Any true Ranger that found him/herself on the Titanic would have started from a position of assuming something was about to go wrong, finding as much useful stuff they could pack into a pillowcase (rucksacks would have spoiled the line of their suit, don't ya know) and been among the first to get to the davits and the last to get in a boat.

If there wasn't a boat, we'd just grab some deckchairs, a table, couple of lamps and a table cloth, cunningly craft a small yacht from it and sail off saying "now, don't you wish you'd invested ALL the skill points now???"

Got me thinking now, what SWG profs would have done what on the Titanic...

Well, obv. jedi and BH would have stormed the bridge then had a cat fight as to how broke the ship WAS and why the captain should be fixing it with more BH or more jedi berths.

The entire entertainer tree, with the exception of MIDs, would be in the ballroom AFK..

Commando would be trying to melt the iceberg with their flamethrowers and screaming about how little damage they were doing.

The CH would be off on the ice looking for baby polar bears

and the Dev's would be sat in harbour saying 'well, it worked fine in test....'

I am beyond negativity towards this game..I am squarely in the midst of apathy now. I dont really give a damn anymore what SOE does

SOE will do what SOE wants, and no amout of reasoning will change that and the effort required to browbeat them into changing course is no longer worth the energy.

Ultimately I see my money being better spent with a different gaming company.

Just give it some more time....

I love my ranger...always have...

atleast people can't call for a nerf on your profession because it is overpowered right?

We will see more things in terms for ranger but I can't accept this negative attitude...

Or.. you can do what I did, continued a character I made years ago on another server to become a dancer. Interesting life compared to my normal Rangering one.. heh, gives ya something to experience that isn't really borked or all that annoying.

Meanwhile I wait for my guild to return from their sudden disappearance before heading back to play with the ole' ranger.

The bottom line is that there is just no place or need for Rangers anymore in this game. The developers timelines don't support any reason or justification to fix us Ever. From a dev point of view they are better off merging us with SL and deleting Ranger or deleting Ranger altogether. A few us us will miss it but the game won't and the in game economy will not even blink or notice our absence. That is my realization of this profession and why I have finally respec'd out of it.

I believe that if SOE analyzed the cost to Fix Ranger vice the cost to delete Ranger and the net effect it would have on subscriptions the choice would be clear.

Again am tempted to agree, in part.

I remember way back when I first started ingame there was a huge rant on the Ent forum (yah, whats changed) about 'why should there be hairdressers in SW, after all you never saw Leia under a dryer' etc. and somebody pointed out that all those characters in the background needed to get their hair done somewhere.

Well, that's us. We're the characters in the background and the folk that supply them with the raw materials to make their stuff from. Because we happen to have weapon skills (noticably outside our creature-centred skill base) we also get to help out in a fight from time to time. We're not especially good at it, we're not overly powerful at it, but somebody has to play the role of cannon fodder.

If it weren't for the folk in the background we'd have a cast of maybe twelve main characters, some generic 'spear carriers' and a much narrower range of experience and interest in the game. Unfortunately, just like in the movies, the folk in the background get a lot less attention than the hero types up front.

And it's a lot easier to fire an extra than a supporting actor, let alone even think of firing one of the stars.

More than pessimist we must be realist . The new expansion is geared toward jedi players which is now , due to multiple gameplay and game design errors, becoming the main player population. They cant bypass the fact that if they dont feed them they will lost them and they would not probably financialy survive in the mid term.

High level content (translate: jedi content) will be the rule in the future and this content must be maintained and (bug) fixed. Which is an enormous task , a lot ofdev time consuming and the dev teams are not expanding as fast and large as the code they write. There will be less and less time to fix the basic content and it will probably take more and more time to fix the professions we know as the less played profession. Some of them are broken since the begining , do you understand ?? since 2 years... dont expect much than the actual situation, that is , nothing.

As some of you say in this post, play as you like and if one day you log and have no more fun with this game then , push the cancel button.

crual but realist.

One interesting question couldbe however, is there a need for a ranger player correspondant now ? i thing that devs have all the materials and answers they need now in this forum and they dont need , at this point , a correspondant anymore, unless they give us a sign that we could expect in a near (or even far) future, perhaps not a true revamp but , at least , some more consideration.

sorry for my bad english.

Have fun.

Id have to agree that if all rangers disappeared tomorrow the game economy wouldn't even blink. Id also have to agree that the short term investment of developer attention is probably best served monitarily by deleting ranger. However, I do not believe that the long term costs are truly taken into account, and perhaps that is why Ive stuck with it. Yes the developers will continue to put a lot of time and energy into jedi/bh issues, but focussing on those is problematic in the long term, because you end up creating a one trick pony.... all you are left with in the end is a continuously running server of KOTOR online and the only real content will be pvp between jedi. Obviously this is not in the best long term interests of the game. If they want the game to succeed over the long term they must develop the other professions to be a source of interest and players. The CH change is a good positive first step, people are already starting to flock to the new CH standard, even while it was hard to accept from the vets perspective, Im sure they can all see how it is healthy in the long term. The same must hold true for everyone else as well.... most especially professions that are not "pure" combat, commando's, squad leaders, rangers, smugglers, etc... All must be able to find a role and have that role developed if the game is to remain healthy in the long term.

Hmmm, unannounced revamps, breaking revamps into a loosely stated "timeframe," a new expansion? What? Other professions getting revamps that weren't on the broken schedule in the first place. Then a "bug fixes come first" right before the SL announcement, nothing announced for us, things taken away from us in the process, Owen leaving marking the first time in a long while that a Dev posted here.

Come on, show me some evidence on this not marking a "sorry but we don't have enough time to schedule anything good for the Ranger profession, but you may get something bad in the near future" point in our profession.

Well...given Serraphin's post regarding the upcoming 3rd installment of the Droid Engineer revamp, I'd have to say no. This is really starting to rot worse than bantha pudu.
