I was a Bounty Hunter for a long time, and had always been a Ranger dabbler for tracking. Well after growing bored of Bounty Hunter and Investigations I decided to Master Ranger since I liked the idea of it and already had the XP for Trapping IV. Two days later, I had mastered the profession and now I have dropped all but the Tracking line. I'm sorry guys but it is absolutly useless. Camo kits and being able to crawl fast are crap, I go hunting with large groups very often, and was keeping the entire party Camoed the whole time. They always just told me to stop and not bother. Camps; so I thought ok they don't want my Camo they'll love my High Tech Base Camps. So I'd plop one down in the Kimogila City or in the Krayt Graveyard or Fort Tuskan etc... Everytime someone in the group would just pull out a small house and everyone would go in there to heal Battle Fatigue leaving me alone in my giant tent. Traps; I thought these have gotta help right? Wrong first off as you all know, Rangers only get two new Traps both of which are kinda cool, but nothing to die for. Alas I tried anyways, only to have groups tell me "Don't bother man we can blind and bleed and set him on fire and our pet keeps him there just shoot him!" so again I was denied. The only usefull thing I've done is track Giant Dune Kimogilas, Krayt Dragons and Player Jedi. Please, explain to me why you all continue to do it?

It's fun if you make it fun. Right now, I have a great business going with a Master BE. I go to Endor and harvest Herb and Carn Meat for him and he pays VERY well for it. I'm also a Swordsman too... the Swordsman/Ranger combo kicks ass.

I agree... its all about what you want to do with it... normally i have no interest in doing groups outings, thats why i became a Ranger so i could do almost everything myself. I make a very good living hunting and harvesting, so no complaints from me yet.

but how many of your ranger abilities do you use while your hunting? when im hunting krayts i find it easier to drive around in my speeder than using area track. camps? only time i use a camp is if a group member or i need to pull out a pet or speeder, most of the time my group says dont bother with a big camp oh and +5 camping at master ranger?. ranger traps are useless and dont work most of the time. wayfaring... crawling really fast helps a lot...

only reason im hanging on to ranger is the future looks promissing

Yep, that's basically it for me too. I really like the idea of Rangers (in the vein of Aragorn or the Rangers in Babylon 5), so that's what initially drew me to them, but like most of the elite professions, I'm still waiting to become what my title says I should be. If and when we get the new camps, traps, and tracking ability, this will be a sweet profession and much more than just the bigger brothers of Scouts that we are now. But you're right about camo kits, they aren't worth much now and according to the dev response to the Top 5 Bug list (they completely ignored the Top 5 Issues list apparently), they soon won't work at all on NPCs, so I'm all for petitioning to scrap the wayfaring line and start from scratch with something useful like combat skills against creatures. That may make the devs require Ranged Support IV, but from what I've seen most people already have it (sorry melee profs).

Nope sorry. That doesn't work for me. I'm a Swordsman and there is no way I'm spending an extra 20+ skill points just to have Ranged Support IV.

It takes a special breed to stick to being a Ranger despite it's apparent uselessness.

I can understand how people can see Ranger being useless, but I'm sticking with it for as long as I can. I don't usually hunt in big groups I don't know. And the people I do know don't spend the resources to craft a house to heal for 5 minutes. Ive heard of it before, but in my groups the camps are useful.
Concealment is pretty handy as well. When Im leading my group around Endor, I don't want to have to worry about my group mates gettng agro because they don't have Scout. I can conceal those who can't maskscent and run right true all the aggressive spawns to my goal.
I use plenty of traps, dizzy, stun and blind are useful effects to inflict when you're a melee fighter, not to mention the wire mesh trap. Sure, you get that at novice scout, but it won't work on high level creatures unless you have ranger trapping skills.

I take pride in being a true Master Ranger the way I envisioned the class to be. I explore and hunt and am able to provide useful hunting advantages to a group. Someone I never met came to me for help because she wanted to tame a slice hound. I took her to a spot I know and tracked them down quite fast. My PA mates count on me for their hunting knowledge and needs and I can always help them out. That feels great, and is why I'm staying a Ranger. I hated dropping TK Master 3 days after mastering it, but it was that or Ranger, and that choice was quickly made.

If you check most of the other professions' forums in this game, they all say this exact same thing! I believe NOBODY has it as well-off as they like, and therein lies the beauty of this game! Its hard to make a living in the SWG universe as itSHOULD be!

I find that ranger is mostly what you make of it (just like Squad Leader as that is my experience). The best Rangers I have seen are in fact true to the title. Sure, they may never use camo kits, and may only just use pdarts(exclusively), but! I appreciate it when they set up a master-high-tech field base. They just look cool. And they can lead a group fairly well as far as Ive seen. When you can say that a Ranger is acting like a Ranger would (like Aragorn, etc.), then you know heor she ishaving fun with it, and THAT is what counts in my opinion.

I must say, even I have been wavering (and trust me, it takes a LOT for me to give up Master Ranger title). With the "Great Camo Nerf" I may be dropping that line and the trapping line to make room for moreCH. I don't want to give up master but it is actually hurting me more then helping with hunts atm. I'm not giving it up tho (you kidding? I am getting rich off the extra harvest ) but if a tree goes useless, like the camo tree just did, I need tools to compensate.

*sigh* need edit button...

Not giving up ment not giving up on Ranger completely, it'sthe Master title I don't see a point to... just to clarify. It not worth sacrificing other skills that are more helpfull.

I understood what you meant reading your first post Fred I will likely be considering dropping portions too in coming months because I enjoy playing on my main server with friends too much to avoid playing there...

The only thing I use lately has been our slightly enhanced harvesting skills. Its a shame that is all we have become in recent months, surely the devs will realize this as soon as they are done tweaking combat... then chef... then smuggler... then the space expansion... then whatever else... Honestly I tire of waiting while they keep pushing us and several other classes off longer and longer. We don't even have what was promised in August for Pete's sake.
