Chra thats a really interesting way of doing things, not sure I would get many takers on my server though, the last /tell i got for training could not be bothered with the 2k walk/drive to where I was camping and went to an NPC instead!

This is really cool. Great idea. I hear so many people on server forums say how board they are with the game. Wouldn't be great if all professions set up something like this to challenge those people!

Okay ... here's an idea:

1) One of the things I love about Ranger is exploration. I walk the planets and have come across so many interesting things. I even started a list before I moved a couple of months ago with waypoints to the things I found that were interesting and were not part of POI and without waypoints located somewhere ... my favorite is the piece of the DeathStar generator walkway that Obi Won deactivated in the movie on Yavin IV (this one I have in my data pad) - another is the "guiser" on Naboo that you can actually get your character inside like a hot tub! ... I will find my list and send it to you in a PM (if I post it here people would be able to see the waypoints and thus defeat the purpose. Would be interesting to have those completing the trials by finding some or all of these interesting items.

2) Have them go fishing ina dangerous spot on Endor and have to bring back X amount of fillet fish ... and/or ... have them bring back 1 of each type of fish that can be be found (I have my own collection of fish and even wrote down the date, type and location of each! - lol). This would test their skills in fishing, survival and foraging (bait must be foraged of course). If you chose the 1 of each type, you could make it even more interesting by designating exactly where they are suppose to fish (picking of course the most dangerous parts of the planets). And, you could have them give you X amount of each type of bait (again testing their foraging skills).

3) Have them forage a list of medical items (each from a different planet of course ... and to make it harder, specify a location in which to harvest the items that is particulary dangerous) ... Hmmmn ... thought just came to me ... is this part of scout/ranger or medic? lol - I have First Aide IV so I can't remember! lol

4) Have them gather X amount of Samples from each of the Sarlaac pits. Be interesting to see how long it takes them to figure out just how you can get a quantity of them.

5) Have them locate the 3 Oasis' on Tatooine (I have the waypoints to all 3). This might be tricky cause there might already be waypoints listed on the forums. One way to get around this would be to not tell them ahead of time ... have them meet you on Tatooine and announce you have to find all 3 Oasis within X amount of time ... on foot or perhaps have them find the hardest one to find instead of all 3.

6) Have them track the rarest or hardest (highest challenge) creature from each of the planets. Although this could take them quite a bit of time to do. (this one probably was already suggested)

Any more suggestions will require a bit more thought, but I will get back to you if I think of anything.

Very cool. Keep 'em comming.

The exploration of locations on the various planets is good. It is even better if it isn't on any available documentation. Please feel free to send me the PM.

I still need to test the trials, and that of course takes some time, but I am looking forward to trying them. After all, what kind of Master Ranger would I be if I couldn't do the challenges myself?

The funny part of the scout trials was the last time I trained a scout up to Master Scout, we took on a mentor/student relationship. By the time the trial was held, everything in there was easy, just time consuming.

I like the 5 K walk idea. That is very cool. A different dimention on things.

Being that I support the mentoring and training of others beyond just the skill trees, do you think it would be too outlandish to request that a Master Ranger candidate attend the trials with a Scout or Ranger student?

I was doing the Keren City run yesterday (144 on a speederbike for those that are curious. Still needs some work). What about a foot race between the Trainer and the Candidate? If the Candidate wins ... he passes. Since the race tracks are there and all.

I just realized I don't know how to send a cross-server email/pm .... anyone know how?

send it to my in box here on the forums if you like. Otherwise just give me descriptions and I will go find them myself *g*

Haven't been on vacation in a while. It might be fun to go hunting for them myself. My next candidate isn't due for his trial in a while if he isn't grinding.

Cross server tells/gmails/freinds list entries follos the following format:

servername.characterfirstname

  • to send me a tell you would type /t wanderhome.calculus,

  • to send me a gmail you would send it to wanderhome.calculus (I am not sure if I have ever done this, so I might be making this up!),

  • and to add me to your friends list you would put wanderhome.calculus in the name field, but only the calculus part shows up in the list (this causes difficulties if you know someone who has characters with the same name on 2+ different severs.

This is a good idea too - but maybe consider the tat. race track -- well, that would be more time consuming, but there are a lot more obstacles and your knowledge of the terrain will make a big difference....

Great thread!

Ran the Mos Espa run last night. 1472 for on foot, no armor. I t took me three tries *g*. Got killed once and incapped once. Wasn't really putting in much of an effort though.

So that one is definatley in. I still need to run the swamp run and see what kind of challenge that would be. But the Mos Espa run is certainly excellent for the purposes of testing one's ability to get around and all purpose scouting technique.

New Ranger Challenge for Master Ranger: Mos Espa race course in under 1500 (time to be modified if I get my own time down a little lower) on foot. Armorless. Weaponless (this isn't a test of combat abilities after all, damn you all TKMs.). Any Ranger/Scout skills necessary to get the job done.

((P.S. got my Keren speedebike run down to 140. I need a new vehicle))

Might I recommend supplying them with a CDEF weapon at the start (or maybe a knife or something)? That way you don't have to worry about the TKMs. Just give them a weapon they don't have any skills in and make sure they keep it equipped.

Or a walking stick (renamed wooden staff), if they happen to be a fencer.

Okay, so I am working on the revamped tracking challenges.

Idea 1: Find the trainer on a planet. The candidate has half an hour. At 10 minutes a clue will be given containing a planet region name and relative direction to it (eg. North of the Yawari Cliffs). At the 20 minute mark, a second clue will be given containing a location or region name. At 25 minutes, reference to a specific location will be given. Eachof the clues will refine the search area. The tester will be searchable and will not necessarily be in a static location during the first 20 minutes of the test. The clues will always apply to the current and end location of the tester.

Idea 2: Stalk a target. The candidate will be required to stalk the Trainer for an unspecified period of time. At no time is the candidate to show up on the trainer's raidar untill called in. When the Trainer calls in the candidate, the Candidate has 1 minute to arrive at the Tester's location. The tester will accomodate the candidates chosen means of transportation. Note: The Tester will be attempting to make the Candidate fail by either making him show up on the radar or loosing him. Just following isn't enough. It's a version of Ranger tag I have played a number of times. It can be fun and is rather difficult on speederbikes.

Ideas for improvement? Comments? Ideas?
