Thread: WTH are they thinking with Camo kits?

Maybe some of you are comfortable with the fact that Rangers, the people most attuned with nature, is apparently to dumb to recognize a berry or flower when he see's one but I for one am not. I just hate harvestors and would hate it even more if I have to set one up but it seems that things are heading that way. To use something unnatural like a harvestor to create something made out of natural elements like the camo kit just isn't appealing to me or seem right. I think it's stupid.

I think the cammo kits are a great idea... but...

Having yo have the exact ingredients FROM THAT PLANET is ridiculous.

There should have been ONE set of ingredients, with the ingredients able to be gathered form ANY planet. How are we supposed to go out and gather these thing on a planet like Endor.... IF WE CAN'T CAMMO OURSELVES to help GET the ingredients!

The ingredients should have been:

X amount of Meat
X amount of Hide
X amount ofBone
X amount of Wood
X amount of Fruit

The OQ level of the ingredient would then determine the quality of the Cammo Kit.

How the hell did the TC Rangers let the ingredient lists go live?

Idiots.

You guys aren't thinking of others professions.

What about the novice medic? Where are they supposed to get their resources.

Why does a DE need to survey? Or any smith?

We need metal for our traps.

I'm not saying that the above examples are justified.

Just as they tried to help medics with medical forage, why can't they allow us to forage for berries or wood or wheat? All they would have to do is add those as results for our normal forage.

I have to agree with DarthEric2 on this one. Does anyone have any idea how much crap we are going to have to carry around just to make sure we are covered in case the group we are in decides to go planet hopping? Am I really going to have to tell my group "give me 5 minutes to run home and get some domesticated meat so I can make some camo kits for our trip"? Who the heck is going to want to wait for me?

Actually I think this is going to be fun. Treasure hunting here I come. Glad I saved my survey skills.

"But just as medics all need to be surveyors and miners, I guess we need to be too."

- Yes, if you feel the need to be self-sufficient. It is the design goal of MMOG developers to"encourage" user interaction.

- Now you can be a Miner and harvest your own resources, or rely on the magic of the Bazaar, and use those skill points in a profession you would enjoy more

- I provide ALL the resources for my Medic companion. Using /medicalforage is too time-consuming, and it doesn't provide the specific resources that the higher level meds require.

- I have forsaken ever being a TK Master, in favor of being an Engineer. But I could just as easily purchase the resources off the bazaar with the coin I pull off dead gang members.

- Eventually, you'll find all the material you'll need on the bazaars of the respective planets. But for now we'll all have to make do with providing it ourselves.

Then why don't you become a test Ranger yourself next time? I think part of the problem is that we don't have many Rangers on TC.

Anyway.. I think what's bothering me more is that the Tatooine kits requires 30 of my precious Tatooinewooley hides which are popular sellers. Why couldn't it be leathery which in abundance on Tat?

Honestly I don't think that the requirements for finding the materials for the camo kit from the planet its for is fine, however I thing that we should at least be able to Forage the materials and say what item we are looking for. Kind of like the Flora Survey Device, but based on the Rangers skill and not needing a Device to do the surveying, but the mind/skill/knowledge that the Ranger possesses of the environment.

This would give use to the Foraging skill (possibly giving Scout experience or Survival or something so that Harvesting is not the only way to *Scout*) and would allow us to not be required to rely on a Non Nature based class to get nature based items. Metals and Polymers I have no problems buying from a Artisan because it is not in my expertiese to gather these materials. I know nothing of Mining or gathering Chemicals. What I do know about is wildlife, surviving in the wild, finding food or other natural items.

Anyway, thats my opinions on the matter

It would be nice to be able to forage the ingredients for camo kits, or at the very least, the flora, rather than having to rely on buying them from harvesters... After all, I thought foraging was scrounging around on the ground to find berries and leaves and pinecones and the like.

Being a master ranger, I did take an elite gun profession to be able to go out and actually kill things so I do not have to rely 100% on a group (that still, oddly enough, never has use for a ranger), and to be able to dish out at least part of the 1k dmg the monsters hit me for in any given round of combat.

With my novice medic and pharm 1 to use Stim B's, wonderful as they are - that leaves me with 1 entire skill point to my name.

Oh, and I lead a PA, so I have 1 lot left for a harvester.

Thus the mighty loner profession is now utterly dependent on others for over half of our skill tree. So much for self-sufficiency.

Give me a character transfer and I'll be happy to help test. If they think I'm gonna grind to Master there just to help them testing then they can shake it.

I would be very willing to even make a complete move there if only I could transfer this character there.

I am thinking very much about other peoples' professions. As a crafter of droids, weapons, armor, food, clothes or structures, my profession would be keyed off a tree that includes survey. Medical foraging is so awful that medical crafters nearly always invest in artisan. Rangers and smugglers have crafting, but not even the weak excuse of a resource foraging skill. Smugglers have combat skills and key off combat base classes. Rangers need to invest in combat for their trade. Some specialised professions require two base classes, which is costly. Ranger it seems now needs at least three - scout, marksman or brawler and artisan.

If they bugger up food foraging so that I pick up one unit of random garbage 90% of the time, I'll call it a nerf, not a benefit.

THe more I'm thinking about this, the more ridiculous it is.

We'd need to have 40... FOURTY... different ingredients to be able to make cammo kits for every planet. Which means HOURS AND HOURS of gathering materials, and crafting them. ALL AHEAD OF TIME. Because there is no viable way to get the materials once you arrive on a planet to make the kits.

Can't you just see it? You arrive on Endor with a few friends:

Player 1: "Hey, you're a Ranger, can you make cammo kits for us to use here?"

You: "Uh... well.. if you give me about an hour or so, I'll see IF i can get what we need.... uh then IF I'm lucky enough to get them, I'll have to sit and craft the kits... Oh, and since the cammi kit for Endor takes 4 items totally 110 resources.. it's gonna take a little while to craft them..."

Player 2: "Dude... you do that... we're going huning. LOL"

This is, as I said before, ridiculous.
