To the Creature Handlers, I think you're nuts. For the longest time your class was the end-all be-all of overpowered. I've known CH's that would solo on Dathomir, butas a Master Ranger I can't expect to go to the back woods of Naboo and take down a BolleBol lair by myself.

Gotta call you on that one - CH hasn't been overpowered since the CL70 patch - sure they could TANK better than anything, but let a pet sit there chewing on a Rancor and see how long it lasts without you firing at the target or healing the pet constantly. And then guess what - those are medic and marksman skills, not CH skills!

As a TKA I can beat the living hell out of anything weaker than an Albatross, so don't tell me CH was ever overpowered =)

Hmm, I seem to remember the days of the triple rancor MCHs. That was overpowered (especially given the weapons you could get back then). I also seem to remember the power of 2 graul maulers before they got nerfed (3 if you had them at the right age). Even now a CL 70 BE pet can be quite nice (and have you seen the "tamable: yes" on the frenzied grauls? Light armor, 65% kinetic resist, AoE specials). I would actually say thatCH is probably in a quite good state now (especially when you consider that pets can get buffs). Yes there are bugs. Yes there are downsides. But professions are meant to have downsides. Maybe pets can't do as much damage as arifleman or take as much damage as a TKM. But their master can be a TKM or Master Rifleman as well. Even with Master Ranger/Master CH there are enough skill points left for a bit of an elite combat profession. And that gives you a lot of power.

As for the harvesting idea, the implementation sounds fine. The problem comes because any sort of static harvester devalues the skills of a Ranger. Yes, it might only be hides. But hides are one of the biggest sources of income for a Ranger. Bones almost never come into play and meat alone can be quite limiting. This sort of proposal essentially removes the need to gather hides. As soon as you put this in, though, BEs will be fighting for the ability to make meat. And then we end up with nothing (as we can't really turn down the BEs after accepting it from the CHs). Some of the above posts are a bit harsh. But we have seen this type of proposal a bit too often lately.

Totally off-topic, but I think it speaks to the maturity of Ranger forum-goers that this post hasn't been 1-starred =)

Sorry, I guess I have to point out if we are not "harvesters" then there is no way you are handlers. One per barn period. If it was not specifiacally stated: the Darted Creature would somehow go to the Rangers Datapad for resale to CH. That was the offsetting interdependency.

Never said you wern't harvesters, only said you were basic harvesters, which id like to add is true.

I dont want to handle creatures (unless they are dead), i want to hunt them and harvest them.

I get your point though... you want rangers(suposedly the ultimate harvesters) having to work for our harvests,WHILST YOU just sit back and pay a few creds in maintenance? You are basic harvesters, why should you have tools to help you harvest better and easier? Surely this should be the domain of the ultimate hunter.

THEN in return for youtaking overthe ultimateharvester crownyou give usA **edit**ING DART?

Ok this is my solution:

  • Keep you **edit**ing handling skills and your god damn dart and come back when you have an idea that doesnt screw ranger in the ass.

This idea is truley insulting. A well thought out idea would have been given more thought on how they would effect others and would deserve contructive feedback but this clearly enhances your profession at an extreme cost to another.

I wouldnt mind a barn or stable thingso you could grow andcreate new baby animals (animal breading etc) but dont step into the harvesting arena any more than you are, its not you place to do so, theres a que, get in line.

Sorry for this flame, its not a common thing for me, but............. bah

I will reiterate here what i stated on the CH forum:

1) If we don't present a united front the Dev{il}s will not do anything to help either of our professions.

2) If we are not willing to give a little we won't get anything. I am willing to give up taming or better yet give Rangers the ability to trap adult creatures with their traps and release them into a "corral project"

3) The meat process that would come out of the "corral" project would always be the most inferior grade, than what a Ranger or scout can harvest out in the wild. The purpose being once you could harvest meat and your animals are gone. Shearing as in shearing sheep would only occur on animals with wooly hides (only makes sense).

4) What we have is two broken and nerfed profession fighting over a scrap when, if, we worked together we could have to partially fixed professions working TOGETHER to make life better for us all. But if you don't have the vision for that, fine, game play will continue to decline and we will continue to see a mass exodus of people.

5) We all have to share the pie or we will all die. Can you get past the I and ME, them to the idea of US, together, joint workers?

Lastly we don't need any flames in the CH forum, constructive ideas, yes. Flames, keep them for yourself or for the Devs or for TH.

Thanks for at least trying to listen and understand what we are proposing, an idea that will give us all a little viability.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

We have two useful skills at the moment..tracking and harvesting. Tracking is marignal at best and havesting works fine (except for the low rates of harvest). If we give you harvesting, will you be willing to give us the ability to wield CH pets?

Also, on your comments about low quality harvests...when it comes shearing, if you get low OQ, it doesn't affect Tailors, so you are still on par with Rangers and when it comes to AS, they will buy the high OQ/SR stuff, so they will come to us (if your qualities are indeed lower). This would be applicalbe to all those Prfs that worry about stats. If they are still going to come to us, how would this idea benefit you in a way that does not nerf us?

The farms can't produce lower quality resources. They can only produce the current shift, and in fact I rather expect they'd produce the resource type according to the planet the farm is on and not the planet the creature hails from. (For example, the Veermok in the Nym mission caves on Lok drops Lokian, not Nabooian, resources.)

For a lengthy explaination of why this is so, look at the current thread on curing and tanning.

This proposal offers us absolutely nothing. It's not even in the best interests of the game as a whole. Put a sock in it.

  • Interchangeable Modules- You should be able to buy different modules from archetects and insert them into your structures, but only 1 module at a time. Such as a Milking Module, Sheering Module, Meat "Processing" Module(Looks around for PETA), and a Birthing Module.

  • Milking Module-Should extract milk from a creature at a constant rate, more Milkable animals causes increase in milking rate. Since the Milk is being taken in a contolled and cleanenviroment it should get a stat increase, say 10%. Only 1 type of milk can be taken at a time. Now here is an idea that I have two different views on.

  1. Only an animal native on the planet in which the structure is on can be milked there.
  2. Animals taken from their home planet will produce inferior Milk.

Now I base the above two points on that fact that when animals are uncomrtable they produce inferior or no milk at all. and just think how an animal taken from the rich plains of Corvella would feel in the harsh deserts of Tatooine

  • Sheering Module-Being able to gain hides, now seeing how an animals comfort doesn't change its hide you should be able to extract any "hide" from any animals. A radical departure from this is that the structure should consume the animal but lets say you get twice as much hide as a master Ranger would get. Now I wil adress the issue of consumming animals in the birthing module.

  • Meat Processing Module-Same as sheering Module.

  • Birthing Module-Nowthat your animals keep being consumed why not create your own re-newbale stock. So why dont you create you own new herd. Of course this woul be a slow proccess but by adjusting the rate at which the aniamls are consumed and birthed you should be able to find a homeostasis. But I have a sub idea:

  1. How about selective breeding, why should Bio-Engineer's be the only ones to play god, I know it would be a pain to code but hwo about with we join a female Bio-Enineered Kaduu with a Male Natural Kaduu they can produce a Animal somewhere in Between.

  • And finally since this is the short version of my post, I was considering special events in the the structuressuch, as one day you go into your structure and get a messageyour animals are sick, so what do you do, you buy medicine from a doctor and buy Tranquilizers from a Bio-Engineer and go about healing your pets.
  • Or you get a messae the baby has died durring child birth, or as soon as you walk in you get th e Message It's a Boy! It's a Girl!.

These are just some of my view and I realize that not all of them can be implemented .

I came across this in the CH version of this unholy thread.

I like the idea of interchangable modules, however the only one i would back for publishing would be the birthing module so basically modules would be redundant because there would be only one module

The other 3 are added slaps to the faces of all rangers and scouts out there. Hides, Meats and Milk auto harvesting. tut tut.

At a push and some additions i could agree with the milking auto-harvesting however hides and meats and bang out of order.

Have a close look at the sheering module. I just wanted to point out that they want to get twice as much as a Master Ranger off a creature when it gets killed. That alone tells me a bit about the rest of the proposal and their attitude towards it. I was happy as an MCH even after all the nerfs. The profession does exactly what it is meant to. If they fix the bugs (most of them new) then I'd say CH is one of the few professions that works as intended. They want extra power. That's what the extra 144 skill points they get are for. Our entire skill tree is not as useful as one CL 50 pet. I also love all the "former Master Rangers" in that thread complaining how useless MCH is. And yet they kept MCH.

I would love to capture high level creature babies and sell them. Ranger is the perfect class for it.

I like to see the farms for non-aggressive creatures only. This could put us on the track as hunters for rare resources from those dangerous creatures (Rancors, etc). If it's give and take, I'd give some harvesting to BE/CH on farms if we get way better ability on + dmg to creatures.

Hello,

It is evident from the response of the Ranger community that you are not interested in helping or contributing to this project.

I did not say "take away harvesting from you" but since it is the only bone you have and you are guarding like crazy we have dropped that from our project.

What we were willing and desiring to give you was the ability to trap "ADULT" animals of every kind. Which we can't do.

Sorry that you are unable to see past the harvest bone and see the larger picture. I believe from this point on we are going to continue working on this with BE's and others. Unfortunately the Ranger community has made it's feelings quite well known and we will respect your desire for us to leave your playground alone. Best wishes in your profession where ever it may lead you.

....and then no matter how hard we get nerfed, we still keep CH because we are still some of the coolest characters on the game.

Umm, no offence here but I'd say a big part of your profession is using the pets. And making it so that we can trap adults isn't all that special. Finding a rare baby is one thing. Finding a similar adult is no problem at all. Also, what do we get from trapping adults? No offence but trapping adults is a lot less of a bonus than you seem to make it. And what do you get in exchange? You corner the very lucrative organics market. No Ranger would stand a chance of keeping up. So we get the ability to fill up our datapads in exchange for making CHs rich? I think I'm really starting to like this idea...

If you want to get organic resources, why not just go out and hunt them? Is it really too much to ask that you use the scout skills you have? Some of us enjoy going out and hunting. Why do you seem to be so intent on killing that? There is NOTHING stopping a CH from supplying organic resources in the current system. If you master a combat profession (EDIT: or happen tohave Commando Flame 4...), you will easily outharvest a Master Ranger (at least currently). If you want to supply organic resources, then I'm all for it. If you want to take away my reason to hunt, I will fight you for it. If there is an easy way to get organics (like your system is trying to implement) then there is almost no reason to hunt them down. I can't see why this is so hard to comprehend. There is more to this than just harvesting. You are trying to take away our ability to support ourselves on JUST hunting. The system in its proposed form would either have to be useless or it would kill our ability to sell resources. And I'm pretty sure you are not trying to make the system useless.
