Thread: New Master Ranger! Most useless job ever.
Colemats,
100% agreement from me. I'm all about PVE, about 50% of the time I'm solo and about 30% of the time I'm with 1-2 friends, and the other 20% of the time I'm with a larger group. I enjoy exploring, hunting, visiting the POI's, and doing the special missions and so forth. So what profession do I choose? Ranger, duh, that's the class that was specifically made for such things right? I'm at 4-1-4-3 now and I've done no grinding. I just go out, hunt, and play. But like so many others, what I've discovered is that being a ranger actually makes you fairly lousy at PVE. Why? Because like you said, most of our skills aren't useful for PVE, and we spent so many skill points to get them that there aren't that many left over for other (more useful)things. I realized this pretty long ago but I'm fairly stubborn, and just recently I realized that since I'm already most of the way up the tree, I may as well stick with it and master ranger (for possible holocon reasons). But if the class isn't "fixed" by the time I get to master, I'll quickly drop it down to 0-0-4-0 (like everyone else) and pick up some additional combat abilities which actually *will* make me more useful at PVE, and allow me to have more "fun" (the word everyone likes to use).

That may make the devs require Ranged Support IV, but from what I've seen most people already have it (sorry melee profs).
Nope sorry. That doesn't work for me. I'm a Swordsman and there is no way I'm spending an extra 20+ skill points just to have Ranged Support IV.
Yeah, I know what you mean. I'd hate to have invested my time in any combat profession to later find out that I'd have to change it to keep what I already have in another profession. It's too bad there isn't a shared tree between brawlers and marksmen, but without some extra non-elite requirement, I can't see getting any extra combat bonuses, which we sorely need to become 'Ultimate Creature Hunters.'
