Has anyone else noticed a severe drop in the effectiveness of Ranger /maskscent, especially at the master level? I have, infact i got detected 4 times within a minute today, which is absurd even for a scout.

Chef,

Maskscent is now primarily a Scout skill. Your Ranger status doesn't have anything to do with Maskscent's effectiveness anymore. You are maxed out in Maskscent modifier at Master Scout.

The Ranger equivalent is /conceal. It needs some work, but eventually it will be the "uber" maskscent.

Well, Delta, are you saying that /maskscent is not dependent on camouflage skill?

I stopped using /conceal within the first week it was implemented, because of how fastI burn through resources, faster then I can gather.

I now stopped using /maskscent since last weekend, because how fast it breaks, with the added "benefit" of having an aggro mob warping on top of me from 80m to 120m away, chasing me through the country side.

I only use /maskscent when in prone and approaching a lair. In those cases it works very well, it breaks ocasionally by mad parents, most of the times it is the babies who break it. (In those case, that is how it should be)

I am a Bothan Master Ranger with a camo skill of 115. I have seenzero indication that my camo skill or mastery in either Scout or Ranger has any impact on the actual ability. The only impact I have seen is posture, a random generator based on that, and range from target!

Etzel,

That's exactly what I'm saying. Camo modifier is now used for /conceal.

Maskscent uses its own "Maskscent" modifier, and is capped out at Master Scout.

Delta, you can't be serious..why do we still get a bonus to camoflage in the ranger three then?

If what you imply is true, my whole concept of how the mods are affecting abilities is out of whack. If the camoflage mod increases mask scent success factor in the scout tree, why wouldn't it in the ranger tree? Or is skill mods and abilities totally separated, in which case why does the skillmods even exist?

"Or is skill mods and abilities totally separated, in which case why does the skillmods even exist?"

- The skill mods and commands areseparate in so far as:

  • mask scent skill mod affects your ability to do /maskscent command

  • camoflauge skill mod affects your ability to do /conceal command

- The reason skill mods exist, is that you don't start with the full skill in /maskscent.

- Each level gives you moreskillin using/maskscent (in the case of the scout skill set), or /conceal (in the case of the ranger skill set).

- A Ranger is no better at /maskscent than a Master Scout, as the camoflauge is not supposed to affect the /maskscent skill at all.

- There should be no bonus for camofluage in the Scoutskill set (though I haven't actually checked lately to see), and there is no bonus for mask scent in the Ranger skill set.

NRass,

Thanks for clarifying this. I thought I WAS being clear, but apparently not.

I can get an experience like this. But I canalsoget 10 that have conceal break while crawling and not break while running.

I've made a chat log of my hunts for about 2 days and I'm goint to tabulate hits and misses and see what the real percentages are when I get home. This may take a while tho and I have some hunting to do tonight with friends so it may be till the weekend before I can post what I'm seeing.

Fred,

You and me need to go get some beers and quit obsessing.

Luckily for me, with my computer having crapped out, I have an excuse.

You are correct in that the intended effect is that camouflage does not affect maskscent.

I hold that something about camouflage is still present in the maskscent check and that is why Scouts and Master Scouts can prance around rancors while a krettle will break maskscent for any ranger at Wayfaring II and higher.

The check still exists (in some fashion, and to our detriment) when it shouldn't.

On a positive note, conceal was working very well for me last night. If maskscent even worked a significant fraction as well as this was, I would be happy with it.

Thanks, Delta. Understand now

So, Delta, and NRass: I am beginning to suspect something from reading other profession boards, especailly concerning slicing and weapon mastery: Do skills cap out at 100? Any modifier, such as Bothat inate modifier, above that mute?

Also, another thought: AMaster Ranger has 100 camo and 100 maskscent. Itappears bothhave the same rate of breaking, and the only difference really is that conceal works also against NPC, has a resource cost, can be applied to others, and you gain less scouting xp when using it.So, unless the ranger is navigating through a swamp of hostile NPC camps (Pubams for example) aren't Rangers better offjust using /maskscent?

"Do skills cap out at 100?"

- Goodness I hope not...

  • My Unarmed Damage is 160

  • My Unarmed Accuracy is 150

  • My Creature Harvesting is 110

- If they are only being utilized at a 100 value, I would be a might disappointed.

- Of course, it is possible...

- I do know that my Damageskill moddoes affect my regular damage.

-I am doing more damage than I did at 145.

- So not all skills have this suspected cap. Perhaps only certain ones?

All skills do cap at 100.

This can be seen by those who take pistoleer and BH pistol lines, effectiveness of gainingover 100 is not seen.

Some is clearly very wrong with Mask Scent. Things over 100 meters from you shouldn't even get a check, nothing is going to attack you from that distance even without maskscent up. In fact most creatures won't aggro you at all unless your within 40 meters, even then its not a guarantee you are getting attacked. Turning on maskscent has become an aggro timer for me. I might slip fast 5 or 6 creatures undected, but number seven is going to get me, or maybe number 9 or number 3 doesn't really matter when it gets broke changes are I'm getting attacked. Typically the mob will warp to me from over 100 meters away, then since mask scent is broken those same creatures I've allready past checks against will aggro me if I'm close to them. I'd doesn't have anything to do with going over Wayfaring 2, because I don't have any of the wayfaring line.
