I would suggest you look at the fs forum, there is a great guide in there about what is required for the quests. I think you need different professions to do most of them. I haven't looked in a long time, but you may need some doc. skills and maybe some crafting skill, just to complete the quest....once its unlocked then fine....but make sure thats what ya wanna do.

Oh I have read the FS forums, but thanks for the suggestion. I have read them a lot trying to reconcile what I would *like* to play with what I need to play to complete the FS quests and skills. Before pursuing the "Way of the Alt", I was a Master Weaponsmith and quite happy and successful in that role, but I wanted an alt to go explore with. As an altaholic of serious calibre, not having an alt character was driving me nuts. So I dropped MWS and began leveling up to get the right CL to do the village quests and attendant grind.

I know roughly which way I am going now, I just have to decide which is quicker: Getting to Master CH or Master Ranger. If its the former then I will go MCH/BH0444/Ranger0040 and be CL78, if its the later then I will go MBH/MRanger/CH0300 and be CL80. Currently I am BH0012/MScout/NoviceCM/Ranger0010/Merchant3000. In either case I will end up in one of the specs I mentioned above, or return to Weaponsmithing and make my Alt the Ranger/CH/Doctor type. My problem is I would really like to be a MCH/MDoctor/MRanger/MRifleman/MBH/MWS/MMerchant but they just wont give me the points...

My point was simply that Ranger seems alone in the fact that you can't get your FS skills completed and retain CL80 if you stay a Ranger. This seems like its an oversight on the dev's part because Ranger is the only profession I can see that requires a Master in a lower level profession as a prerequisite.
