Any way we could convince the Devs to give us back the Hunt Master tag? I miss the Hunt Master tag. And it would get rid of all the Trackers.

In all seriousness, though, is there any way of getting the old title back? I know that a lot of Rangers preferred Hunt Master to Tracker (I seem to remember it being the Bounty Hunters who were taking the tracking tree for tracking that really fought for that change). Tracker is not a bad title but Hunt Master was so much better.

Here's the reason I love my "Tracker" title.

I kind of like to think of myself as a Ranger sort of like Aragon in the LOTR Trilogy. In one of the films, for the life of me I can't remember which one, he used some amazing tracking skills to track down where Merry and Pippin went after they escaped from the enemy. He was checking for things like broken blades of grass and tree branches. Having that sort of ability would make someone the ultimate hunter/outdoorsman, as you don't need anything other than your own wits and training to get yourself wherever you need to go, and to find whatever you need to find.

wow, that was a great last sentence. That sentence clearly defines exactly what being a Ranger is to me:

Yeah, but Aragorn was Hunting the orcs in the Two Towers. He was a master of hunting, not just tracking. Calling Aragorn a Tracker is like calling the Millenium Falcon a freighter. Yes, it's true but it doesn't properly cover his skills. The same is true of the Tracking line. Yes, tracking is the most prominent of the skills there. But we also get better creature knowledge, better harvesting ability, and a creature to hit bonus. Currently, tracking is the most useful skill we get. But we also get skills to help us with hunting (I love seeing creature specials when I hunt). We should be masters of the hunt from that line, not just trackers. Admittedly, I'm looking a bit more at a revamped Ranger than our current skill set but it does still hold for what we get. That line is not only useful for the tracking, like the name suggests.

Well, I guess different people like different stuff. I just think that Tracker is a bit too limited a title. By accepting a change to Tracker, we accept that the line is mostly complete (just /track to be added). By fighting for Hunt Master, the line needs to be beefed up a bit more. I guess it's mostly an idealogical thing for me.

I would say that Hunt Master should replace Master Ranger (at least in meaning) and should be the goal of the profession and not just one line.

I think it's partially because a lot of the old Rangers miss the Hunt Master title. Tracker was something that was wanted by BHs and such. Most of the Rangers wanted to keep the Hunt Master title. I personally don't wear my tracker tag because of this. I will occasionally switch over to Frontiersman, Wayfarer, or Trap Master from Master Ranger but I don't put up the Tracker title. I don't have anything against people that do but I get annoyed by that title when I do see (not the player--the title).

Currently I am 4/2/4/3 on the Ranger tree. I use my Novice Ranger tag but when I become a Master Ranger, Master Ranger will become my permanent tag.

Oh BTW if you are ranger with a tracker tag up. We call you a One line wonder. And i have No quams saying this to them when i see them.

i'm kind of upset about this.

some of us have other things we're spending skill points on, that are stopping us from mastering Ranger. but just because i'm only a 1-0-4-0 Ranger with the Tracker Tag up, that doesn't make me any less of a Ranger than others. I still hold true to the Ranger mentality, it's just that i'm a leader of our guild, and I decided to take it upon myself to start up our guild city, so i've got a lot of skill points dumped into Politician, which is stopping me from mastering Ranger.

and as for the Tracker tag, personally, Tracker or Hunter (a scout title) is the perfect profession title for me, as that is exactly what I do for a living in the game. I hunt creatures, and I track creatures down so that I can hunt them. The tracking tree isn't just useful for Jedi trials, it is, in my opinion, the single most valuable tool we, as Rangers, have at our disposal when creature hunting. When I go hunting for a certain resource, i'll start in a city/outpost, and set a waypoing in the middle of nowhere far from the starting location, i'll then walk on foot to that spot, tracking the whole time, and killing what i need ot kill. then i'll do the same thing to return to the outpost, or to a new waypoint.

Calling us Trackers less of a Ranger than you is just wrong. The Ranger community is one of the best groups of people in the game. We all have a great deal of respect and comradery between each other. Anytime i see anyone with ANY Ranger title (not just Master Ranger) I always try to take it upon myself to introduce myself, and to try and build friendships or at least business relationships with them.

and as someone says in their signature, Ranger isn't a profession, it's a lifestyle.
