Ranger Archive

PA Hall maintenace costs are 2500 from what I can gather. So we need a way for members to contribute or for the Alliance itself to make money.

Dues are obviously an option, but can/will turn some folks away I suspect. Perhaps the Alliance could charge a percentage of the contracts given out or something.

Also, I'm about ready to order a PA Hall for Ahazi and would like some input on the name for this elite force. Some options and their tags:

Any other suggestions? I tend to favor the three letter tags, for some reason they just sound better to me. Two letter tags sound unfinished. I'm kinda drawn to either the RAF or REF names for the moment.

As I mentioned in my first post here (in Holo's thread) I've always played Rangers in RPG's (paper or online). I've found that for the most part the class attracts a different type of player. Perhaps it's the image of the frontiersman, or an affinityfor the outdoors...not sure what it is really - butthe class/profession for the mostpartattracts a better type of person (in my humble opinion).

For the most part, while we may disagree about many things, being a "Ranger" should be a brotherhood of sorts. We should look out for each other and take care of our own. That said, I fully support gatherings like this - a "rendezvous" of sorts, like the Rocky Mountain Fur Trappers held in the 19th century. Back in my EQ daysas a Ranger on Veeshan, Ihelped organizeseveral "Ranger" events which were very well recieved. They were a hoot. I'd love to get something like this going here in SWG.

I've only started about a week ago, so I've a way to go before I make it as a Ranger, but if anyone on Intrepid wants to hang out, hunt or just shoot the breeze - give me a holler.

I'm a Ranger on Chilastra as well. I'd love to find others to chat with, or to hook up with for a good hunt. Not quite Master yet, but will be one of these days (pesky Survival XP).

I am making my way up the Ranger profession in the Sunrunner galaxy. Althoughlike many of you I am basically a loner, I like the idea of banding together for mutual benefit both from a galaxy perspective and from a total game perspective. I'm not sure just how this will work out, but count me in!

Rangers ueber Alles!!!

One thing you could do is open a chat channel on your galaxy open to everyone or by invitation. If you get the galaxy's rangers to sponsor that channel you could find willing group partners and teachers that are in your current planet/area faster than sending random tells to people that appear in the ctrl+p search. I haven't fully tested the chat channels but I know they get deleted after a while if no one is in them.

First, Yes it was Babylon 5 that had "Rangers", but how do you define what a "Ranger" is in this game? As written in the SWG guides, the Ranger is essentially a Super Scout. Very knowledgable in tracking and hunting big game and living out in the wilds. This is NOT what a Babylon 5 or US Army Ranger is. That Ranger is a commando with special skills that allows him to operate in smaller units and be the first in to scout out enemy positions (a military spy?). Of course the actual role has been modified and altered beyond this description (i.e. US Army Ranger seizing an enemy airfield with 400 guys..not really stealth-like)...

So while I agree that the idea of the Babylon 5 ranger (the stealth commando) is very cool and I would love to be that guy...that isn't really what the SWG Ranger is supposed to be. But with other skill sets like Rifleman or Pistoleer or even commando or squad leader, I suppose you could put together the commando style Ranger you are implying.

That was a fairly long winded statement, that I'll sum up with a: A "Ranger guild" sounds like a good idea and I would love to be a part of it.

Well, I was really just using that as an example of how the Rangers were revered and respected. Yes, I know we are not the 'military' elite style Ranger in the exact sense. But actually, that doesn't mean we can't be somewhat similar.Some of us do fight in some military fashion when we join the Rebels or Imperials and have a rank, NPCs under our command, go on raids, hop into battlefields and do other such activities. The Rangers in Babylon had their own fighting ships and were the best 'star fighters'.Hopefully once we get spaceships, we willalso be able to participate in space battles, thereby creating such a fighting force. I'm saying this based on pure speculation of what is planned in the future space expansion, of course.

Anyway, all I really am trying to do is pull us together as force that will earn the awe and respect a Ranger deserves.
