection of 6556, vs. kin and energy. if i wanted a boosted energy protection for pvp, then i would get another set with more energy protection.

Is there a game mech to it? No. But speaking in story or in character would it make more sense for a spy to be wearing 50 pounds worth of steel or 5 pounds worth of leather?-

Again I want to say personally I like battle armor... it looks awesome on my toon and I have bought several sets of this type armor...

again though, that's more of what's in the name (the roleplaying of the word Recon) than what actually appears in the game. Padded armor itself is described as light and flexible. One would assume bones weigh less than a full steel battle suit. But those are classified as battle. So what is "light and flexible" doesn't always mesh up well with what you'd think of when you thought of battle armor. (Incedentaly, I was one of the people that petitioned the devs for RIS and Padded to be in the battle set, since Rangers were getting Battle armor)

when I'm thining of what armor I think Rangers should get, I put the RP stuff aside. What suits our role best? In my mind it is battle armor. What "looks" best for a recon unit? Depends. Ubese looks light, as does padded, mabari and bone. But in the end, looks matter very little in terms of function. And while I do love the look of Ubese and Tantel Armor, I would prefer function to form.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

yup. nasty little bugger, too! I had one that was made with a bugged scope and it turned out energy damage, so I had one of each, but they fixed that bug. But the FWG5 is kinetic as far as I know, and damage capped with just my BH speed mods, I have a DPS in the 550 range, unsliced. Given speed mods in Ranger and a nice speed slice, I could easily hit you for 750-1000 damage every 2 seconds if you were wearing recon armor. Ouch.

Oy between that an the info that traps will be useable on critters after all, Battle is the best option!

oh, and our traps are gonna work on critters too, so you can take that off the list of things that make us "NPC-centric"

Battle seems to be the best option for every class in the game then doesn't it? Perhaps what they should do is eliminate the classes of armor, give us all generic mitigations, and then only allow certain professions the use of certain armors, like the original implementation of mandalorian armor was only meant for certain classes.....

I'd be OK with that . Don't even cert it. Just make it so all armor is the same (allow for kin balanced or energy balanced or even balanced based on what the customer prefers, not becuse his profession dictates it) with different skins. That would REALLY take away the 'clone' armor problem (not so much of a problem after the CU, but still an issue, IMO).

Yeah but I was thinking about BH and mandalorian in particular, where the BH community might be upset if a fencer was wearing it. But in general we'd all be free to choose the skin we liked to wear and have it made the way we wanted it made, but if you had one of the few special classes you could choose one of those "rare" armors in the game

That also would be fine with me...BH can have their Mando and BH armor . Too bad it doesn't matter what I think .
