Thread: Hmmm... Did I do the right thing?
See, this is what kills me (no, actually Gaping Spiders are what kills me but that's another story...), and this is why rangers stink at hunting. You spend SO many skill points to become a ranger, and sink more into the ranger tree, and at the end of the day, your ability to hunt is not dependent only any of that, it's your combat and medic skills that are what's important. You can congratulate yourself that you can harvest 20% more meat per harvest, but since you're only able to kill 50% of what you'd kill if you'd sunk those skill points you put into ranger, into combat, you end up witha big net loss. That's why it's really hard to say with a straight face that it's "worth it" to become a ranger unless you're just doing it for RP reasons or hologrinding or simply have extra skill points to burn.

This is why I originally formed AR on Eclipse. You can get half of a battle template, find a guy with the other half. I just collected and delivered120k bone order a few nights ago. Offer the guys you hunt with one or 2 credits less then you sell to the merchant and sell the whole thing in one huge stack. Trust me, seldom can you harvest enough alone. The more peeps in your group, the bigger the stack and higher firepower. The trick of it is organizing.
After a while you can develop a core of seasoned hunters that work like a well-oiled machine. You just have to work at it. In time youwill allcrack your first million and on to many, many more. Bit more labor intensive then Weaponsmith but much more fun imho.

I thought trapping at master Ranger would be really cool. I mean by successfully trapping very high level monsters with awesome traps, but it sounds like that's not the case. Area track sounds bugged and not too useful. And apparently camps aren't as valued as I thought they were.

As I have told many of my friends.....You dont chooose be a Ranger, the Ranger profession chooses you. Not everyone is cutout to be a Ranger as our profession is quite broken and our skillsets arent as useful as they once were. We have no "Cool Toys" and are mostly loners who enjoy the company of other Rangers. We are a close knit group (or used to be until the Holo craze) and most that try Ranger as a profession do not stay long as it is a "Waste of Time and Points" to them. Thos are the ones that chose Ranger versus being one with it. You can read these boards all year and though each person has their own views and desires for the profession, only you can decide if Ranger is right for you. It isnt something you know...it is something you feel as you reach deep down into the depths of yourself and find out what you are made of.
The group I run with on Shadowfire are what make the spirit of the Ranger profession what it is. Yes they are all Rangers. If you want to know what being a Ranger is and how it feels to be in the present of beautiful thing.....come hang out with us for a weekend. If you dont feel the calling after that, then Ranger isnt for you.

We still are...
Those who remain enter the hamlet,take up residence, get to know their neighbors,mingle, and keep the community tidy are the true members. 
We do have a lot of tourists nowadays, but they are simply stopping making a pitstop on their journey on the Jedi superhighway. 
Sadly, the state government isn't keeping up its part of the maintenance, and the town is looking a little shoddy compared to one's down the road. Hopefully the engineering crew will be coming down our way soon and help out. 
Rori wooly is selling for 50cpu on Starsider right now!! I picked a fine time to holo-grind 
I was waiting for Rori to have a good wooly shift because I love killing torturs. Taking down big creatures is always so fun with TKA.

I play with my ranger tag on. I've gotten a total of 1 tell asking for organics in like 4 months of gameplay. That's not to say I can't sell what I harvest, but people don't exactly beat down your door or seek you out. 99.9% of the tells you get as a ranger are from other rangers asking for free training.
Man.. there is something really really wrong with you or what you are doing. People DO beat my door down for resources... and I get email.. tells and PM's all the time for resources and tracking on Flurry. That's MY 99% of the time. I get almost NO "Please train me" tells because there just aren't a whole lot of people doing Ranger.
Tell you what jawajoey2 (now no offense to the Ahazi clan) but start your character on Eclipse and we will show you the fun of the broken profession. We can always use a good hand to help us out.
Really like all have said it is a state of mind and desire to follow the mythical ranger idea. If you really want to play a ranger go for it, because by the time you are master it is possible that we will have a very fine profession. It is all on a matter of how you play.
On Eclipse we are constantly getting requests for organic harvests. Especially with camps leaving as a necessary evil for calling vehicles and animals there will be even less harvesters. We are here to have fun and live as a community. Frederick hit it directly on the head. Our hunts are great.
So my advice is look for Rangers on Ahazi particularly an Antarian Ranger chapter and enjoy their company. Or since you are still so new start a character on Eclipse and seek us out. We would love to help you along your journey.
