at first i hated the changes and just quit using maskscent. last night i used it to get a pet and here's what i realized after doing so....

the devs left maskscent completely broken for quite a while and everyone was used to always having it on and never being detected by anything. it doesn't seem to me that the devs thought of maskscent as an always on never get detected skill, but rather something you use when you need it.

for instance, last night i went to tame some graul maulers. before the recent changes all i had to do was put on maskscent, walk up to the baby and tame it, no worries at all and actually really boring after a while so i quit taming/selling them.

my experience last night was one of excitement and anticipation! there's a nest of 4 graul maulers and one frezied graul. i realize to get the one baby in the nest i need to successfully maskscent every single one. so i stand about 70m back, throw on maskscent and go prone, and slowly crawl my way in to the baby, stopping each time i see a message go up with my finger on the stand and run trigger making sure it's not me being detected. then when i wasn't detected, as i never was the 6 times i did this, i has the complete thrill of lying prone amongst killers trying to tame a baby. if the baby fails, i probably get attacked.

then, to prove to me that being prone really mattered, the following happened. after i tamed the first baby i was done so i stood up and started walking away. but on my way out i was detected! DUH! i thought to myself. i should crawled away!

so, in this situation, a perfect example of where maskscent can really be utilized, it never failed me. but if i try to have it always on it fails all the time, and this just made me realize that i don't need to always have it on.
