Thread: Poll: The Ranger Profession
- are you content with what you have but still want to see more added in the future?
No I am not fully content with whatI have. I am only content with tracking and concealing, the other two trees are utterly useless to me at the moment.
- are you disapointed and feel you waisted your time training this profession?
I am disappointed but I do not feel I wasted my time with this profession. There is alot that can be done to make this profession more than worth the time I put into it.
- do you feel you are an importaint element to the SW Galaxy or do you feel usless?
I feel mostly useless. Sure I can apply my conceal kits to the group healers, but for the most part they don't even need my tracking ability, camps, or traps.
Are Rangers happy with the current state of your profession?
absolutely. Best decisions I ever made. Like I've posted before, this is a proffesion where role-playing and good people skills are truly valuable. I've never been part of a proffesion like this and I'm happy with the community- it's one of the tightest knit ones around.
- are you content with what you have but still want to see more added in the future?
i am content with what I have, but only because I've been promised more in the future. I am a low-level Ranger but I can already see where others would have some issues with our current skills. I would like to see us having a greater role in PvP. I agree that we are guerilla fighters and I think it would be possible to add a to-hit bonus to Rangers when they are outside of a city. This would give us more reason to be "wilderness experts". I agree that traps should be useable on CH pets, and I think that this applies to scout traps as well. Where Rangers should differentiate from scouts in terms of traps is- Rangers should be able to use traps on NPC's and other players. Rangers study animals, no? Humanoids are simply more advanced animals, and our ability to trap animals should reflect that as well. All in all though, it's still a great proffesion.
- are you disapointed and feel you waisted your time training this profession?
absolutely not. Take a look at a screenshot that only rangers can get (such as right next to a rancor without being aggro'd) and that's all you should need to fall in love with the Rangers. As I've said before Rangers are the wilderness poet warriors. I wish they had a journal, as a craftable item, that could be used to record your thoughts on different areas- tradeable items that Rangers could share with each other. Hey, a lot of times, I've got nothing better to do when camping or fishing. That would be just plain cool.
- do you feel you are an importaint element to the SW Galaxy or do you feel usless?
I feel I'm important to me. As a person who often enjoys the pleasure of hunting solo, Ranger gives me the skills to survive. however, like many other Rangers, I would love to participate in the GCW as more than a person who knows when attackers are coming, and from which direction. I think that Rangers are one of the few Elite non-artisan proffesions that don't contribute much to the actual combat of PvP (belive me I'm not belittling the artisans, I'm just saying that many of you don't FIGHT, though your weapons/armor/clothes are invaluable to others---but a house never killed an Imperial, hehe) I would like Ranger-unique abilities to serve a role in base assaults- such as Rangers being able to bypass turrets, etc. with the use of cammoflage, or perhaps an ability to disable/immobize/disrupt defenses of a base.
My final comment is that I love being Ranger and I WILL NOT drop it. I would like to see improvements, but the gameplay is still a LOT of fun as is. I also have to add that Test Center needsRangers in the worst way, so please come to a galaxy so poor you can come in through the front login server and fall out the back. We REALLY need people who can survive out in the wild. Any TC players, get in contact with me- Phenix or Armani Stargazer...brothers extraordinaire.
Well, Im only 3141 so I dont have the full "view" of Ranger. I sort of like Ranger, but I must say I feel pretty useless, setting up camps can be achieved allmost as good by any scout. The only time I felt really usefull as a Ranger was the other day when I was in a group of rebels doing som "urban warfare" against a sudden invation of stormtroopers. I did areatracks for npcs and after a while, I could declare victory for the rebels when there where no more stormies in town ![]()
I'm not dissapointed as of yet, but I fell I may become that in the future if I dont become a more usefull character with my Ranger skills... I agree that there are very few unique skills we have.
What I want:
Make tracking a lot more advanced. If you have a thing like /track person.<insert name> that works within say 3-5 kilometers (maybe this is more of a Bounty hunter thing?). A ranger should be able to go out in the field and find for example a group of imperials getting ready to attack a rebel base. The ranger (If master) can use a "super-conceal" that makes him invisible to the imperials (/conceal faction.imperial) outside a certain range, maybe 60-70 meters, if he gets inside that, they can spot him. He can then report to the rebels at the base and track the imperial movements if neccescary.
I think the range for all the areatracks should be extended. It should be possible to have a special map that only rangers get that shows the results of the track, instead of the box that you get now. A master Ranger should be able to /areatrack as he walks/runs. I allso wish the interface for /areatrack was a bit "faster", if you are tracking something on the move, getting the track running and selecting the right targets could take to much time and you may lose them.
I find it very strange whenI /conceal then lie down in the grass 50 meters from a humbaba and shoot at it, that it after a short while comes rushing towards me without the camo ever breaking. Where is the logic???
Since im only level I at trapping, I dont have any ranger traps, but it seems to me that they are not really any more powerfull than the bestscout traps, only different. There should be at least one newtrap at each level of trapping.
I agree that harvesting corpses are boring, and it takes a lot of time to get enough hide/bone/meat to have quantities that annyone will buy. Even then, when you have harvested 10k ofgood qualitywooly hide (which takes an age, maybe even two), people still dont really pay to well for it... I think 50k is the general payment for such an ammount... Harvesting should be boosted to make it worthwhile to do the effort of harvesting what you kill. Fortunately for me, I have a side-business of running various harvestors that earns me enough money to do and buy (mostly) what I want. Why doesnt Rangers and scouts have any abilities to sample/harvest flora and water in their own respect? That seems obvious to me...
In short, what I want is haveing a lot of our skills beefed up. I want to feel that a Master Ranger is someone who can walk into any forest or desert and know that he will not be attacked by any creatures (or NPC's to a certain degree). He can spy on his enemy with little fear of being detected and will be a great asset to any hunting group, especially on the high-level planets.
- are you content with what you have but still want to see more added inteh future?
Like everybody, I am looking forward to more toys to play with and a little bit of an edge to my skills, but in taking me almost 4 months to get to Master (made it very recently, Yeay me!) I wasn't in that area of expertise when the big add on took place. I like the skills and abilities. I'm sorry, but I LIKE eye candy *g*. Tracking is nice. I use mostly scouting traps still, but they do the job. They just work a lot better than they did when I was scout. ANd camo? Oh boy is that a help. So I like the current stuff. Would like more, but I learned patience feom this class, and I will wait contented with what I have for now.
- are you disapointed and feel you waisted your time training this profession?
Not at all. The sheer game play that is required for the profession is rather intensive and time consuming. It exposed me to the amount of work and effort the designers put into their world designs. I swear, some of the areas of these worlds are true labors of love. I get to appreciate it because ... well ... I am the only one there. This wasn't a waste of time, but I didn't take the job to get some ideal skill set that would make me "Uber" or whatever. I wanted to be a Ranger. I wanted that title and that association. So for me it isn't about the stuff I get, it's about the journey there. And my journey to Master Ranger was long, time consuming .... and wonderful. That experience alone didn't make it a waste.
- do you feel you are an importaint element to the SW Galaxy or do you feel usless?
This is a dificult thing to answer objectively, so I won't even bother. Am I an important element? No ... no I am not ... move along ... (slips classified disks back into his pocket) ... nothing to see here. Of course I am an important addition. Is my Ragner class what makes me important? No.
But the real question , is the Ranger class an important addition? I think so, yes. After all, someone will have to keep the Jedi alive. A very good support piece. Not a bad deal with weapon skills, and no resources are out of reach if you are artisan inclined.
I think that it boils down to a game playing aspect. Those that want things that make them more powerful in PvE or PvP are often disappointed by the ranger class, at least from those I have seen. On the other hand, those that enjoy a more in-the-moment or more RP style game play, they don't select classes soley on skill sets. They became Rangers for their own reasons. It depends on what you are after. Want Uber? I don't advise the Ragner class. Want one hell of a game playing experience and endlessrp material, a collection of excellent moments more than just kill target #24356937? Ranger is better than anything I have seen.
