Thread: encounter with a rebel ranger
Just to be clear, I ask whether someone is with the Rebel faction before they make the trip out into the field to train from me...
I prefer not to give away my location to the enemy, and because of my Overtness, its preferable that I don't attract too much attention from the other side.
That being said, I'll train anyone (regardless of faction) willing to come out to my location. If they are willing to make the trip out to see me, I am certainly willing to teach them whatever skills they require.
I justdon't want anyone trigger happy Overt Rebels coming out to see me, and decide that shooting me down would be more fun than actually receiving training.

- Totally agree. It is however the mentality of many people that others are simply there to service them.
- The anonymity of the internet doesn't help either, it seems to simply to remove the societal veils and reveal the true person within. 
- Ah well, I'm sure someone else trained him anyways. 
I'm ashamed to see how many Rangers jumped at the chance to ridicule this player. I won't even bother with quotes - there's enough here to make us sound like any other profession smoking someone with a different point of view. Come on, Rangers, we are better than that.
I agree with most of what you are saying, true, and there are many different styles of play. This forum is a place to speak your mind (without belittleing someone else) and while this post may not be worthwhile to some of you, others might learn a bit more about the galaxy they play in. Some kids DO play this game (imagine that!) and not everyone here is over 30 looking fora job =P (just kidding). Relax.
Bottom line:Please try to be constructive even when you criticise others. Otherwise you are not helping, in fact you are only hurting this Ranger community.

- You should probably emphasize which player (the trainer or the trainee) the this player is.
- I can't figure it out from your post, and it might adversly affect people responding to your comments .
I am sorry that you were unable to get training from this player, but I cannot agree with your assessment of the situation. And I am really disturbed by the posts withclaims of loyalty to the profession which so quickly dismiss the Galactic Civil War issues.
The game is not"Star Wars Galaxies: The Ranger Brotherhood." It is "Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided." This a roleplaying game ABOUT the Galactic Civil War, so I find it more than a bit hypocritical for people to criticize the Ranger mentioned. It is okay to roleplay a Ranger, but not okay to roleplay a Rebel? Come on. Loyalty to the profession is a good thing, but that is not the point of the game.
Think about it.It is acceptable for a US Army Special Forces member to feel a sense of camaraderie with a British Special Forces soldier, and it may even be fun to discuss survival techniqueswith each other. However, I am finding it hard to imagine a Green Beret,in the middle of the Gulf War,sitting down and sharing that same information with a member of an Iraqi Republican Guard special ops unit. A profession is a common link, but your having that link does not make your enemies your friends.
As an overt member of either GCW faction, you are eligible to be attacked by members of the other side whether you want to participate in PvP or not. What sense does it make, therefore, to train people who may be trying to kill you five minutes later? And while you may feel that being neutral should have bought you a pass, you could just as easily been a covert member of the Imperial faction or a neutral working his way up to becoming an Imperial, so he was perfectly within his rights to refuse to train you. And your comments that you want to join the other side and attack him show that he was probably also wise in doing so.
No. I think you are the one taking things way too seriously. He was playing a game, by the rules of the game, within the purpose of the game. You and the others who criticize him are the ones who seem to be missing the point.
this is an rpg set in the star wars galaxy. let's imagine for a minute we're actually there. so what you guys are saying is that a rebel can't help a neutral player? get real.

He has every right to decide who he trains and who he doesn't. I totally understand his position.
i'm a master ranger and i refuse training all the time. does that make me a **edit**? maybe. but let me tell you why i refuse it. people who don't know howto ask politley, people who walk around with the request "I NEED WAYFARING II" on shout bound to thier toolbar, people who expect me to drop what im doing and come to them, the list goes on. these people just get ignored, ill take down my title and just ignore them. on the other hand people who ask my nicely i always train and never charge ( i accept tips but i dont expect them). i have never refuseda polite "excuse me, can you train me in -insert skill here-". the only other time i would refuse would be to someone of the opposite faction, if i knew they were of that faction, if they appear neutral i give them the benefit of the doubt. bottom line, every person plays differently, if someone doesnt want to train you, who cares? find someone else or go to a trainer and pay a few bucks, its not that expensive.
the reason why this guy is getting so much flak about this is that he turned something small into something big. someone didn't want to give him training, so what. so now he wants to join an opposing faction, work his ass off to get ridiculously overpowered as-sts and come back attack a base, where this guy probably wont be... hmmmm. you know last time i check theres just as many 'dumb imperials' as there are 'dumb rebels.'
