I knew that ranger would keep my attention the longest. I love the variety. Most professions never see every corner of this game, much less all of the planets even. We get that opportunity.

hrmm just curious but spoken with a few riflemen on scylla about the use of ranged support and while some thought it worked out great others thought it could be inproved, any idea with ranger?

I think Ranged Support is a waste of skillpoints with any Elite Ranged profession. Most critters should be dead before you need to use the Ranged Support skills... and with creatures, us Rangers can use our Scout traps to better effect!

I decided on Ranger as soon as they put up the list of professions on the pre release forums.

Ok, after a day setting up my account (I've been playing 7 months, just never wanted to post before!).. I just wanted to say Hi! And that I LOVE Rangering! I went for Ranger after 3 months as smuggler/pistoleer and was bored of standing in cities slicing things, I wanted to see the sights.
And wow, have I! I have seen more of this game in the past 2 weeks than the previous half a year. And now, from the inspiration of this forum, I have taken to hunting unbuffed.. and yes, un-armoured too! Oh the freedom!
I slip out of my sassy small top and revealing dress (hey it's obligatory when you're in Bad Girls 8-) ), put on my camos and go play with nature and it is THE most fun I have had. And NOW people want to give me money to harvest for them too? That can't be right, surely? Money, fun, fresh air (saves leaving the house in RL I reckon!) and the hallowed tag of Master Ranger. What more could a girl ask for?
I traded pistols for half rifles, half CH (I have a VERY cute cat who tags along and gives me someone to talk to... I fear Rangers can go mad if they are alone in the wilds too long!) and that all important Ranged Support 3 warning shot when it all goes the way of the pear!
I am late to Rangering in the scale of things.. but I'm here to stay.
And you guys (and gals) have THE nicest forum too!
Ok, I'm done whaffling.. back to thoseugly Yavinanglers I guess.

I started my toon as a Scout. And had a hard time staying alive in the begining as a direct result of that.
And since i was brand spanking new to this game, i didnt really know what skillpoints where, so i dropped scout (!!)
to pickup some combat skills so i could stay alive. I missed the ability to harvest from the creatures i eventually
managed to take down, and then i learned that i could have both Scout AND combat. WOW!!
I harvested like a madman, eventually my inventory got full, and i filled the bazaar in AH with resources.
Prices where low as heck, becuase i had no clue that i could actually make money on my harvesting.
I saved bone and hide, so i could make camps and traps, and lived happily like that.
Eventually i toyed a bit with the idea of picking up Novice Ranger, and since that day, i have been a happy toon
Eventually people contacted me with nice prices on the stuff i harvested, money came rolling into my bank,
i realised i could see just about anything you need to know about a creature from examine. I helped out a new CH
with Taming, because i could see what level the creatures where, i could track down the creatures he wanted badly.
I could help people on their way up to the proffesion they wanted, i could help people keep their proffesion alive,
i got to spend much time teaching new players what i missed badly on in the beginning, and so on...
But most important of all, it was (and it still is) FUN!

And i have to agree with the guy posting above me (Forgot the name from the time i pressed Edit and til now
),
this Forum must be just about the best forum on the swg boards.

Oh, and Dureena, join the RIN channel

Well im not a ranger yet last box of camping still to to master scout, but having played since feb of 04, ive allways had scout of varing degrees, i was the one who introduced fishing to my guild(7 real life friends who live near each other and all joined about the same time and are still here
, started of a rifleman / armoursmith and used to keep myself in the hides and stuff i needed, rember hunting my first kaddu on naboo and getting hurt bad, then as i progressed maimens on yavin 4 this was allways a hoot, but then i love the engine of the game and regularly decide to walk or ride my mount some place corronet to doba etc, ive been most combat profs, master pikes was a blast and recently just dropped master bounty hunter, the atmosphere was terrible and pvp no matter how many times i try it just dosnt feel right, this from a bloke who cut his online teeth with quake2, so i looked at skil tree and found the hole of the game id missed and allways liked scout, so i thought why not go for it whole hog and see what ranger holds, and reget my original and fondest combat back to compliment rifles, allways liked them, takes skill to use them to best effect and makes you feel a bit more involved in the game i feel.

It took me all of about 5 seconds. I saw rifleman, I saw Ranger...I was like-- dude, I'm gonna be the devishly handsome dude who lives in the woods. Then, I became a Bothan (Best.Decision.Ever.) and so now I'm the drunk, devishly handsome llama who lives in the woods and kills gobs of critters.
The lifestyle always appealed to me, and while I kinda also like the idea of being a rogue (Smuggler-like person) there simply isn't enough points to master SMuggler, Ranger and a combat profession. So I had to split my personality. 9/10ths of my personality is in my main toon (Ranger). While I also do have a Smuggler/Pistoleer.
But Ranger is now, has been, and always will be where my heart is.

RIN (Resource/Ranger Information Network) is the most commonly used name for a chat channel that is created by players to share information about resources. However, different servers use different names. If you look through the list of chat channels you might find a RIN, or a Rangers channel. If there is no channel existing than you can create it if you want.
For it to work you have to really promote it and use it, make sure the customers know about it as well as the Rangers on your server. When I did resource hunting I often found that the Docs would know where the best avian was before I did. It was a useful tool for asking what is good in shift and who is putting out contracts for what.
On the topic of who knew - I didn't.
I was planning to be a Creature Handler. In my newbie ignorance I though that once you took a profession you had to Master it, so I mastered Scout and Marksman and ALMOST mastered Artisan, Entertainer and Medic before I got my first elite box.
(I blame the Bounty Hunters I was leveling with - I just naturally assumed that since they were mastering every weapon that that is what you did.) I got Novice CH first... and then, before I knew it, I had enough to Master Scout and was set on Ranger. I mastered Ranger long before finishing CH.
